This could be quite literly in terms of travel or in terms of their struggles/sacrfices.

answer: looking back i see how far i've come. i was sheltered, with everything i could need at my feet. the only thing i didn't have was my freedom because even though i had everything i was still a prisoner to myself. i kept myself unaware i wanted to stay oblivious to the cold world outside. however i was given a push and i faced that world, at first alone but soon with friends by my side. i saw both good and bad, but i know that i'll never return to that life in which i came from because i'm now free.

I've never had a lot.
I was raised in a small suburban neighborhood for the most part.
It wasn't a very nice place, but at least it was something.
There weren't many viscets who lived around there, but I was still happy.
We were living on the streets, scrounging off of anything we had.
My parents told me that I would've hatched as a rich snob if we hadn't lost it all
before I "decided to pop my little head out of that egg", haha.

After a few years, we found a new place to live.
A beautiful forest! It was so wonderful!
It was right next to a peanut farm.
My father managed to convince the sheepdog to lend
us some peanuts every week!
It was so much better than the village.
We learned how to make peanut butter and lots of other yummy things!
Life was good.

But one day, I was about 14,
there was a booming loud noise!
A tree fell.
Then another, and another.
It was like our perfect life was falling to pieces!
Turns out they needed more farmland to plant peanuts.
How dare they! That was all we had!
The whole forest was flattened, just to be replaced with more crops.
How insulting.
We had to evacuate.

We ended up in a rich snob town.
Nobody would help us.
Nobody would even look at us sympathetically!
It disgusts me to think about it!
Birds tried to eat us alive!
OK, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit,
but pigeons really wouldn't stop pecking us!
After a year of scrounging for food, shelter, etc.
Someone noticed us.
He gave us food, water and shelter.
He never told us his name, but he was a human.
Being curious, I followed him home.
He didn't appreciate this.
I ended up getting yelled at and chased away.
Well, away is what he thought, at least.
I convinced him, with my sad sad eyes, to take care of me and my family more
He ended up using his car to drive us out to a new, far more beautiful forest than the old one.
It was wonderful!
I licked his hand in thanks, and ran off with my family.
We built a new den, and stayed there.
For once in our life, we felt secure.

These days, I still live in the forest.
I found out it's protected land.
I'm so glad I got such a wonderful life.

I've come a long way.
