Prompt:The harsh sun bared its rays upon the land as Dandelion limped through the forest. Her chest heaved with every breath, struggling to keep going through the pain. Her back leg dragged behind her, catching onto rocks and roots as she moved, sending fresh waves of pain through her body. The she-cat had journeyed past her home and into the woods, looking for her friend and finding fox traps instead.
Tears pricked in her eyes, and finally, her legs gave out. Dandelion lay on the forest floor as she heard faint steps in the foliage. Through blurry vision, she saw the blurry silhouette of another cat before succumbing to the pain.
"You're quite far from home."
Dandelion's eyes slowly cracked open, vision still slightly blurry. A
stocky, pale she-cat sat before her, herbs clinging to her pelt. “What happened?” she asked groggily as she sat up, wincing as pain flooded her body. Her gaze turned to her leg, wrapped with vines and sticks.
“I found you collapsed with a hurt leg,” the she-cat meowed, eyes focused on the herbs before her. “So I carried you to shelter and patched it up.” Dandelion looked at the pale she-cat, then around at her surroundings. A small cave within the earth, just barely big enough for the two of them.
“Are you one of those wild cats?” the little cat asked as she turned back to the cat in front of her. The pale cat nodded before pushing a leaf in front of Dandelion. A small mound of green sludge sat upon it, smelling sharply of herbs. “Eat this, and I'll tell you about myself.”
The golden she-cat grimaced, looking down at the pile. Reluctantly, Dandelion lapped up the herbs, choking on their sharp taste as she gulped them down. “I am a wild cat,” the stocky she-cat replied as she pushed a pile of wet moss forward. “My name is Sandmouse, I used to be a part of a group of wild cats.”
“Used to?” Dandelion interjected, earning a nod from Sandmouse. “I'm searching for someone, so I left to find him,” the pale she-cat meowed as Dandelion lapped from the moss. “But how come a kitten like you is alone in the forest?”
“I'm not a kitten!” the golden cat huffed before continuing. “I'm looking for someone too, she hasn't visited me in a long time.” Sandmouse nodded as she listened.
“Well, you should head home for now and heal,” the pale she-cat meowed. “You'll risk harming your leg further if you keep on.” Dandelion shook her head, eyes sharp. “I have to see her again, she's my only friend,” the she-cat meowed.
Sandmouse peered into Dandelion's eyes, seeing the determination that sparkled within them. The two shared a silent agreement and settled in their makeshift den for the night. When morning came, the two embarked on their journey, hoping to find their lost connections.
