I can't believe I almost put "bat-" for the bat animorphGender: Male
Rank: Warrior

Prompt:Nightpaw hesitated at the entrance to camp. The guard was gone - or, more likely, had transformed and was now watching more stealthily from the shadows. And if that was the case, there was no way he was getting out without being caught.
He stood there at the entrance for another few heartbeats, hesitant. The other apprentices had dared him to sneak out of camp; if he went back now, he'd never live it down.
Shifting from paw to paw just inside the entrance for a moment, he sucked in a breath. There was…
one way he could probably get out of camp unnoticed.
Apprentices technically weren't supposed to transform without supervision, but… surely the
first cats never needed anyone's permission.
And Nightpaw carried that thought into the sky, where he flapped awkwardly and almost fell several times. But he was doing it! He'd snuck out of camp,
and he'd transformed without any of the stupid warriors allowing him to.
It felt
amazing. It felt so amazing that he completely forgot he was flying away from camp very quickly.
And when he finally realized and tried to look back, he remembered that bats have very poor vision.
Panicking, he tried to use that… what was it called? He really should've paid more attention to his mentor.
But it didn't matter, anyway, because all his bat-shrieking earned him was more confusion and a headache and
where even was he??Nightpaw woke up tangled in the branches of an old tree the next day. The sun was already high in the sky -
everybody would know he'd snuck out by now.
It took him until at least the next morning to even find his way home - and that was only because he'd happened to run into a border patrol (that seemed to have been looking for him, anyway).
Everyone was very angry, after being relieved he wasn't dead. He neglected to tell them
how he'd gotten out unseen, but it seemed clear on their faces that they already had a pretty good idea.
He was conditionally confined to the camp for the next moon.
…
At least he'd won the dare.
