i can hear them… the delicate whispers as i wander into a crowded hall, features and frame veiled with gauzy, ivory silks.

i can see them… rosy lips that parting with empty poisons against a tyrant and his vile beasts, adorned with hushed voices
that spoke of a devil and his demons.

the rat king they call me… the tyrant ruler who massacred the royal family and a soon-to-be princess. a beautiful
maiden who had once lain among the cinders, and who fell endlessly in love with a prince.

a beautiful maiden who drew her last breath on the eve of her wedding night.

but behind the veil of gauzy, ivory silks, that same, beautiful maiden weeps, enchanting features of rosy smiles and
endlessly cerulean eyes now marred with heartbreak, hiding behind the identity of ‘the rat king’.

for beneath the veil that crowns me a phantom king, apart of me still belongs to her— to innocently sweet ellika who
had loved and loved recklessly. who had rushed into love at midnight when the clock struck twelve.

i can still remember that enchanting night— the salty kiss of tears against my cheeks as satin fabrics pooled at my toes…
tattered and broken.
and twirling at my ankles, four, little mice caught my tears, eyes wide with twin planets seemingly lost in an endlessly, blue
orbit as dreams came true beneath the gentle weight of their fingers.
