Offspring Possibilities
Many features have the possibility of "Mismatch" or "Duplicate" during creation.
Standard: If no special aspects are rolled then a feature is inherited from Parent 1 or Parent 2 by random chance.
Mismatch: Some features can become mismatched. Instead of inheriting from Parent 1 or Parent 2 they instead inherit a new feature that is some combination of the parents features. For example a
Color mismatch is very common and means that offspring will have aspects of both parents coloration.
Duplicate: Some features can be duplicated. Instead of inheriting from Parent 1 or Parent 2 they instead gain a new copy of the feature. This new feature rolls on the mismatch table as well to determine it's appearance.
Way to Detailed Example: (There is a Google Sheet set up that does all the calculations for the artists and interprets the results.) Parent 1 has
Extra: Ram Horns and Parent 2 has
Extra: Narwhal horns. Extras have a 15% chance of becoming mismatched and a 70% chance of being duplicated. The artist rolls first to see if the extras are mismatched. They roll an 10 (less than or equal to 15) so the extras are mismatched. They can choose how to mismatch the horns. They could have two horns positioned similar to ram horns, but straighter with a bit of twist, or they could have a single curly horn in the middle of the forehead, the artist has complete discretion. The artist then rolls on the duplication table; a 30 (less than or equal to 70) which results in another set of extras. They roll again to see if the new set is mismatched; a 53 (NOT less than or equal to 15) so then they roll for which parent (1 or 2); a 2. So the offspring will have 1 set of mismatched horns and one set of ram horns. The artist rolls everything before planning the design so that they can alter as needed. Now that the offspring for sure has ram horns they may choose to simply add a curl to the narwhal horns. Artists have a lot of discretion in the interest of making the designs appealing.
For Chimera with numerous Extras they are 'paired' for breeding in the order they are in the listed in the parents description, however if this leads to a combination the artist thinks will lead to an awkward design they may adjust what the pairs are.
