She spreads them, the span of her wings stretching and growing as she took off into the nighttime sky. The wind smoothed her soft feathers, sending ripples that she feels along the silkiness of the wings. The rushing ground moved up to meet with her, but just when she's about to crash she snaps her head up and with a grand flap of her great wings she drifts upward, towards the rising moon. Tired but exhiliarated and elated, she gives a small gasp as she beats her wings once more, and lands neatly back on her perch atop the mountain, staring out across all the valley.

She tires out easily when there's larger gusts of wind, and can't fly for long periods of time without cramps, but Feather loves flying. It's an adventure, with a risk of injury, but it's also a beautiful art and craft that she has been mastering since birth. When she flies, she feels like there's nothing that can stop her, like she's escaping reality.

When i smell the air i feel like it no one but myself. I feel free as a bird. I can't resit to swoop through the treetops and whistle with the beautiful parrots. I feel like my hopes and fears are washed away and i have no responsibly. I like to race through the treetops and collect fruit, there are so many things to pick from! I love seeing the little flowers in the field swaying back and forth, all the rainbow colors swaying across my eyes. Then the wind makes me pick up speed so i head back to the forest where i call home. But i'm not done yet. I fly up again and look at the beautiful sunset at dusk. It makes me feel as someone has taken me into there own house and they tell me to make my self at home.

Flying is... how does one even describe it? Imagine you're standing on the edge of a pool or a lake, right at the edge, and you just tip forwards and dive in. Suddenly, nothing is around you but water, yet you're still moving, and everything is clear and vivid and you feel totally different. You're moving, but touching nothing. You instinctively move a leg in a specific direction a specific way to turn, and you motor your way through a liquid.

Flying is much the same: You take a leap, and let muscle memory do the rest. A feather or two tipped at a slightly different angle, a wingtip brought closer to or farther from the body, a shift in your body weight. It's exhilarating: you feel a rush of wind, a storm of emotion, utter joy. And, depending on the weather, sometimes utter terror. You flap hard, gain height, and shoot downwards in a steep dive, scaring some poor squirrel below as you shoot past them and pull out of the dive mere milliseconds before you hit the ground. There's nothing that compares to the sheer rush of a dive, or the feel of a warm thermal as it raises through your wings lifting you higher, or of a really good technical flip in midair that made all your friends jealous. Absolutely nothing, because the truth is, the only way to really understand flying.... is to fly.
