Prompt: Sun Walkers nightmares are of the past which she does not speak of - of metal cages and howling dogs, of kittens with no mothers and mothers with no kits. Of a cold, grey place that stinks of chemicals and fear, of no-furs gawking, pointing and prodding at the animals on display. Logically, she knows that she's safe - she escaped long ago, pure luck and chance landing her on the ranch with the others, but it doesn't ease her restless mind when the witching hour brings forth her dreams. But she doesn't have to share the burden alone - there's no cold, slick floor here, no empty nest - just the warm flanks of her den mates pressing soothingly against her side when she wakes, soft snores and steady breathing to lull her back to sleep. No longer is she in that place, wondering if she'll ever have a home again - she has one now, one she created herself, and it's all she needs.

Crimsonpetal could still hear the yowl of warning that the camp was being invaded as they awoke. They dug their claws into their nest as they gasped and looked around. Around them were the faces from their nightmare peacefully sleeping. They shakenly padded outside of the cave to look out at the camp. They expected to see evidence of the raid that occurred in their dream but all was normal, especially the Leader and Deputy, the stars of their sleepless torment. Crimsonpetal feels the rising tension between the two and fears that their dreams will become reality.

She was running through the fen at top speed yet somehow she felt like she was hardly moving at all. She wasn't sure what she was running from but she felt the fear coursing through her and the tremble of her tail. She had to move faster. To her dismay, her speed only seemed to slow with each step. Her paws were sinking deeper and deeper in the mud with each step. Soon she felt herself trapped as she sank into the mud up to her shoulders, her tail strained itself to stay above ground. The more she struggled, the deeper she sank and the faster the steps approached her. As her face was finally covered in mud, with her last glimpse of the world above, she saw the face of the cat standing above her. The bright green gaze.

Bloodroot startled awake and looked at her tail, which seemed just as fearful as she felt. She gave her tail a few comforting licks as the voice in the back of her head warned her: Beware the green gaze and whatever you do, don't get swallowed by the fen.

A quick footed cat, slim and sleek, chases after a mouse. Her attempts appear unsuccessful, yet she is in no mood for mistakes. Sweeping her paws under the mouse, she pins it down. “Finally, you fox-dung” she speaks. It had been moons of the same dream, over and over again. The same dream of a mouse running away from her. None ever escaped her grasp but the one she fears in her dreams.

Without a second to think it over, the mouse escapes her paws once again. It appears to laugh when it has reached its den.

And that, my dear reader, is when our cat wakes once more.

“Stupid mouse...” she grumbled. This same dream has been repeating in her head for moons now with no sign of stopping. When she confronted Raven’s Feather about her issues he said she was just being overdramatic. That she, “thought she wasn’t good enough”. But is that really it? Perhaps one more try, one more time and she’ll get it.

Sun sleeps. It takes no time at all to enter her imprisoned mind. This time, this time she will catch the mouse.

And she does. One paw was all it took. This feeling felt strange. Why was it so easy? Was it because she believed?

That’s when the monster crawled from the mouse’s body. That’s when her thoughts took over.
