mimry is known by most in their little area of the neighborhood... their house is unassuming from the front, a little cottage-esque home, with a wooden fence around the yard that looks almost handmade, with how patchy and botched the wood looks. behind it though, where anything you wish for can be found, and the flowers look almost like they are not from this world, is a special place...
one of the kalons they're babysitting, a kalon named bennet, doesnt seem very interested in what they see before them. their sibling, a small thing just short of ten, mimry remembers she told them proudly, is glancing around the garden with wide eyes and a mind full of curiosity.
"mx mimry, whats this, whats this?" clara asks excitedly, pointing to a rose bush that stretches far and wide, it's blooms as bright and blue as a summer sky. mimry smiles a gentle smile, and approaches slowly... there's a secret to this bush, but mimry doesnt want to spoil the surprise just yet.
"this is a very special rose bush, given to me by a dear friend... for you see, these roses are not ordinary roses..." mimry laughs quietly at the confused look on clara's face, but does not miss the curious glance from bennet from behind them. mimry calms down enough to reach into their pocket, pulling out a couple strange, purple rocks... very small, the size of a pea at most, each one of them. they offer one to bennet as well, which they reluctantly take, and crouch down next to clara, eyeing the roses with a speculative look. mimry then closes their eyes, and begins humming a small song they learned long ago...
as they do, the small purple 'rocks' begin to glow faintly, and at this, the roses begin to shudder and shake, slowly at first, but more noticeably as mimry sings...
at last, as mimry finishes their song, the roses go completely still... only to practically rocket off the bushes and burst into the air in a flurry of glowing lights and feather-soft blue petals... as they slowly descend, clara and bennet's eyes light up, at the sight of the most beautiful and brilliant butterflies... veins of purple and teal run through their wings like stained glass, and white, petal-like markings cover their dark green bodies and antennae. they shimmer in the light of the rising moon, more than any gem either of them had seen.
mimry smiles. "i have no idea what they are, but whenever i sing to them, they come out of hiding... they love the gazebo, and often i find them dancing with the hummingbirds..." one of the butterflies lands smack in the middle of bennet's forehead, and they almost lose balance, but manage to stay on their feet, looking at the butterfly with an amazed expression.
"i find that whenever i struggle to sleep, or im worried about bad dreams... if i sing to them before bed, and wish them goodnight, all my worries simply..." mimry holds out their pinky for one of the butterflies, one with pink tipped antennae and wings, and it perches itself on them delicately... flutters its wings and glances at mimry, as if it knows them well. "fly away." they say, and whisper a gentle goodnight, as the butterflies quickly all seem to cluster together, before in the blink of an eye, returning to the bush, in their former form once more.
"do you think you're ready to go to bed now? your parents will be pretty upset, if i dont get you to bed when they asked me to.." they glance at the siblings with a little laugh, and both of them nod, though bennet is a little more reluctant. "and if you get scared, just remember that the butterflies are looking out for you, and im here too." mimry smiles, and offer both kalons a hand. they take them, and mimry leads them back inside, shutting off the lights to the garden, so that the flowers can get their rest.
mimry cannot explain their garden, nor what happens in it... but they are endlessly grateful for the joy it can bring to others.
