"Lapwing!" Threar gasped as she noticed his pursuer. The homba's almost on him! I need to do something, or else- the though was cut off as she ran headfirst at the elil. The beast turned in bewilderment as the rabbit crashed into its flank, and its brain took a moment to adjust. But a moment was all she needed; the doe leapt at the fox, her claws striking at its legs. It sounded a furious shriek, whipping around to snap with its narrow muzzle; its jaws were left empty, though, and Threar was soon out of its reach once more. She danced around it, but she was growing weary.

That was when Lapwing intervened; he mimicked her movements as he led the fox away from her, and the two of them took turns distracting their hunter as they approached the clear area of ground that was still thick with flooded earth. The rabbits nodded at one another before pelting out. Threar's muscles burned and she could scarcely breathe, but the pain was far more preferable to becoming fox food; the two's light paws carried them swiftly across the mud, leaving little more than soft imprints in the surface.

The fox, however, was less lucky; its limbs drove through the surface, and it screeched as it sank down, thrashing. It wouldn't be trapped for long, but it was enough to keep the creature at bay for now. Threar and x wasted no time returning to the warren once their scent trail was disguised. But, as they settled into the warm, dry burrow, they noticed just how filthy they were. Mud had spattered their coats as they ran, and Threar's legs in particular were a solid brown. But none of this mattered on the day that the rabbits outsmarted the fox.
