Why This Recipe?Bonnie was a popular pastry chef, who had travelled far and wide to share the joy and tastiness of her creations. She had built quite the reputation for herself, and as a result often felt the pressure to amaze and excite her customers with each new recipe. On the year that she moved in with her partner
Virosa, a kind witch who lived close by a lively village, there was a festival held downtown to celebrate the town’s founding, and a feast was to be held. Naturally, Bonnie was assigned the task of creating a dessert, and with her reputation well known to the villagers, they all excitedly awaited her newest recipe. The only problem was…. Bonnie was running out of ideas! With only a limited amount of recourses and ingredients, it was becoming increasingly difficult to create something entirely new each time.
Only one week before the festival, and Bonnie was still stumped. She stared down at her open recipe book and sighed heavily. Virosa looked up from a book they had been reading. “Yes, love?” The witch asked, smiling gently. Bonnie let out a (rather dramatic) cry of despair as she threw her arms in the air, helpless. “I’m
doomed, Vi! I cant think of anything new to make with these ingredients! How am I going to come up with something in time for the festival?! And if I cant come up with something for the festival.. Oh Gob, Vi, how am I supposed to come up with new things for
my business–“
Virosa pulled Bonnie into their arms, interrupting her before she could spiral any further. “Shhh, love, you are going to be okay.” Virosa tried extremely hard to put as much comfort and reassurance as she could muster into the words. Bonnie just whined pitifully, and stayed silent, though she was obviously still worried. The witch thought for a moment, then had an idea. “What if… you looked into some alternative ingredients? Maybe I have something you could use?”
Bonnie looked up at her then, considering the idea. Virosa made a living selling homemade herbal remedies, potions, and elixirs. Most of the ingredients they used were magical in nature, or otherwise unnatural. But a magic pastry…. Bonnie couldnt help but smile, the idea sounded so fun. “…That’s actually a wonderful idea! Do you mind if I take a look?” Bonnie asked. Virosa nodded, happy to be of help.
Only a few minutes later, Bonnie had found it. Fairy dust. It was perfect. She had seen Virosa use it in various elixirs and potions before, and when they added the dust it always seemed to give the mixture a beautiful holographic shine. Virosa had even commented once that the dust tasted like fresh berries. Now feeling excited and motivated, the baker hurried over to their kitchen with the fairy dust in hand, and went right to work testing out possible recipes. She stayed up all night, and it took another full day to perfect the original recipe, but soon the Moon Puff Pastry was born. It was possibly her most unique and beautiful pastry yet, and it had been special. She considered it a joint effort between herself and Virosa, and to this day she continues to include magical ingredients in her recipes!
