In honor of another year of thriving and growing together the staff have come together to present our second Staff Litter!!

This is a little thank you to the people in the community that have helped kalons come as far as they have; to all the friends, ships, and memories made. We hope you have as much fun with this litter as we did!

There will be several adopts posted throughout November, and each will be themed after a pre-selected scarf, each designed by a member of staff [including mods] and no two alike! There is no specific days the adopts will be published on, but all of them should be posted by the end of this month.

Thank you again for being a part of the kalon community! We never could have come this far without all of our imaginative and enthusiastic members, and for all of you we are thankful.

Lastly a shout out to turrpentine for the fantastic cover!!

Hi yes, hello hello !! Thank you everyone for being so patient as we got 1,300 judged and now this competition put out !! For this milestone we took in mind "April showers bring May flowers" and thus we have a sunflower for you all!!

For this competition I want you to tell me what in this Kalon's life has brought about a positive change, even if the road traveled wasn't so pleasant. The catch? You have to tell it to me in a poem. This poem can be in any style or verse so long as it is a poem [I will be awarding extra points/heavily bias entries that have at least a noticeable about of rhyming in their poems, though this is not required].

The poem has no word limit and you have an additional 50 words to do with as you please outside of the poem. You are allowed one extra which may be either 1,000 more words or one art piece [may not be a comic or animation].

This competition will be fairly short and shall end on June 10th at 8 PM EST.

watching the earth
my earth
as it gently lets its eyelashes

i see the people
huddle together like flocks of sheep

of dying alone.
but i do not see myself
in these mortals
i only see myself when i look in
a crystal pool of glass
and see my solemn face glare back at me

i do not love anyone.
i put that part of me away,
folded neatly in a drawer

years ago
it was about the time
i was taken in
captured from the streets
like a wild animal that got loose
and locked in a cage
the size of a cardboard box.
and with that cage's walls around me
i put up walls in my mind as well.
i didn't allow my heart
to accept love

or gratitude
which made my cold life
all the more colder

maybe someday i can accept the fact that
being warm is good
but for now, i sit here
quietly watching
the earth
as a spark
lights itself in my heart
maybe one day that spark will grow into a fire
and i can finally

but for now, my past
has blocked that drawer from opening
and not matter how much
i push
and pull
it doesn't budge
so i will leave it alone.
too many memories
of cells and shocks and cuffs
might spill out of that drawer
leaving me
immobilized
in the past instead of
moving
towards the future

i can't imagine my life
before i discovered earth
i barely remember my younger days,
where i was raised without a mother
and with silicone gloves and masks
and my brain wasn't big enough to think of the future
and then my middle days,
where all i thought about was the future,
of freedom from the tests
and the poking
and prodding
and then, when i grew older,
i lost hope.
it slipped out of my grasp,
as if it were a bird that wanted to be free
and i was the cage
i tried to save it,
but i couldn't.
it was too hard for me to imagine
something other than my entire life
which is when i shut myself down
i became docile and willing,
not fighting back any longer
and hope, after seeing this,
grew even farther away from me
because hope
is a struggle
a battle
and if i wasn't trying,
how was i supposed to be hoping?
but the light at the end of a tunnel
was a sunrirs

just a single sunrise, painting the sky
orange and
yellow
and pale blue
streaming through the tiny window of my cage
i saw that, but not really
for my mind was shut down
but when i gazed upon it,
something was turned on
a switch perhaps, or maybe a button
and then
i saw it

I forgot how inconvenient drawing on my laptop with Oekaki is *.* I think I will mainly just stick to my phone when it comes to new drawings xD
the cat was a last minute add because I was bored with the piece, so don't judge the quality of it too much xD I didn't take time to add detail. I am probably going to either redo the cat or just erase it eventually... ;w;

this probably took wayyyy longer than it should have because I was figuring out the Oekaki tools again Dx its been a while.

Also feel free to use this as a computer and/or phone background! I originally wanted it to be for something like that anyway ^^

I think it's pretty decent considering I haven't actually used the oekaki much at all this year and that my usual shading technique isn't actually possible here soooooo I had to make do

heyyy.. I always feel so nervous posting in intermediate--- I'm far from an "experienced artist"~ (if it needs to be moved I understand)-- honestly just found out what alpha lock did like last week?

aNyway, here's a wolf breathing out in the cold air... I tried to use a cool color scheme

I used 2 references which I will put in a little bit, I'm just on mobile rn tho.
