JMD #203~ Winner! Meet Rynn~

Postby azemyc » Thu Jun 27, 2013 5:51 am

due to both my own personal going-ons right now and a few other users', I've decided to extend the duration of the contest till Monday @ 1 PM 5 PM EST. I will not extend it beyond that, unfortunately.

What is a Jewel Mane Dragon?;;
A Jewel Mane Dragon is a large creature with jewels on their foreheads and tails. They eat mostly small mammals such as birds, squirrels, and rabbits. The fur on their back, hind, and front legs feel like the softest of silk and is pretty short. The fur around their neck (Also know as their mane) and tail is very soft, fluffy, and long. Jewel mane Dragons mostly keep to themselves but when they find someone they like the grow very attached, loyal, and talkative. They're all slightly bigger than a mustang but some grow to be as large as a elephant. All Jewel Mane Dragons have jewels at the end of their tail and on their forehead, there's really no exception to that rule. The jewel on their tail is used as a weapon in combat and hunting, while the jewel on their forehead is used during mating season to attract females.

-------------------------------------------------------------

This Jewelie can be either gender, and has a black jewel, meaning they have the power of destruction and strength.

Now, to win him/her, I've decided that this will be a short writing contest. What do you have to write about? Simple, tell me about the necklace/amulet that they wear, and what it signifies to them. You may include how they got it, why it glows, and why it seems to be a moon. Of course, you're more than welcome to develop more upon these ideas, and be creative!

-------------------------------------------------------------

Extras that are allowed;
You may include one piece of art*. Prettying up your form is okay as well~
{If you would rather include a poem that gives the details of the necklace other than a story, that's fine.}
*Art must be made by YOU. Thought is what counts here, not how it looks.

Extras that are NOT allowed;
Likes, dislikes, relationships, ect. Anything that doesn't pertain to the story of the necklace will get you disqualified. This is meant to be a quick contest, not something to worry about getting friends, enemies, ect. Just be creative!~

-------------------------------------------------------------
This will end Friday, at 5 PM EST. I will announce the winner as soon as possible after that.
Keep stories under 1,000 words, please or five-seven paragraphs.
They may be male/female. Please mention which one it will in your story~

This reminds me oddly of Misaka's shattered-glass necklace, and the story as well O.o

Oh yeeeaaahhh, finally finished Cx The story is 1,200 words, though...just thought you should know. Please don't let it discourage you! omo

The night was dark, and the air carried a brisk chill with it- a promise of a massive, swirling tempest soon to come, a storm that would break apart the velvety night sky.
The young Jewel Maned Dragon peered warily out of his warren. Shouldn't be long now, he thought to himself. The moon was rising. And he was going to take it.
The best part was, it was the supermoon. It happened so rarely- almost 20 years passed in between each one. He would be far too old for this type of power by the time the next one rolled around. He couldn't afford to miss it.
Kutunxi squinted up at the sky, head already beginning to loll and eyelids beginning to close. How much longer? he thought drowsily.
2 more hours passed, while Kutunxi waited impatiently. He began to fall asleep at one point, but a sharp chill cut through the soft, warm air, bolting him wide awake. And then, he realized, eyes widening, the moon was at its highest point. It was full. It was bright. Now was the time.
He brought forth the massive river pearl, strung on a black necklace. He had spent nearly 5 years searching for that pearl- so massive, so white. And it was worth it.
He held it up to the moon and settled his tail around his feet to watch it. He kept it balanced firmly in his talons for a long moment, then released his grasp. The pearl fell gently to the ground without a sound- even though sand sifted lightly around it.
It began to glow, and fiercely. Glowing as bright as the moon, reflecting its power. Kutunxi waited. And waited. Until the jewel seemed about to crack with its power; for when that moment came....
He realized he had missed the height of the glowing pearl, so he hurriedly began to chant to attempt and catch up with the receding shine. "Perl , žemčuh , žamčužnaha sviatliennia jarki , padzialiciesia sa mnoj tvaja mahutnaja moc..." The ancient incantation, full of power and mysterious words. Once or twice his tongue tripped over the words and a sprinkling of saliva shot out. But for the most part, he got the pronunciation correctly.
The pearl began to glow again, even though the moon was sliding down. It was no longer a pearl. It was greyer, silvery, and had darker splotches all over it. Almost exactly, the river pearl reflected the moon.
Kutunxi had captured the moon.

The sun and moon perfectly balanced the next evening- each still high in the sky, the sun stubbornly refusing to set, keeping the moon from rising. Kutunxi balanced the moon amulet again on his palm, waiting. A dim golden light suffused the pearl, making it look like the moon with a sun's aura radiating from it. And still Kutunxi waited. He was a patient jewel. Despite his powers, he could wait.
2 hours passed. The moon reigned again. The night after the supermoon was here, and the moon was still tainted with orange from the previous night. Kutunxi couldn't resist a glance down at his own mini-moon. I knew to bring it out here tonight, he reflected. But what will happen?
He noticed that the pearl's glow was beginning to match the moon again. And then it shot up, a bright, brilliant glow like a beacon streaming away from the orb. It was blaring, blindingly bright, and Kutunxi rolled to the ground in pain, slapping his paws over his eyes and curling up in a ball until the light receded.
He peered back over at the orb. What he saw nearly broke him...
The moon orb had broken as well.
No. He resisted the wild feeling of anger and misery rising up inside of him. No. No, no no. Nononononononoooo...
This is a bad dream,
he tried to convince himself, and promptly jabbed himself with his dark, shimmery tail jewel. But it only gleamed his face back at him- he didn't wake up.
Come on... he tried again. But it still wasn't working. Worse, he had opened a scratch on his side.
Finally, Kutunxi realized he had to accept his fate. It was just too much power. The orb couldn't possibly hold all that moonlight. It was too much. Too much. My pearl amulet is broken.
He shivered, wanting to kill himself over his fate. He curled up in a ball, and waited for morning.

Three nights, a voice whispered in his ear. Three nights.
Go away, he thought in reply, irritably pawing at his ear. What do you mean, three nights?
But no one answered him. Perhaps it was just as well, for it was not long before he realized it for himself.
Three nights after the supermoon...
Tonight would be that night.

Kutunxi stood out, unwilling, but not relenting either. He clutched at the broken orb furiously, the clean hole shattered in its side gaping like an ugly wound. He wasn't about to let go, that was for sure.
Without him willing it, as the moon rose, his hand dropped open, and the pearl rolled out into the moonlight. One clear shaft broke through, illuminating the hole.
No, Kutunxi thought in rage. Don't just show me the problem. Tell me what I can do to fix it!
Without him willing, the jewel on his forehead began to glow. As he stared at the moon amulet, he felt broken and helpless all over again. No... he thought with frailty. Why did this have to happen? Was it me? Did I speak the incantation wrong? Did I leave it out in the moonlight too long?
He couldn't wrap his mind around it. The moon was dead.
His jewel began to smoke, and he panicked for a second- before he realized it was just dark magic. His jewel, one of destruction and strength, could not do much in the way of healing- but his grandparents were purple, black and yellow jewels, and his parents black and brown. He came from mixed cultures. He was unique.
The dark matter suddenly shot into the sky, swallowing up the stars. Then it barreled down, pure shadow and blackness beaming into the broken pearl.
It went completely black and dissolved into the night.
Kutunxi swallowed hard, waiting.
And then it reappeared.

The pearl amulet was empty. The moon's power was not coming back. The orb was dead- the moon had left it. But it still shone, with a bright, healthy newness. It looked as it had when Kutunxi had first fetched it form the river.
And the, Kutunxi realized, that was exactly what had happened.
The pearl was refreshed in time, he thought disbelievingly. Somehow, it was sent back and renewed. And now it has returned. No longer harnessing the power of the moon. It never did.
He stared at it in utter confusion, but somehow clarity managed to pierce true through him. He knew, without knowing how he knew. And yet he did.
And while the pearl was an empty, gleaming husk, a white nothingness, it didn't feel the same. It had tiny dents all over it.
Craters, like the craters of a moon.

Many, many seasons later, time had worn down the pearl so it almost resembled the moon again. Kutunxi didn't mind. He still wore it on that black-as-night necklace. He knew it would never be the same, not as it once had been. Not as it had been for the one night, the time when he could harness the world.
But somehow, it didn't matter to Kutunxi. It was still the same.

No...no...the moon. The moon, I once held the moon in my own paws. No more. No more. The moon is broken, the moon is dead.
I tried. I tried so hard to save it. Nothing could help it. Nothing could prevent. I tried, I tried, I tried so hard. But it was never meant to be.
I reached out to touch it, my paw hesitating over the broken orb. It glowed no more, proof of its emptiness. I paused, a tear welling up in my eye and trickling down my cheek. It was no use. The reign of the moon was over. It had emptied itself, all of its energy gone.
    The moon was dead.
My jewel began to tingle, then glowed blackly. A black swirl of magic spiraled up, a demonic mist of strength, and shot towards the moon amulet. Vengeance, hate, seized me, and it was now rage that flowed in my veins.
The moon was healed. Completely barren. It was an empty pearl now. It glowed, it still shone, but no longer held the moon's power in it. The pearl moon was undead.
    And I, Kutunxi, its master.

agh i've come down with the flu and i can't enter due to it.
sorry to take up space.
[for what it's worth, his character was going to be based slightly around joffrey lannister. he was going to be a power hungry brat and the necklace was to be a temporary moon until he made the real moon bow to him. oh well.]

Bliss
*****
The sound of footfalls awoke a young couple from their sleep, moonlight shimmering in from the opening in their den. The male sprung to his feet his purple jewel glowing, giving the cavern a spooky iridescent glow. He padded in front of his mate, a small dainty pink jeweled JMD.
A breathy laugh jumped from the darkness seeming to surround everything, muffling all other sounds. A single black paw stepped into the beam of moonlight and retreated instantly, a slight wince interrupting the disturbing laughter.
"Who is there?" The purple jeweled male growled, his cream like pelt shining as he stepped into the beam of hope in the form of moonlight. "Light your gem that I may see you."
The laugh was replaced by a cackle,"Even if I light my gem it would do you no good to see me, for it is blacker then the night that now holds you, darker then the moon is white. But, since you asked so nicely..."

-5 years later-

Tears traced their paths down the corners of his eyes, staring at the moon on top of his den where his mate was last alive
He growled at the darkness, and slashed at the shadows
He glared at the moon as if it was it's fault, that the twisted JMD had stopped his wife's heart
Five years it had been since the deed was done, and still the pain wrenched his heart
He ran towards the edge, towards a large cliff, but tripped on a pebble like no one ever'd seen
The pebble glowed like the sun, but glistened like the moon
He gripped it in his paw, as a single crystalline tear dripped of his muzzle and nestled on the pebble like a crown
The evil of his past, seemed to fall away.

A BIG FAT WIP... avert thine eyes from thy hideousness.

.: Berserk :.
My name is Saix, and Im a male.Im a berserker under the moonlight. What? My necklace?Oh,let me explain.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Long ago, when Saix was born, his parents gave him a necklace. It absorbed power from the moon.Saix thought of it as a gift from the stars. After his parents died,he used the power of the moon for evil.He distroyed everything in his way, even his closest friends. He destroyed everything thing he loved because the moon told him to.One day,a man asked him if wanted to be imortal. This was not what Saix wanted.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Child,I feel great power within you." Said the man.I,Saix, looked at him. "So?All I do with it is kill and destroy. Why are you so interested in it?" The man smiled. "With your power, all the worlds will seice to exist.Your power is so great, and so is your weapon." I looked down at my claymore. "My power comes from my necklace and the moon.Maybe you want a deminstration?Moon shine down!" I felt the power of the moon corse through my veins.I went berserk.I attacked that man, using my necklace to drain every ounce of power from the moon. All he did was stand there with a smile on his face. "Tell me,young one,do you want to be imortal?" I stared at him. "What do you mean by 'imortal'?!" He smiled more. "Do you want to live forever?"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saix said yes.The power of his necklace grew stronger and stronger. Now,Saix has no control over being berserk.Whenever he is mad or upset, the necklace makes him hurt the things and people he loves. The necklace always glows, and it glows even brighter under the light of a full moon. This, sadly, has driven Saix mad. What was once a kind JMD,has now become a monster of sorts. This is what his parents intended. The necklace was always passed down from father to son,a whole line of berserkers just like Saix.Saix will never be normal until he has a son of his own. With the necklace also comes a great power.Saix can always make the moon shine down.Even at mid-day,he can make the sun turn into the moon and he can turn the crisp blue sky turn dark. The necklace controls him.He is nothen but a mindless puppet, thanks to the Moonlight Necklace.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Forever isnt long enouth.I cant go on like this.Along this road walks you and me.All together friends of three. This necklace is a curse to me.Why have you all left me?I may be a puppet.I may be a berserker.I cant control my power. Its not my fault, its the necklace!Forever isnt long enouth.Someone break this curse.I will never have a son to pass this on to.Take it back father. The necklace is killing me and all my friends.Im never gonna forgive you for this. This necklace with always hang around my neck thanks to you.I will always be killing and destroying, thanks to you,Father Moonlight. Thanks to you,the necklace wont stop.It will never stop.Nor will I,not till everything fears the Moonlight Necklace!"
Gone.

Eclissato Luna (eclipsed moon) and The Amulet of The Moon

Once upon a time in a land far away there was a small baby dragon named Eclissato Luna, or Eclipsed Moon. Nobody knew why that was her name, was it the fact that she was born on the night of a lunar eclipse? Or had she done something to earn the name? Either way that was her name. She had very little friends growing up, all were afraid of her dark gem since both her parents and most children and adults in her forest had light gems. She didn't know why it was that big of a deal, she didn't know what a black gem meant, how was she to know when nobody wanted close enough to tell her. The only other dragon with a black gem was considered a witch by these dragons, however Eclissato still sought her out. Upon finding the small cottage where the witch lived she asked one question 'how will I get my friends to accept me?" The witch gave one answer in a mysterious voice that had a dark ring to it "Over the hills, under the moon, during eclipse, in a snow covered land, the eclipsed one will find the amulet." Then all was silent, save for the chirping of birds in the trees, who's carefree tune hinted at nothing ever having happened that day.

5 Years Later

The dragon leaped over the branch with ease run, run, RUN!!!! the only thought that her brain possessed gotta run faster! The mountain lion had almost caught up to her and the only thing keeping her hopeful of escape was the ledge near by, it dropped into nothingness and would allow her to take off and fly far far away from the beast. Why was she here? Where were her friends? What was unknown to most but she knew perfectly well. She was here to find the amulet, revealed to her 5 years ago. For 5 years she hunted for it, searched for it, and failed, but now she knew. She knew where it was, it was obvious, how did she ever miss it? It was on Mount Nothing, named after the darkest of dragons, who's dark gem was as onyx as pure darkness and looking into it you had the feeling of being lost and despair, as if you were trapped, in the dark, never ending, abyssal of space. He was so feared that even after his death none dared speak of his name, as if even uttering a syllable of it would promise his return. Decades passed, then centuries, then millenniums, and his name was long forgotten. Despite how hated he was his legend lived on, and although her town banned the full telling of the story while she was young she heard simplified stories, none of which could help her now however a travailing story teller told her all she needed to know. Although it was similar to her one sentence she had never before heard "and upon the most dreaded peak, lay the amulet of the feared one." The most dreaded peak was Mount Nothing and she knew deep in her heart that the object of her desire lay there. As for her friends, she had none. She reached the ledge and leaped a split second before the lion was going to catch her and rip her to shreds. Mount Nothing was near, she could feel the eternal coldness that draped the area like a long flowing cloak. Her paws were hard and rough, having grown hard during the 5 years of travel and her wings, although soreness hunted them for the past 5 years had grown strong and well muscled. Most of all, despite her still small size due to the malnutrition she suffered during the 1st year learning to hunt and forage she was well muscled and lean, one would not recognize her for the small little ball of fur she was 5 years ago. She settled down for the night high in a tree and slept, but not for long, by our time she would of fell asleep at 3am and awoken at 5am, however small the sleep was it was normal for her and she continued on. Days passed of flying, one bush here one there, oh look a tree, that's a change of scenery. Since anything bigger than a bush was growing rarer and rarer until she reached it, Mount Nothing. The peak was up high, and she was tired. Although she failed to show it old injuries haunted her every step, sending waves of pain quite frequently, and she felt dizzy with exhaustion and hunger, but still she went on. For days she climbed, eating what little berries she could find until she was nearly there. Then it happened, nightfall. A thin wail could be heard, and she finding what little strength was left in her ran towards it as steadily it grew louder. It drowned out the thundering wind, drowned out the feeling of pain as thousands of ice cold snowflakes beat at her face, it left her feeling senseless. As if all that had existed was now, as her paws thundered down on the ground with a steady thrumming her mind was empty. Nothing existed. Nothing but the wail. Around midnight she stopped and as she stopped the wailing did to, and so did the wail, and the wind and snow, until hours later the clouds blew out and the moon was revealed, and a lunar eclipse was starting. As the final ray of moonlight died a small amulet appeared on the ground, instinctively putting it on thousands of thoughts fell about her. She was the forgotten dragon, paws racing as she fled, she didn't mean for it to happen. A young dragon was attacked and she killed the attacker, while paralyzing the young dragon. It was an accident. As surely as the sun would rise in the morning she would give anything for it to be reversed, for her to be paralyzed, not the young one. Days passed, weeks passed, months passed and she found herself cornered, upon the very place Eclissato Luna was and cowered in fear. A voice ringed, the voice of the head magister, who lead the hunt for her "You harmed the innocent, and for that you will pay, you have always loved the moon so we will trap you in it. For all of eternity it will be your prison." With that they left and the forgotten dragon was left with sobs and wails as she faded away. Unknown to all as the final tear fell an amulet formed, one to hold memories, one to hold history, one to hold the wrong that was done that day, only to reveal itself on a lunar eclipse. And as the memories faded she was left feeling stronger than before, more powerful than before and as a dark glittering shadow crawled down from the moon she roared with triumph. She was now the forgotten dragon, the forgotten dragon was now her, they were one as long as she wore the necklace, and although this also added on to her loving nature it brought with it hatred, hatred of all who would lock up an innocent soul, hatred of the mages and magisters who's white gems gleam like stars, and most of all hatred of all who had used her as a scratching post in the past years. With that she flew off, faster than before, stronger than before, and with the knowledge of her gem. How to use it for what it was. A weapon of mass strength and destruction.
