"Oh, look, Mistkit opened her eyes!" the excited voice of Mistfang's mother echoed in her ears as she replayed the memory for the zillionth time in her head.

Her favourite memory was the day when she opened her eyes for the first time. She saw her mother, Crookedear, staring at her, lovingly, like this was a miracle. And Mistfang will always believe that. She will always remember her mother's soft voice, her advice always echoing through Mistfang's ears, her mother's fluffy fur that Mistfang used to curl up in every day for twelve moons, her mother's wise eyes who seemed to notice it all, and most importantly, the love her mother had for her, for 29 wonderful moons. No, not 29; every moon that Mistfang will ever live through, alive or in TwinkleClan, because her mother will always be with her.

Wait, I just realised; Mistfang's favourite memory isn't her opening her eyes for the first time. No, not at all. Not even close. It's her mother. And that memory will live inside Mistfang's soul for all eternity, no matter what.

Newkit’s first year was a particularly hard and dry one. No cat knew when the next rain fall would be. The ground and leaves were cracking and brittle. Newkit made it to 3 moons without seeing a single drop of rain. That’s when the giant grey blankets began to roll themselves across the sky.
He stares up at the disappearing blue sky as shadows wash over the land.
He snaps out of his trance and glances around for his mother, and darts into the nursery.
Dawnfeather comes running in instead and purrs in a knowing way.
“What is it? Whats happening?” he mewls
“This is rain, you’re inside and safe, its alright”
Questions whirl around in his head, why is it so big, why is it so loud.
A flash of bright light.
He inches closer to the entrance to the burrow, why is it so beautiful.
A crack strikes his ear and forces him back into the den, why is it so loud.
“Its okay young one” Dawnfeather repeats “Look at the way the light dances as the water finally falls”
Newkit tilts his head again as he watches the lightshow going on in the sky, bracing himself for each crack of thunder. Dawnfeather stayed with him and as he curled up next to her, the cracks of thunder became the soundtrack to the spectacle in the sky. as much as he knew he should, he just couldn’t bring himself to sleep with the beauty that was dancing above them.
“Newkit, I think I know what your mother could name you…”

Thunderear treasures that memory because that was the day that the world first showed him the power and beauty nature held within it. (Of course that’s a newer meaning that he has pulled from it as he’s aged. As a kit it was just fun pretty lights!)

Lunar stood in front of Ursa Major TallPine, the strong and imposing tom looking down at him with a slight smile.
"Lunar, you have completed your training under the guidence of GoldenEyes" Lunar quickly looked back at his mentor, the tall lean tom giving him a smile and and a nod as TallPine continued.
"You have shown a great deal of strength and dedication to your place in Celestial Clan, and as such you shall be given your full name, and status as a Canis Major" The leader continued as he paused for a moment, the tip of his tail twitching.
"From this moment on, you will be known as LunarMist. The Clan welcomes you as a new Canis Major and a full member of the clan" TallPine dipped his head, and LunarMist beamed, his tail held up straight as his chest filled with pride.
Around him his clanmates called out his new name, and LunarMist felt like he was on top of the world. Only a few moons ago TallPine welcomed him and his sibling, Solar, into the clan. They were only around 7 moons when they had shown up at Celestial Clan's camp, and spent the last 5 moons training under GoldenEyes and RedFeather.
The clan came forward to say their congratulations to LunarMist, praising them for his hard work. LunarMist smiled and thanked them all, but the one cat he didn't see was his sibling, Solar. They excused themselves and went to look for their sibling, and found them sitting near the back of the crowd.
"Solar!" LunarMist called out to them, sitting next to them and nuzzling their cheek.
"I almost thought you forgot about me" he chuckled and Solar just sighed softly, smiling at him.
"you know I'm not fond of crowds, I was going to come see you afterwards" they commented, nudging LunarMist who just chuckled.
"I'm sorry RedFeather is so hard to please, you should have been with me today" they sighed and leaned closer. LunarMist swore he could feel Solar jolt, but they just placed their chin on LunarMist's head.
"Don't worry about me, I'm just not as gifted with this as you are, you earned this Lunar" Solar leaned back and LunarMist smiled.
"That's LunarMist, to you" they both paused for a moment before bursting out laughing.

"Your form is sloppy."

Cinderkit's head whipped around at the comment, nose crinkling with distaste at the critique. She had been improvising a fight, playing at being a real warrior, big and strong and facing down an invisible enemy. With the unwelcome interjection, her fantasy was shattered, and she was reminded again of just how small she was, and just how long her training would be.

"That's why I'm practicing, dummy," she retorted, lashing her tail. "So I can get better." It was a thinly veiled attempt to disguise her hurt, and the other cat seemed to realize this. A guilty expression crossed the face of her critic: an apprentice, not that much older than herself, but quite a bit larger. His orange eyes slanted sideways, a bit sheepishly.

"Sorry," he mumbled. "I guess it's not your fault you're not in training. I remember being impatient and excited for it to begin, too."

"You're not even that much older than me!" Cinderkit protested, sticking her tail straight up in outrage. She didn't want his pity, she just wanted to be left alone.

"I'm not," the young tomcat agreed. "But we haven't met before, have we?"

A pause, while Cinderkit wracked her brains, trying to recall if she'd seen him in the nursery at all before. She couldn't recall seeing him before-and truthfully, she avoided observing the apprentices too much, because that just made her all jealous and impatient, and her mother said that wasn't behavior befitting of a warrior.

This apprentice, though- he wasn't that much older than her, but he looked like twice as much of a warrior in her eyes. Tall and solid, with a serious gleam in his orange eyes.

"No," she said, tilting her head at him. "We haven't met."

"I'm Rookpaw," he introduced himself, the serious look melting into something decidedly more friendly. The name sounded familiar, but she still couldn't quite place it.

"I'm Cinderkit," she responded, determined not to let him be more polite than her. "And just for the record, I'm going to be an apprentice soon. So. You know, I'm not a baby kitten or anything."

"I didn't say you were."

"Let's keep it that way," she huffed. There were those feelings of jealousy that she'd been trying to suppress.

"Hm. You're pretty clever, for a kit," he observed. Cinderkit tried to stamp down the swell of pride that brought on- he was being patronizing, and she didn't like it.

"Almost an apprentice!" She reminded him, sharply. "I bet I'll be just as good as you someday, Rookpaw. Better, even."

Rookpaw- as she said his name out loud, she remembered where she'd heard it before. Her mother had mentioned him once or twice, as an exceptionally talented apprentice, who'd been taken in when he was past kitten age. That explained why she'd never seen him in the nursery-but it also meant she had just challenged the best apprentice in the clan.

Flattening her ears, she fought back a wave of shame. He was going to laugh at her again.

But Rookpaw was silent. Cinderkit risked a glance upward, and saw him looking seriously at her.

"I believe it," he said, with a slight smile. "You're determined-and if there's one thing I've been told until my ears fall off, it's that a real warrior never gives up. You seem to have understood that far faster than I did."

The dark-furred apprentice's ears twitched up as someone called his name from across the camp. A mentor or denmate, probably- Cinderkit wasn't really paying attention, instead swelling with pride at the compliment.

"I have to go," Rookpaw said, waving his tail at her. "It was nice to meet you, Cinderkit. I'll see you in training soon enough, I suppose." Cinderkit nodded enthusiastically, digging her claws into the dirt. She had made him a challenge, after all- and she wasn't going to back down from it.

"Remember to keep your balance," was the last thing he said to her as he turned to go. "If you're steady on your paws, enemies will find it difficult to knock you over."

That first encounter with Rookpaw was a memory she held close, leaning on that praise for motivation when she was tired. Rookpaw himself became her friend, and had that same assessing, pleased look on his face when she beat him in a spar for the first time.

"Told you," she said, smirking at him as he clambered to his paws, dusting off his fur.

"I said I believed you would someday, didn't I?" He laughed in response.

Prompt: It had been freezing cold, and Tinseltail found herself shivering from tail to nose! The other kits in the den noticed this, and one by one each came over to lay down beside her. The entire group behaved for once, putting aside rivalries to share the warmth of one another and stories of their training. hey grew closer as a clan that night, and even now when she feels down she remembers back to that night and smiles. Some of those stories went on to become tall tales, while others became legends in their own right.
