Prompt: Shadow was scared of Monsters. No, not the hide under the blanket or cuddle against your mom cause there's monsters in the shadows, but Monsters, the big metal creatures that shine bright lights in front of them and your housefolk cage you inside them. He wasn't always scared of them, he has once been a fearless kitten who went boldly from place to place without thought. That all changed the night he snuck out of the yard at 7 moons old. He'd gone to visit his friend across the road and didn't see the Monster coming because it's bright eyes were closed and there were always Monster noises coming and going where he lived. It wasn't until it was close enough that he saw the shine of the dim street lights on the Monster that he saw it and then it was too late. He woke up at the Cutter, in immense pain and covered in something that wouldn't let him move. He recovered but gained a limp and got jumpy each time he saw or heard a Monster nearby. He never knew when one would wake up or veer off it's path to chase and eat him. He was much relieved when he escaped into the wilderness, where he would never have to see or hear a Monster again.

Ngondá (Moon) is a cat not fazed by many things. His job as a “death priest” (full title under rank) means seeing many things that may scare others, in fact, he was partially chosen because of his inability to be scared easily. However, this does not mean he can’t feel fear...

If you gave Ngondá some time he might come up with a more abstract fear but on the spot his immediate reaction would be, “the ossifrages” which would be followed by some looking at the sky warily. The species is technically called the bearded vulture but the name ossifrages was given to them since it literally means bone breaker. They don’t pose a threat to the cats when alive since they mostly scavenge instead their danger is for the dead.

Burial and death rituals are a very serious matter within the clan and some of the dead are not buried but instead placed posed in a cave once they are fully a skeleton. This practice is usually reserved for past leaders and other higher ups. Great care is put in by the death priest for these preparations and decorating the dead.

The ossifrages if led into the cave could wreck havoc. They eat the bones of animals, more specifically the marrow. They shatter bones when they find them to get their meal and this would absolutely ruin the graves. Leaders of the past could be destroyed. As the cat in charge of all things death related this would be the absolute worst case scenario imaginable.

Luckily they are rarely seen in the area and have never been spotted near the cave (they like easy carcasses in the open) and there are assigned guards yet Ngondá will still get goosebumps at the thought.


Note: these are REAL and absolutely terrifying, their diet is roughly 90% bone and ossifrages is an actual name given to them

Blackdusk is afraid of most things, but they're especially afraid of cockroaches. They think that the bugs are really creepy with their huge bodies and the thick exoskeleton they have, which makes them indestructible. Not that the cat would be able to kill a cockroach - they freeze in fear whenever they see one and yell for help. Luckily, there's not many in the forest and Blackdusk only saw the majority of the cockroaches in their old Twoleg home. That was the main reason they left and decided to try living in the wild, as afraid they are of everything around them.

The cool night air whipped Cloudydawn's long fur back, tussling it roughly. The wind shrieked and howled and rain poured from the sky. Distantly, thunder rumbling ominously. All were asleep, except for Cloudydawn, who never could be told not to do something, and therefore was never in her nest when it stormed this late at night. She as an adult! She knew how to keep herself safe.

The black molly traipsed through the slink underbrush, laughing as her paws splashed into puddles as big as she was. Cloudydawn raced through the mud, following a familiar path further and further uphill. Finally, she reached the peak of a sheer cliff overlooking the ocean. The wind was even stronger here, whipping her fur this way and that. The ocean rolled and roared beneath her. She raised her face to the sky, relishing the rain and open air.

"Cloudydawn!"

The black molly flinched and quickly turned around. She could just barely make out her Amberbloom's round shape trudging out of the rainforest. They were drenched to their bones, covered in mud, and decidedly much less happy than she was.

"What?" Cloudydawn mewed coyly. The rain felt colder now.

"You know what!" Amberbloom snapped. "I thought we talked about this."

"I thought I told you I would be fine." Cloudydawn retorted. "I can ta-"

Suddenly, the earth beneath her paws, already so thin and made even more so by the pelting rain, crumbled. Cloudydawn gasped, clawing desperately at the air as she fell back. The next few seconds were a blur - she saw Amberbloom's eyes widen in shock, then felt teeth around her scruff, then felt the slight pain of teeth vanish as her paws were met with solid ground.

Cloudydawn panted, digging her claws into the earth. What just happened? She was falling, she was falling and then someone saved her. Amberbloom. Her heart leapt to her throat. Cloudydawn looked up.

She was alone.

"Amberbloom!" She shakily rose to her paws, dread settling heavily in her stomach. She whipped around, staring off the edge of the cliff, where she had been just seconds before. "Amberbloom!"

Only the roar of the waves answered.


Cloudydawn woke with a gasp. She sat up quickly, tearing her nest up and kicking poor Amberbloom quite a few times in the process. The ginger cat groaned, rolling over to sleepily look up at her.

"What's wrong?" They murmured.

Cloudydawn stared down at them, eyes wide, half convinced they weren't real. "N-nothing." She settled back down in their nest, pressing her face to Amberbloom's shoulder. "Nothing at all..."
