In a distant land, isolated on a chain of beautiful islands called Caork Isles is a species that calls themselves The Ahioko. These are a canine like species, which walks upright like us humans. In fact, they're almost exactly like humans aside their appearance and one little exception: there is no physical distinction between females and males. At birth an Ahioko is gender-less, being called "they, them" by their parents tell they're old enough to decide what gender they'd like to be. Some chose to stay gender-less, but others will chose whatever pronoun they like to describe themselves.
Ahioko's are a very intelligent and powerful species, though despite their strength they rarely use force for anything unless absolutely necessary.

Adalia
Female

Adalia has always had the spirit of a warrior. She is fiercely protective of the ones she holds dear, and is willing to sacrifice herself for the safety of the unmarked. Outwardly she acts tough, brave, and as if nothing can hurt her, but that is far from true. Adalia is a little more fragile than she lets on, and is not quite as fearless as everyone else believes. She is very competitive, as well as driven to be the best warrior she can possibly be. Her three biggest inspirations come from nature in the forms of the tiger, the cheetah, and the leopard. She wishes to be more like them in both combat, as well as her day to day life. She paints the stripes of the tiger on herself to represent the power and strength she wishes to have physically and spiritually to carry with her in both combat and training, the spots of the cheetah to represent the speed of which she wants to run and strike with, and the dapples of the leopard, of which she wishes to have the grace of, so she can move with grace and effectiveness both within and without battle. When fire is blue, it burns within its hottest form, and burns bright, which represents the flame of life for Adalia, so the fire of life courses through her hair and ignites the markings she had dyed on her fur eternally.

Unlike most ahiokos, Adalia actually does carry a weapon. The biggest reason for this is because as she was training to be a warrior, her people were attacked. Adalia did the best she could to protect her people, but found that she was unable to do what she had dedicated her life to. An ahioko she was close to died during the attack, and she blames herself to this day. As a result, she crafted a spear and swore that she would only use it if absolutely necessary, and that no one would perish under her watch again. The art shows her finishing the spear, poking at it to make sure that she had sharpened it enough. She also has crafted a little stone dagger that she sometimes wears on her left hip, but she prefers her spear to any other weapon.
Traits:
- Long ears
- Edited tail & hair (long)

Ahioko name: Tenner
Pronoun preference: Male
Why do they add that dye to their fur?: the markings represent one of a fierce nature. showing that he is the warrior. almost like their tribal war paint markings, to show he's ready for combat. [wip, dont steal this idea]

Ahioko name: His name is Reminisce, though he sometimes goes by Remi.
Pronoun preference: Male
Why do they add that dye to their fur?: Each marking is an important memory. Anytime that something happens that he doesn't want to forget, he adds another piece of dye to his fur as a reminder. These pieces of dyed fur are very restricted though, only the most important memories are added to his pelt. Never forget, never forgive, but never return.

Why do they add that dye to their fur?:
As a young pup Zaff had a yearning to help those who needed her assistance, she detested suffering especially of pain and the anguish it causes. Her whole life centered around learning the ways of a medic staying true to herbs and various potions which could heal the body. In fact everything she idolized, or ever wanted to become stemmed from her love of helping others in the only way she deemed worthy. Birds of a feather flock together, right?
Yet her sub-conscious heart was not into the task. She itched for action.
And her very being crashed around her the day she learned her abilities where not suited, not needed by the healers.
She'd spent her entire childhood dreaming of helping her people, to feel the power of saving another. And that was the day she picked up a weapon, the very same thing she had hated for causing misery suddenly felt right in her hand. Zaff's identity transformed, she no longer felt right in the pelt she'd been given by genetics, in fact by a quirk of nature her plain black coat was a canvas to paint. And so she did indeed "paint" her fur, forging a new persona out of the broken dreams she'd left behind.
To help her kin she'd take arms, a deft skill of her's she'd shunned for all those years.
Her people are now the warriors dedicated to helping the no-marks.
While her journey of self growth is not the most extraordinary she has carved her own path to her destiny.
Birds of a feather certainly do flock together, even if it takes them a while to realize it.
A side note:
I imagine this girl not quite breaking away from her medic roots and practicing with herbs from time to time, while still feeling a sense of belonging with the healers. Which is why she wears black feathers around her neck that she's also dyed as a double meaning.
A bird can change the colour of their feathers but remain connected to their previous calling.

Sugi, however changed to Lash. Lash? Because she is an amazing warrior strong and quick, Lash is kind of short for Whiplash. She didn't want to be called that so chose to keep it short and simple.

Female due to the lack of females in her family, another way to be 'different'. She also likes the way she sounds more than he. S's sound better than H's to her.

Because Sugi was a normal Ahioko. She wanted to be different, not just plain with a different mane and tail. She was about a teen when she did it. She changed her name to Lash. Lash. Not boring old Sugi, but Lash. She started with her legs, and did it. Her mother and father were astonished and angry. They yelled at her, she yelled back,''I want to be my own person! If you don't understand that then you don't love me!'' after that she ran off. She dyed herself completely and regretted it, she didn't have a mark now. She was just plain blue now. She presented herself to her parents and they told her to get out. She did so still defiant. Her parents died a few days later in a fire. A fire in witch she was busy trying to dye herself more during. She regretted her decision and tried to get the dye off, she couldn't get all of it off however. She believes its her mother and father's way of not being alive but, still telling her not to do anything drastic ever again.

Why do they add that dye to their fur?:
In an act of rebellion against her parents. She never had a very close relationship with them, and at one point went through a phase where she completely hated them. Her parents both agreed that dying your fur is extremely vain and self-centered, so in an act of defiance she painted herself. She is now past that, and she gets along with her family. However, she continues to wear the dye to remind herself that she will never play by anyone else's rules.
