Postby KathrynKat » Sun Nov 13, 2022 3:35 pm

Your First Fall-O-Ween Forest Ride wrote:You've come to a grassy area alongside the trail when you could finally get close to the pregnant mare. You have supplies in your saddlebag that can be used to aid catching or tending to this Grelifcent. (You've finally caught up with the pregnant mare and she isn't moving too far ahead. She has slowed down and eventually came to a stop. You are able to dismount or just rope her. Make your story 250-400 Word Count.)
Answer #1

After you've captured the mare, it's time to walk her back to the Agency. (250-400 Word Count Story)

The 3 users who won, will then be judged on all their stories and which is the winner of the mare + first pick of the foals. While the other 2 winners will each get one of the other 3 foals.

Grelifcent Assigned To Currently: Chocolate
Answer 1:
Chocolate and I follow the sounds of cracking branches. The trees open up again to reveal a grassy clearing. I was both surprised and relieved to see the very pregnant mare ahead of me in the clearing. She was breathing hard, almost wheezing, making me concerned about how hard she must've run from me and Chocolate. I dismount Chocolate and keep an eye on the mare, who has since stopped moving as she catches her breath; eyeing me as much as I am her. I grab the emergency supplies saddle bag and fish out the rope.

I tied it into a makeshift halter, with the extra acting as a lead. I hoped it would be enough to lead her back towards the agency to give birth in a safer location. I turn back around slowly, and think to myself how glad I am she doesn't have a horn or fangs to make things trickier. Chocolate stays put as I walk slowly towards the mare, watching us both intensely. The pregnant mare pins her ears back at first and huffs at me. I speak softly to her, and somehow manage to get within arm's reach of her without her lashing out or taking off. She pricks her ears forward then, and her body language shifts to be more curious than cautious.

I get the makeshift halter over her head, and adjust it so it's secure, but not tight. I slowly lead her back to Chocolate, to avoid spooking her with the other mare. A few drops hit my face as it starts to rain.

Answer 2:
I tie the lead to the horn on Chocolate's saddle, then dig through the emergency supplies to grab the waterproof poncho and a walkie-talkie I put it on and assess the weather. The skies are darker, and the wind is kicking up. I make sure the poncho is secure on me before I mount Chocolate. I pull the walkie-talkie out and try the signal, but the trees and distance puts me just out of reach to everyone back at the agency. I get my bearings again, and carefully walk us all back the way we came. Things are bit drier once we hit the canopy, where bare branches and evergreens provide some protection from the rain. But i keep an eye and ear out for snapping branches from the wind.

The dried leaves soon become slick from the rain, and I monitor both Chocolate's and the pregnant mare's footing as we continue through the trees. It's slow going. It feels like hours have passed by the time we hit the brambles close to the flower fields. I check my watch; it's been less than an hour since we began heading back with the pregnant mare. Soon enough, I can see the meadow through the trees. Chocolate perks up a bit seeing this, knowing we were getting closer to home. Both mares pick up the pace as we enter the field, and get back onto the trail proper.

As we approach the bridge I can feel the pregnant mare slowing down and finally stopping entirely. She doesn't want to cross the bridge. I dismount Chocolate and untie the lead from the saddle horn. I approach her slowly and pat her neck, then try to coax her onto the bridge. First one step, then another. I see Chocolate following us carefully behind the other mare. I'm impressed at her intuition yet again. Soon, we're across the bridge. I get back in the saddle and from here it's a home stretch back to the agency. I grab the walkie-talkie again and try to radio the agency.

This time someone picks up. Relief floods me and i tell them I'm coming back early, and that I'd found a pregnant mare out on the trail. I can hear the guide sputtering, before it goes silent. When he comes back I'm told that someone will meet me at the gates. Shortly we arrive, and true to his word, several people were waiting near the gate. The pregnant mare pins her ears back seeing them, but still continues. Once we're safely on the other side of the gate i hand her off to a much more experienced guide who walks her back towards the stables. I follow with Chocolate to untack and brush out Chocolate before putting her back in her stall. Exhaustion hits me as I finish; today was an unexpectedly long day.

I hope you don't mind I went a bit long at the end there
