Prompt: venus poked her head through the bushes and stared at amorette, the goddess of love herself. the apricot chinchilla seemed more subdued than usual, her arrows, bow and crimson-red threads untouched on the grass beside her. her tail and ears were drooping. amorette seemed...sad.
the pink tortie hated seeing her best friend sad, so she ran over to her side and poked her nose gently. "what's wrong, amorette?" she asked softly. amorette glanced at her once, deep blue eyes meeting her brighter-coloured ones, seeming unsure whether to tell venus the source of her unhappiness. "i...it's just...everyone falls in love with each other. but...what about me? am i destined to be alone, matchmaking cats together and watching them have the one thing i can't? it's lonely."
amorette seemed to choke on her last words. venus smiled at her sadly, then patted her left paw. "if you're lonely, you have your friends! like me." she grinned, bouncing on her paws around the love goddess. then, out of nowhere, she conjured a little sculpture of her best friend laughing, happy and looking the complete opposite of sad. amorette's eyes widened, sparkling in amazement as she marvelled and cood over the miniature carving. "venus!" she cried, using her paw to boop venus's nose.
venus laughed. "i knew that would make you happier. amorette, stop thinking like that! you are loved! you have friends here. you have halcie and cordelia and me!" venus twined her tail around her bestie's, reassuring her. "besides, if you're sick of making cats fall in love, you can always....reverse things." venus giggled. "HEY! that's only for serious cases! no breaking up my lovely couples!" amorette yowled, tackling venus onto the ethereally soft grass.
"no, no, don't worry! i wasn't really suggesting that!" venus laughed nervously, holding her paws up in surrender. "but really, you should take a break though. hang out with me and the others more! pleeeeeease? you're always so SO BUSY."
amorette smiled ruefully. "fine. i guess i could ask to take a break. BUT WHAT IF I GET INTO TROUBLE?" she groaned, tail bushed up in anxiety.
venus pounced on her own tail, chasing it in circles while she talked. "i highly doubt sirius or moira is going to scold you for simply taking a break. it's not like you're neglecting your duties, anyway, because it's not like mortals fall in love that often. OR i could do some matchmaking with the strings and arrows and bow instead! OOOO THAT WOULD BE SO FUN."
amorette glared at venus, cuffing her ear playfully. venus simply grinned innocently back. yes! her cheer amorette up plan had worked. now everything was back to normal, and there were no depressed gods feeling lonely. hooray! venus felt filled with satisfaction and relief.
amorette booped venus's nose. "really, venus, thank you. your advice is certainly going to help me sleep better." she meowed, a warm smile appearing on her features.
venus smiled wholeheartedly back, and immediately pulled her best friend into a hug.
