Name: Venus
Gender: Female
Prompt: It started out as a calm night. Only ocean waves and salty air. The full moon hung over the ocean and ghost crabs scurried across the sand as she walked. Venus came to a sudden stop when she saw another rawr further down the beach. The light blue rawr didn't show any signs of noticing her but Venus knew something was wrong. She wore a blank expression, and when Venus called out she just kept staring out into the ocean. "Hello?" Venus called out again. The rawr took off into the waves. Venus watched, stunned. That was strange... it took her a second to realize that the rawr wasn't swimming, just simply flailing around in the ocean. She was still immensely confused as she ran out to save her. Battling the harsh, cold waves, Venus fought her way toward the rawr. The ocean seemed to fight against her. It was as if it was trying to challenge her on purpose. The water filled her lungs and numbed her body. She fought on. She finally got close enough to grab the stranger and drag her back to land. She stumbled onto the beach, sputtering, and collapsed when she got far enough away from the water. All she wanted to do was fall asleep there in the sand. She forced herself to get up, to dry them both off and check if the other rawr was okay.

The rawr came back to the beach ever day after. Venus never figured out what made her do such a thing. She didn't even tell her that she was the one who saved her. All Venus knew was that both of them had been changed by the experience.

(The featured rawr is Nerida, who remembers walking out into the ocean, seeing the spirits of her siblings, and waking up on the beach the next morning)

Name: Fatal
Gender: Female
Prompt: A brisk wind kicked leafs up off the ground making them dance in the moonlight. Fatal loved evening walks like this, the moon a perfect crescent. ‘How is it that I haven’t been scolded yet?’ She thought to herself, crunching leafs under her feet. She followed the train tracks to her shelter she built for herself ready to curl up under the stars, but something stopped her! A faint whimper sounded off in the distance, Fatal listened closer.. ‘it must have been my imagination...’ she thought to herself, circling her makeshift bed of fresh grass and leafs.
“Help!” Sounded the whimper, closet this time. Fatal jumped to her feet, there was definitely someone out there.
“I’m coming,” She shouted hoping the creature in need could hear her “I’ll be right there!”
She ran and ran through the overgrown woods cutting herself on thorns and sharp twigs. She stopped dead in her tracks to listen again, complete silence swallowed her, ‘I hope they didn’t... no, don’t think like that.’ Sighed Fatal. She took a few steps forward before the cry sounded again. She bolted toward the noise that was only a short distance away from her.
“I’m down here!” Crid the voice
Fatal peered down a burrough to find a fox kit that had gotten stuck.
“I’ll get you out, just hold on, don’t panic!” Fatal breathed, winded by the journey. She quickly searched the area finding moss and vines. The fastened the moss around the vines thinking to herself ‘not only will this get the kit out, but also make for a much better bed!’ She threw the “rope” down to the fox kit and pulled up the poor thing, hugging it as it reached the surface.
“You’re shaking!” Fatal blinked, this fox wasn’t a kit at all but looked the same age as her! ‘That must have been a really deep hole, she probably dug too deep and too vertical so by the time she was done she wasn’t able to get out.’ Fatal made it a habit to come up with her own conclusions.
“I thought I was... I thought...” the fox began to sob
“Dont cry, please don’t cry! You’re safe now.”

Name: xena s. fireflies
Gender: demigirl (she/them)
Prompt: Once upon a time there was a girl named xena. She loved fireflies, and how they would float around on warm summer nights flashing their beautiful twinkly lights. On one particular evening such as this, one particular firefly alighted on her paw. She studied it closely, its small shiny eyes and long sleek body. She waited for it to fly away, but it did not. She peered closer, and found that it had fallen asleep. She softly cooed a lullabye, the only one she knew, to its tiny sleeping form (This is what she sang). At that very moment, a toad began croaking somewhere. Xena knew that she couldn't leave the firefly alone out there, where the dangers were fierce for a small firefly, so she carried the small insect into her little home, made it a tiny bed out of a cottonball, and curled around it to sleep herself. The firefly still lives with her to this very day. The end.
