And the Moon was in love with the Sun.

Act 1: A child from the stars

Stella was born on a farm. She lived an ordinary life for the most part, doing chores and helping with the animals. It was just her and her father living on the farm. He told Stella that her mother had come from the stars, that she was a beautiful and kind extraterrestrial being. She had to return to the stars when Stella was little, and one day she might be back.

The other kits she told seemed to think she was delusional, like a child that believed in fairies and unicorns. They told her in hushed voices her mother had died, she was ordinary. They pitied her. But Stella didn’t care, it was real to her at least.

She only had one memory of her mother. It had been a clear night, when she was small, her mother had held her in her arms as they stargazed. She had pointed up to the constellations, shown Stella where she was from.

“Sometimes I miss my old home but Stellar, my Moon, my Darling, it was worth leaving it for you.” Her voice was beautiful, soothing, but had a powerful sort of echo to it, as if many Kalons spoke at once. Stella had looked up at her and giggled at the time. The details were fuzzy but Stella remembers her eyes were kind and glowing and there were definitely at least 6 of them. Stella really believed she was special.

Act 2: Asteroids

Stella never really had many friends in school, but she got by. She always felt drawn to astronomy, to study the stars and constellations. She memorized the pictures in the sky. She would carefully trace out the constellations to where her mom had shown her, where she was from.

She’d sit alone with her father at the dinner table, just the two of them on many a lonely evening. She could tell he missed mom, she’d meant a lot to them. Even when he didn’t mention her, Stella could tell he had a sadness. In the way he acted, how he’d never gotten rid of her old things, the empty third chair at the table, and how he’d gaze at the stars late into the night after he thought Stella had gone to bed. She wanted to make him feel better, but she didn’t know how. It was just her and her father.

Act 3: Constellations

There was one other Kalon she really cared about though. His name was Henry and he was her sun. His personality shone bright and brought life everywhere he went.

It had just started suddenly one day, they had been at lunch, and she noticed him siting alone. He was just eating quietly and watching the birds. It was so mundane, yet endearing and she could feel the subtle loneliness she had seen every night at dinner. This time maybe she could help.

They were married on the winter solstice and that night she brought him out to see her world.
She took him to her favorite hill on the farm, with a tall tree and a beautiful view of the stars. She showed him the familiar footholds of the tree she always used to climb.

“Come up! Let me show you the stars,” She called scrambling up the old oak, “Out here you can see everything.”

The first thing my old Astronomer taught me was that you cannot change the stars. They are older than you, and wiser than you, because they have lived through centuries and can foretell the centuries to come. Respect them, she told me, and learn how to open your heart and mind to the night and listen.

It would have been jolly good of them to warn me about this, thank you very much.

To say this wardrobe was cramped would be an understatement. There's a clothes hanger digging into my shoulder, and I'm not entirely sure what my foot is stepping in. It's dark, a bit stuffy, and the fact that I'm waiting for two children to let me out is a bit of a joke. I can hear them shuffling around in the room and murmuring in soft voices. I tap on the door, talking close to the tiny gap so they can hear me. "Are they gone?"

I'm pressed against the door - this really is a small wardrobe - but all of a sudden the door is opened and I tumble out onto the floor. My head is still foggy and I squeeze my eyes shut while the world stops spinning. "Yeah they're gone," one of them says, and I think it's a crime that I can't glare at them right now. When everything settles I open my eyes, blinking a few times, and stand up as quickly but as gently as I can. We regard each other; me with wariness, them with curiosity. They only come up to my shoulder; surely, they're not older than fifteen. And yes, they've shoved me rather roughly into that glorified box, but they've also saved my hide. So I straighten up and bow slightly. "Thank you," I say, as respectfully as I can. "I very much appreciate your - er - hospitality. But I think I should be-"

"Do you want a biscuit?" one of them suddenly asks. I pause mid sentnce. "Because you were pretty out of it before," she continues. "So...biscuit? Yes? Yes. Get the biscuits out." Before I can respond the other one is pulling out a tin, and I'm being pulled down until the three of us are sitting cross-legged in a circle. I nibble on the shortbread offered to me to be polite, but it's actually not bad. I can feel the anticipation in the air and I know they're waiting for me to speak.

"I don't know your names," I say, and I can tell they're disappointed that I didn't immediately launch into a story. Personally, I like to know someone's name before I do that. "I'm Elowyn," she says. "This is my brother, Erasmus." He nods in response, already halfway through a second biscuit. "I'm Caiyu," I say in response. It's obvious that they're still waiting for some kind of explanation. "I'm an Astronomer," I add, and their eyes light up in wonder. "Wow," Elowyn breathes. Erasmus looks rather impressed. "So you can read the stars and all that? Predict things?"

"It's not just predicting things," I correct him. "There's charting maps, interpreting signs, translating old texts, and many years of studying...but yes," I add, seeing their interest dip slightly. "Yes, in a way, we are able to somewhat predict future events." "Is that why those bandits were after you?" Erasmus asks. "That's what you were mumbling on about when we found you. Something about people trying to take you and not to let them. You're welcome, by the way." Elowyn shoots him a sideways glare at the last comment, but he does a very good job and pretending not to notice. I frown slightly. "I...think so." The memories themselves are still foggy, even though the events only happened this morning. She gives me a sympathetic smile. "Why don't you try and tell us what happened?" she asks in a soothing voice, like a mother speaking to a child. She's definitely the more mature of the two, then, even if I'm not entirely sure I appreciate the tone considering the age gap between us. I do appreciate the help, though. And the biscuit.

"I was travelling," I begin slowly. "I was only meant to be coming here to get some supplies we didn't have back home - the trip should have only taken a few days. I arrived...yesterday, I think, later in the evening. I stayed the night in a tavern, and this morning I decided to go down to the meditation temple. We have one back home, you see, and it always makes me feel better afterwards. I thought I would feel refreshed after the journey. It's such a lovely temple you have here, too...with all the rock gardens and water features...so peaceful. A few people were hanging around outside the main building. They didn't exactly look like the sort to enjoy meditation, but I thought it was good, that maybe they were trying something new. I'd just stepped inside when I was greeted by the woman who ran the meditation classes. We got talking and I told her I was an Astronomer, and she was gushing over wonderful that is, and how interesting the stars are, and how I was so blessed to have been chosen for the job. I didn't think to have my guard up; she just seemed so nice. She invited me in to one of the private rooms so I could meditate in peace, and lit some incense just before she closed the door. At first it was lovely. The smell was so sweet, and comforting, but then...it's like it got heavier. Thicker. My thoughts became all jumbled, and I could hardly stand. Then the door opened, and these people came in grabbed me. I vaguely recognized one of the faces, and I think...I'm sure it was the people who had been standing outside. Bandits, I know now. They tried to take me out the back to slip away but I managed to slip away from them - the fresh air cleared me head for just a moment, and I took my chance to run. I didn't know where I was running, but I guess it was towards the Academy, because I was in a forest and then I collapsed and then...well, you two found me, and brought me inside." And shoved me in a wardrobe, I added silently.

"I'm glad they didn't get you," Elowyn says, frowning. "I would have given them a real piece of my mind if we had." At this, Erasmus let's out a snort of laughter. "What spell are you going to cast - the wrath of a hundred paper cuts? The anxiety of handing in a late essay?" He now bursts into a proper belly laugh at his own joke, and Elowyn's expression is of one who's heard many similar jokes before. "Hilarious," she says dryly. "At least I always get my papers done. You do yours last minute, or come up with an excuse to hand them in after the due date. You're lucky you're a charmer." "I do do my work, thank you very much. I go to the library with you. We study." "I study, and I'm kind enough to read to you when you won't settle down and do it yourself."

    "Bossyboots."
    "Lazybum."
    "Teachers pet."
    "Teachers exasperation."
    "Bookworm."
    "Regular worm."

There's a playful undertone in their banter, the kind that only siblings have, and as much as it's a little bit fun to listen to it's not getting me anywhere. "Do you two bicker like this a lot?" I interrupt. "No," she says. "Yes," he says at the same time. They look at each other. "Sometimes," they say in unison.

Suddenly there's a lock at the door. My head is clearer now, and I'm only just remembering that this is a magic Academy. There are students here, and teachers. I'm suddenly wondering how they managed to sneak me up here without being noticed. Actually, now I'm wondering why they snuck me up here in the first place. They both jump at the sudden noise.

    "Who is it?" Elowyn asks.
"There's no one here," Erasmus says, and his sister smacks a hand to her forehead.

"It's Professor Emill," a voice says through the door. "Some students walking by say they've heard...another voice, coming from your room? Have you got someone else in there with you?"

"No," the siblings quickly respond. Too quickly to be believed. The handle turns down. Erasmus, obviously thinking on his feet - as they seem to have done this whole time - takes a blanket and throws it over me. I'm still trying to untangle myself when the door opens. My face is flushed when I toss it away, giving him a sharp look. "Really?" I say. "That's the best you could do?" I receive a shrug in response, and really I shouldn't of expected anything else.

I look up into the face of the Professor, who looks understandably shocked. "I'm sorry," I immediately say, standing up. "I didn't - I mean, I didn't mean to be here. They found me in a spot of trouble, and-"

"We saved him," Erasmus says, puffing out his chest. "We helped him," Elowyn corrects him. "Totally saved him," her brother carries on, ignoring her. "We got him away from like, a hundred bandits with nothing but our wits and our bare hands-" "Shut up, Raz," she hisses. He opens his mouth to speak but stops when the Professor raises a hand, fixing the two with a hard look. "Neither of you are to leave this room," he says in a quiet, stern voice. "And you-" he nods to me, "you come with me." I turn to the kids for a moment to bow again in thanks, and then follow the other man out of the room. They just have a chance to call out - "Hope everything goes well for you!" "Hope you like the biscuit!" - before the door is closed.

    * * * * *

"-so then they found me, and took me up to their room. I think they half carried me, really, I could hardly stand on my own two feet. When we were in their room they thought someone was coming so they shoved me in their wardrobe, and then when it was safe I came out and they gave me a biscuit, I explained what happened, you came, and here we are."

I'm in his office, sitting in a rather plush chair while he watches me from the other side of his desk. The tea he's given me is sweet, almost with a hint of spice, and I want to ask what kind it is but I'm not sure it's the appropriate time. He's been nodding slowly as I speak, and now that I'm done he leans back in his chair with a thoughtful look on his face.

"We'll have to report this," he says. His voice is softer now that it's not so authoritive. His eyes are, too, but I'm trying not to notice. "I don't want them to get in trouble," I say quickly. "I know they should have told someone, but they were only trying to help." "I know," he says in a soothing tone that's not in any way condescending. "They won't get in trouble. Erasmus is always looking for adventure, and Elowyn...well, she always tries to do the right thing. Hearts of gold, both of them." I relax slightly as he continues. "No, I mean we need to report this to the meditation temple. If one of their own is helping bandits, they need to know. When someone chooses profit over morals, that's when they start turning sour." He shakes his head, and then turns his gaze to me.

"So you believe they were after you because you're an Astronomer?" "It's most likely," I reply with a small sigh. "Perhaps one of them was in the tavern, and overheard me talking to people. The information easily could have been passed on. Obviously it was a set up. They could have been following me for all I know. If I hadn't of gone there of my own accord, I'm sure they would have found a way to get that incense into me." I let out another, more frustrated sigh. "Sometimes I think a lot of Astronomers wouldn't be Astronomers if they could help it. Who wants to sign up for a job where you might get taken hostage because you can sometimes predict some things in the stars? We can't help that we're born into this role."

He tilts his head in a sympathetic smile. Again, I like it better than the one I received before. "You must love it though, surely?" he asks. "Being connected to the stars, and the night, and all of the universe like you are. There are only so many people like you. It makes you special." I did not blush at his words, but there is a slight chance that my cheeks may have tinted pink. "I do love it," I admit, eager to keep talking and not embarrass myself. "I love it more than - well, I don't know. I can't love it more than life because it is my life. I could never imagine doing anything else, or being anyone else, and I suppose that's because I was never supposed to be anyone else. Moonlight runs in our veins, as my teacher says." He nods as I speak, his eyes never leaving my face as he listens intently. I sip a bit more of my tea.

"You must like being a Professor, yes?" I ask in return. It's only polite, but I certainly wouldn't mind learning a bit more about him in this conversation. "What kind of magic do you teach?" He laughs slightly at my question and rubs the back of his neck. "I'm actually not magic. My brothers are, and they were students here, but I never was. I teach potions, actually. You don't need powers for that. Just a good head for ingredients and recipes and numbers." I'm slightly surprised by this. "Both siblings are, and you're-" "Not," he finishes, and my face flushes again. "I used to be quite bitter about it, to tell you the truth. I think part of the reason I started working here was to be apart of the world they were in. It's different now, though. Working here works for me. I feel like...I don't know, I was always supposed to do it. Plus it's a chance to show those magic folk that us non-magic people still have a trick or two up our sleeves."

We both laugh, and it feels nice. It feels comfortable. Even the few seconds of silence that follow are comfortable, when the two of us share in the moment, before he clears his throat slightly. "I'll get word to the meditation temple as soon as I can to let them know what took place. In the meantime, I think it would be safer if you stayed here the night. Those bandits might still be lurking around and I'd rather you don't have to deal with them again. We'll get you a room set up and tomorrow I'll escort you back to town to collect the supplies you were meant to be getting. It's best you rest up for awhile, sleep of the effects of the incense, and when you feel up to it..." he pauses to clear his throat again, and there's a nervous tone in his voice as he continues. "When you feel up to it, later on, I'll escort you down to the dining hall as well." I'm trying hard to keep my composure as I respond. "That would be lovely, thank you," I say. "It's very kind of you, and I would...be glad of the company."

We both nod, both turn away to avoid each other's eyes, both try to act as normal as we can. He suddenly seems very preoccupied with organizing some of the glass jars on his desk. I decide to ask about the tea over dinner.

One of the good things about being an Astronomer, I'm now remembering, is that we're able to travel as we please.
And really, this town and mine aren't too far apart.

    * * * * *

I'm in my room for the night, comfortably full with the sound of his laughter still echoing in my ears. My face is turned towards the window. It's dusk now. The skies are all lavender and cream, and there's a streak of blue towards the horizon that's the same shade as his eyes. I look up at the stars, just beginning to appear. You better tell me something good about him, I say silently. You owe me one.

Celestial was just a baby when she was dropped off at the light tower. The night was cold and a bitter storm had rolled in. Cartographer who was the light keeper heard 3 large bangs against his door. “Oh dear! Who ever could that be ??” He scurried down the stairs with haste. Once finally to the heavy wooden door, the griffon heaved it open. Rain and wind whistling by.

“Hello?” He called out to the abyss. No answer or so he thought. Right as he was about to close the door he heard a little squeak. He gave a second look. “Hmm must have been this old door” and as he said that another bit much louder squeak came. But this time it sounded as if it came from the stairs. “Oh my goodness!!” Cartographer exclaimed.

There sat a little wrapped up bundle of a baby. With a little note that read “Here is my darling baby. I am leaving town due to unforeseen circumstances and I cannot take her with me. Please take care of her and raise her as your own.” Cartographer picked up the bundle and unwrapped it to see the little kit with a small bracelet apon her paw. The kit had a happy expression despite the situation.

The griffon couldn’t help but give a soft smile. “I shall call you celestial because my dear you are in fact heavenly” celestial gave a big grin and laugh to the new name. “Come on let’s get you cleaned up and a warm belly!” With that they went back within the tower and

And so celestial grew to be an outstanding young lady. Full of love life and energy. She grew the courage to finally follow her passion of astrology; something her step father held very tight to his heart. Along the way she rescued a kitten she name moon. She also unfortunately gained her late step fathers special glasses he wore. It was a tough couple of months following his passing. But with the help of the stars and her kitten moon she found happiness again.

Image Plutine 'Pluto' CopernicusImage
Astronomer / Astrologer / Philosopher

Image

username: -wild-
Name: Plutine 'Pluto' Copernicus
Gender: Male

"Astrology is a Language. If you understand this language,
the sky speaks to you."

Who are you?

"Who am I? Well I am who I am I suppose... Or am I who you think I am? Am I who you want me to be? What do you mean when you ask that? Do you want to know where I'm from, or where I grew up? What I do for a living, for money, for life? Perhaps you want to know what I dream or what I've seen, maybe what I fear? But the only way I could answer that question is - I am me, and I'm not entirely sure how else I could possibly answer that."

Personality

Thoughtful. Pluto is extremely thoughtful. Thoughtful about anything and everything.
If there is something to be thought then Pluto will surely think it. He spends most of his
time thinking, it is mostly his job after all. When Pluto isn't thinking however, he is normally
listening. He is a great listener, to and for all. His ability to just listen and give or not give
advice when either is needed has garnered him plenty of close knit friends, who would equally
support him in a time of need. He's proven himself to be quite the reliable sort and the relationships
he has with others benefits greatly from this. One of his not so quality traits however, many would
say is his indecisiveness. This does of course stem from how much thought he puts into everything
he does. While this normally is quite the good thing, when it comes to making decisions for himself
his indecisiveness completely takes over. Sometimes it could take him days before he makes certain
decisions! But this is a quirk most become quite accustomed too after knowing Pluto for a good
amount of time. He is a kind and approachable soul who only wishes the best for everyone. There
isn't a bad bone in his body and would be the last person to cause any sort of purposeful harm
to others. Pluto is intelligent, that is very evident, even when first meeting him. He had always adored
the art of learning, even from a young age, and his parents would always give him more and more
books or toys or films that would help his education in some way. That is of course how he discovered
star gazing and astrology, but that of course is another story. Pluto, among many of his other traits, is
gentle. There isn't a soul in this world who could tell you that they've heard him raise his voice. He isn't
aggressive, not in the least. If a problem ever arises the Pluto always tries his best to resolve it amicably.

---> Star Gazing // One of Pluto's greatest loves and one of the biggest traits that really makes him 'him', has to be his love and ability for star-gazing. At home he has numerous telescopes, big and small, that he will take out to look at the stars and planet's on every clear night that he has (even after his shifts at the Observatory and Planetarium). His most favourite telescope to use however, is the one at his work. The huge telescope sitting atop the observatory, reserved only for the use of staff. It took many years for Pluto to get where he is now, so being able to use the telescope is a very big deal for him.

---> Astrology // While star gazing is somewhat similar to his hobby of star gazing, Pluto insists its an entirely different thing within itself. But astrology is something that Pluto takes a great belief in. He knows his entire natal chart off by heart (and the ones of his closest friends and family). He is very proud of his zodiac sign and believes fully that the stars and planets do have a certain 'spiritual' rule over aspects of our lives. He is VERY knowledgeable on this topic and even does readings for people who ask. He is more than willing to share his knowledge with others too and has held some popular astrology classes.

---> Reading // Pluto would be nowhere without his love of reading. He started to read at a very early age (younger than most even) and hasn't stopped since. Reading means so much to this gentle kalon, it is a place of escapism when he needs it and learning when he wants it. He has an entire library room filled with a countless number of books at his very own home. Many are dazzled by his impressive collection. If the local library doesn't have the book you are looking for - it's likely Pluto does.

---> Crafting/DIY // One of his more lesser known, yet still highly loved hobby is that of crafting, artwork and DIY. It doesn't matter what kind of craft or art it is. Pluto loves to draw, write, sew, felt, knit. A lot of his presents or birthdays and the like are all handmade - with love of course. He is actually quite skilled at many of these things, with a lot of family or friends asking him to help with their new Ikea builds. Pluto can have them up in a jiffy! When he's just looking for some down time and needs a break, Pluto will turn to crafting.

Occupation

Pluto is a full time astronomer at his local and award winning planetarium and observatory. He started off as a volunteer at the establishment and slowly but very surely made it all the way to the top. He's now one of the planetarium's top astronomers but he will still take time out of his day to help with some of the 'lesser duty' tasks with the volunteer staff. One of Pluto's favourite jobs in his workplace is when he gets to take a class for younger students on the solar system. The awe in their faces as the watch the observatory roof light up in stars and planets really feeds the souls of all who work their and teaching others about what he loves most is not a bad job to have at all.

Name: Halley
Gender: Male
Breed: Orchid Mantis

One night while walking home
from the planetarium, Pluto got
a phone call from a close friend.
She said that her friend had a
companion that needed rehomed
asap. Pluto was never really the
one for pets at all... he was
actually surprised that she had
rang him. But nevertheless, he
went to see if he could help. To
his surprise, when he saw the little
orchid mantis - the first one he had
ever saw, he fell in love. He just had
to take him since the lil' guy looked
identical to his favourite kind of flower.
He now knew why his friend rang him.
Pluto named the mantis Halley, after the
comet and from the day Pluto took Halley
home, the pair have been inseparable.

    The Nickname
Many people seem to think that Pluto was very naturally and rightfully picked for Pluto from the very beginning. It derives perfectly from his full name - Plutine, and it fits his astronomic love perfectly. That however, was not the case at all. When Pluto was still very young, his original nickname was simply 'Plu' or sometimes 'Tiny' (as he was a tiny baby). It wasn't until Pluto really began to show his love for astronomy and all things planets and stars when he got his now widely used nickname of 'Pluto'. Many would think this just happened naturally as his love for the sky grew, but that was exactly the case. Pluto had a huge love for the planet Pluto when he first discovered it in one of his books. He was so intrigued by the small, lonely, far off planet that whenever it was announced that it was no longer a planet he actually cried. So his parents began to call him Pluto after the planet and Pluto really enjoyed this idea of being named after his favourite one. The name stuck, soon his friends and further relatives began using to it - to this very day indeed. Pluto doesn't seem to have the intense love for the planet that he used to - but that is just a front, don't be fooled by Pluto's calm act, his love for the dwarf planet is like no other making his nickname surely fit, even now.

    His Birthday
      September 1st 1986 (Age 34)

    His Star Sign
      Virgo // Earth Sign

    Does his Zodiac suit him?
Pluto would say yes, absolutely. He finds himself to be all the typical 'Virgo' traits - Loyal, hardworking, practical and kind, and if you look deeper into his full chart he would say that it suits him to a tee, but that is much to extensive to get into at the moment, he could ramble on for hours about that. He believes everyone's zodiac suits them in some sort of way, even if they don't believe it themselves.
