You may use 2 smaller items to turn them into a larger one
2 smalls = 1 medium
2 mediums or 1 medium and 2 smalls = 1 large
1 large and 1 medium or 3 mediums or 7 smalls = 1 Extra large
If an artist deems that the item(s) are too complex for the shop item you use then they may tell you that you need the next item size up. Like if you plan on using a medium item for a bridle but the artist deems the bridle is too complicated for that shop item then you will either have to use a large item or you may use your medium item plus a small item to turn them into a large item.
