Prompt:
One as soft and calm as luna’s guiding light,
the other blazing and fierce as Sol's warm embrace.
When the celestial lovers meet so too will the two who best embody them,
and go forth to unite sun and moon as two worlds will become one.
The light of day was growing dim, Many felines surrounded a dirt path traveling. No obvious destination, and many in what appeared to be disbelief as they all stared upward.
“Don’t look at it, it is dangerous. The gods will punish you for doing so.”
The young Bast didn’t think of such things in that way, but curiously stared up with the crowd. Her long luxurious tail swished with great anticipation. It was a gorgeous sight, as it looked like the sun was going to be absorbed. Soon enough though, an adult rushed over and pushed her head down away from the eclipse. Only the shammon was allowed to gaze at such things, and read fortunes from the event.
Bast wasn’t unnerved by this, and simply pulled away with a side-stepping motion. There wasn’t really a reason to stay with all the stuffy adults in such an event. Especially when everyone seemed to be talking and standing around blankly. So the kit bolted over some roots and rocks, maybe getting a bit of mud on her while her caretakers were distracted by the event. Sure they would be mad at her later for such misconduct, but she didn’t care.
In her mind, she was a warrior of the forest, taking down the evil flying attackers of the night. They were nats, but it was fun to try and catch them. Fumbling about in awkward ways, it appeared that she wasn’t alone. Was that another feline? Her age! With that she bolted up into action with great excitement. A new friend she has never seen before. In fact everything seemed different. It was like the world changed as the light dimmed.
With a big grin on her face she greeted the violet one with enthusiasm. “Hello there!” This wasn’t met with the same jovial attitude, but Bast understood that not everyone can wake up on the right side of the leaf pile.
Plenty of time had passed, and the two quickly became friends. Bast told Selene everything on her mind. She was the type to be more of an open book, and loved to tell stories that were completely out of this world. The two also figured out they were not only from different clans, but from different worlds. This excited the orange molly to no end. What an adventure she could have if she could step into Selene’s world any day. Of course it seemed that today was the only one they would see each other.
This broke Bast’s heart. She had so much to tell her new friend, and she was such a good listener as well. With many interesting questions, and such incredible manners. Bast never wanted to go home.
She had to though, and soon enough did.
The day had come. Bast was being pre-dressed for this day. Silks, and many gems lined her fur. She hated them all. It was heavy and uncomfortable. A wedding. This was uncalled for in her book of books. The elders insisted, but they had only met once before. Yeah, they were close friends in under a couple of hours but that was no reason to force them together.
It was that blasted Shamans Idea. Insisted that the world required the wedding for it was foretold by the prophecy. Bast didn’t see it that way. Nonetheless the eclipse that designated her future was among them already. The sky was blazing like her own pelt.
Her world was so much different then Selene’s world. It was vibrant with color all the same but the violet grass contrasted against the green. Would there worlds really be connected if the two wed? She highly doubted it.
As the moon began to cover the sun’s rays she ran just like before; tearing off the terrible outfit. She wasn’t going to see this through. Anger flew through Bast’s veins. Between everyone's demands of her, the guarding her like a princess, the over protecting. It was all Selene’s fault. If only she had never met the feline.
As it boiled up inside her, the cat crashed into a familiar face. A violet beauty unlike no other. No, she wouldn’t let that distract her. Her first instinct pulled out like a lion’s roar. A hiss loud enough to make the trees echo. As she flung backwards to avoid a swing.
“GO AWAY I don’t WANT YOU!”
It was clear she wasn’t happy about the whole thing either. Her gentle face twisting in discomfort. It didn’t seem like she was the type to get vocal either. Bast was not having this and would let Selene know exactly what she thought, not holding anything back to spare her feelings. The eclipse would fully commence, and it would be clear that a search party would be brought to them.
They would have to go through with this whether they wanted it or not. That being said, After all the ranting Bast realized how selfless Selene was during the whole fight. Listening to her complain, listening to her fears. Selene may have not wanted it anymore then she did, but clearly she saw how important it was to the clans and seemingly came anyway. Even though it was also clear she ran away just like Bast.
Listening to her just like when they were children. This softened her anger. Bast was still mad, no question about it, but she saw the fear in Selene. She didn’t want to hurt her anymore then she already had.
“I’m sorry.”
At that point the search party had caught up with them, and dragged them away. At first Bast fought back, but eventually gave in. Maybe. Just maybe things will work out?
