Grelifcent Assigned To Currently: Chocolate Answer 1: Chocolate and I pursue the mare through the trees. Bare branches and needled ones whip past us as we move through the trees, seemingly both focused on the same goal; tracking down the pregnant mare. Her tracks can be clearly seen on the forest floor after I can no longer hear her clearly. based on ear flicks and subtle movements, Chocolate can, and I let her guide mas I keep track of our direction as best I can through the trees. It would be bad to get lost now, this deep in the woods so far from the trail. I slow us down and we continue at an easy trot.
The pregnant mare knows these woods well; several times I had to take Chocolate and I the long way around things like brambles, and tight spaces. I was impressed she could fit through some the spaces as well. I dismount to inspect a half fallen log that she crawled under, judging from the scrapes and scrambling marks on the ground. I turn back around and mount Chocolate to continue following the trail. Based on the stride lengths she had slowed down. However, she was still quite a ways ahead of us. I wasn't sure if we'd be able to find her again before nightfall.
I don't hear hoof beats, or labored breathing. But Chocolate was still focused on the general direction the trail was taking us. We continue at a walk to navigate the more treacherous terrain. After about ten minutes the trees thin out as they get larger. Light falls in more broken patterns on the ground. A cracked branch catches both of our attentions. I pick the pace back up to a careful trot.
