Shadow Flitz (Singular; Shadow Flit) are a long bodies species that have long since lost their hind legs, tail, and eyes to the power of the shadow and have replaced them with mold-able wispy appendages. these large, friendly beasts have been recently tamed to be ridden by humans and anthros alike. They have large, wide front paws, long pointed ears, and short, smooth fur. They can be naturally found in dark caves, wetlands, or thick forests. however have also been spotted in pastures while hunting. They are carnivores- meaning they are only meant to eat meat and they often prey on birds, deer, rodents, and bats.

Brief character concept || Cailan is has an uncanny love for old folktales and lore. He spends his time gathering any new tales to his growing collection. His favorite tale is of the Kelpie, it's a story that's captivated him since he was little. His favorite location in the world is Ephesus in Turkey, an ancient Roman city. Sitting down with a hot bowl of Green Curry Rice with Salmon, he researches his most recent mystery, "The Incident at Dyatlov Pass".

It doesn't matter where you go,
I'll always be there...
The sky was dark, and lightning flashed. Thunder boomed, and if one was listening closely, they could almost hear a soft whimper, coming from beneath the bed. Luckily, Rilo was listening, and he ducked down to peer underneath. His little sister, Lila*, was cowering down there, paws over her ears.
"Lila?" Rilo whispered as the storm raged. The young flit peeked out at her brother, a sheepish smile on her face.
"Oh, hey, Rilo," she laughed nervously, squeezing out from her hiding place. Rilo smiled.
"Are you hiding?" he asked, an understanding look in his eyes. She gasped, trying to look outraged at the suggestion, but gave up, shrugging in defeat.
"Yeah... I hate thunder. It's so loud!!" she complained, shooting a glare at the storm outside.

Brief character concept ||
You can hear the banging from far away. If you listen, you can also hear that it takes a sort of hypnotic beat. Something draws you towards it. Towards a large, obviously abandoned workshop. The banging is loud now. The beat more obvious. You open the door.

Wind swirls in bringing an abrupt halt to the banging and a Flit brings her head over the side of a large...pirate ship?

"Get out!" she snarls, leaping down with surprising grace. Soon her muzzle is in your face. "Out! You won't remember what you saw here, agreed?"

You blink, but a cuff to your muzzle sends you running. What was she working on that was so...private?

You don't know, but you don't dare tell anyone out of fear of what you know she'll do.

A boy and a girl. A prince and a general's daughter. They were best friends, playing on the fields outside the city by day, counting the stars on rooftops at night, sneaking out to see each other well into the early morning. These two children, destined to hate each other, dreamed of a different future; unaware the choices they'd one day have to make.

A friendship such as that could never survive long, though.
Fate is not so easily called off.

The children were torn apart
from each other, by duty and fate.
When they met again years later,
all memories of their friendship
had become cold and bitter.

The boy was the only surviving heir to the throne, one of five siblings, but the only one to make it past the age of ten. It was said the royal family was cursed, and indeed, despite the fact that prince survived, his life was not without hardships.

For a long while, he had trouble fitting into society, making friends. He'd escape from the confines of the palace at every possible moment to play in the village - with his friend, the girl. Then one day, the boy's escapades were discovered by his father. The girl was taken away from him.

Life went on.

At the age of fifteen, assassins came to his room and tried to kill him. The boy survived. At the age of eighteen, the boy's hunting party was massacred miles from civilization, and the boy stranded out in a blizzard. Once again, he managed to survive only by the skin of his teeth, but the consequences were far more deadly than one would assume - the men who had come after his party had slashed him with a blade before he managed to escape them. It should have been a minor wound, but poison had coated the crude weapon.

He was rescued too late for anything to be done about it. The only thing they could do was stave off its affects for as long as possible. He survived.

At the age of twenty, the prince was engaged to a princess from a neighboring kingdom. She was killed while visiting him for the first time. Assassinated, in her sleep.

of a terrible crime,
one that he truly believed she had committed -
one that she swore she did not -
Her cries of innocence fell on his ears.
The boy killed her himself.
Or at least, he thought he did.
