Kalons-- a species with soft manes and even softer hearts.

Monitored in forests across the globe for years, these animals
have recently been declared naturally tame as well as sapient.
Scientists are asking the general population to consider adopting
Kalons for further study in their capabilities of intelligence.

Their shining tails are used for identification and showing off,
which is helpful when spotting another Kalon from afar. This
association with other Kalons is why they are head-over-heels
for any shiny or colorful item that they come across!

Not particularly inspired by anything- just kinda chose a palette and rolled with it- if anything, loosely inspired by a novel I'm reading- not really referencing it, just subtle homages from little things in it since I have it on the brain

The words played over in his mind, tumbling and echoing and racketing into a deafening racket he couldn’t control, something so simple which would tip him over the edge, threaten to destroy him.
“I’m sorry. It’s not your fault.”
It was his fault. For as long as he loves and as long as he lives it will forever be his fault. He wasn’t enough- never enough. Always falling short, always disappointing, always failing.
Kodak stared through the kalon in front of him- who they were didn’t matter anymore- lover, boss, mother. He had failed them. Just as he had failed everyone else. Just as he had failed himself yet again- the thought of which tore him apart and flayed him. The roaring tides which plagued his thoughts doggedly pursued his quiet, happy, island. Ruinous, unforgiving, unending... he had failed. He always failed in the end- his worst fear was always no more than a whisker away- it tracked him and decimated him- failure is the hunter and he the prey.
“No... I’m sorry.” He mumbled, shuffling past the figure in front of him to dissipate once again into the crowds as another nobody.

Deepest fear;; He fears being discovered and viewed as something he's not. As a child he was told to be something that could guarantee success. His parents would constantly tell him to do better when he was in school, after all, getting a "C-" in calculus was unacceptable. He had to be successful, to hold up his parent's reputation. He desperately fears people being able to see through the cracks in his disguise, the creative thoughts scrawling themselves in between graphs and diagrams. He tells his brain to fill in the proper answer rather than something to create a design the world may not have seen before. No, he had to be a success, a prodigy sculpted out of clay. Grey matter folding over a gem meant to follow a different path, something that didn't always lead to security, something dangerous. If he took that path then he wouldn't have a fallback, then everything that happened would be his own fault. One foot moved forward, a form escaped from his pen as he began to write. The lines twisted together, forming a shield, something to protect him from the world. Beside it was a cage, where his soul was destined to reside. (200 / 200)

Charcoal's head broke the surface of the water, and he choked as he gasped for breath. The thunder echoed in his ears, and rain pounded on his head. Seaweed strands twisted around his legs, threatening to pull him back into the abyss.

"Charcoal!"

The kalon snapped his neck to attention, seeking the source of the call. He gasped as the spotted where the sound was coming from. It was his younger sister, Jade. Her head was dangerously close to dipping under the water, and her eyes were wild and panicked.

"Jade!" Charcoal barked as he began to thrash his legs. "I-I'm coming to save you!" The harsh wind blew against his face as he dove forwards- but alas, it was too late.

The last thing Charcoal saw was her terrified expression as a wave crashed down on Jade. When the water leveled, his dear sister was nowhere to be seen.

Charcoal has been scared of rain and anything to do with water to this day.

small children.
liam hates small children.

once upon a time, in a store not too far from his house, liam had gone grocery shopping for some milk. walking along the isles looking for the darned produce and dairy section of the store, a woman and her freakishly small child passed him. the child's eyes shown with the burning fury of screaming for chocolate and messy colored drawings. liam would shudder with true terror at the midget human as he stared back at the kalon. the child would open it's mouth, turn to it's mother, and begin it's unholy screeching. liam would flinch at it's screams, his ears flattening against his head to block out as much of the sound as he could. he'd scooch to the side, grabbing hold of a single milk carton. he slowly, veerrryy slowly, inched farther away from the baby man as it clung to it's mothers leg. he'd wonder why the woman would not stop the child, it's as if it's screams were orders of some sort. from then on, liam had believed babies were the overlords of humans.

he ain't getting caught up in that flip.

What is their deepest fear?;; Bailey is terrified of being bored. Finding life, finding himself boring or stale or uninteresting. Because of this, he's constantly moving and changing and learning and experiencing new and, sometimes, dangerous things. He's constantly trying to be the center of attention by being immature and attracting the wrong crowd, but he can't see the danger his peers put him in through the haze of feeling like he's wanted. Even if that feeling wont last.
