Halloween Routine::

Children run through the crowded streets, each batch of costumed visclings knocking on doors with a chorus of "Trick or Treat!" The moon is high in the cloudless sky, nothing to frame the full moon that happened to coincide with this year's holiday. Laughter is around every corner, adults with glasses clinking and whispered bargains being struck between children as they trade around treats. Everyone’s having fun, save for one viscet, who walks with purpose down the dirt-packed road to the forest where the path he follows slowly gives way to leaves and twigs.

A deep breath in and out sends bluish embers flying through the air, sparkling on the breeze and dulling before they hit the ground. Brennen continues on his way, leaving his soft trail of glowing light behind him as he heads off the path into the shadows. The trees seem to grow more sickly the further he goes, the branches bare, the trunks grey, and the whole tree looking more and more gnarled towards the top. The shadows that have accompanied him since he set foot off the trail swirl and flee before him and his armor of fire and embers.

Minutes pass and more shadows appear at the edges of the light he casts around him. Brennen ignores the shadows that follow him, paying them no mind, stopping only once he's reached a clearing with a single white birch in the center, barely taller than Brennen himself.

The shadows that had been trailing him thus far stop suddenly at the edges of the clearing, seeming to watch hesitantly as Brennen approaches the stark tree, its shadow moving too much and with too much intent to be just a tree's shadow. But he isn't afraid of these shadows, isn't unnerved by them. He knows what they are, he knows what they want, and he feels for them in a way that borders on parental.

His armor glows softly as a breeze passes by, stoking the fires within, but with that flare, the shadow arches back ready to lash out. Before the shadow can though, Brennen sets down a pumpkin, carved with a goofy face and filled to the brim with candies and chocolates and treats of all kinds. He watches for a moment, sees the shadow as it cautiously billows forward and engulfs the pumpkin. It looks almost happy in a way that perhaps was just a trick of the moonlight.

The lost soul appeased, Brennen turns to go back the way he came, the shadows that had trailed him already moving forward to investigate. "Happy Halloween, little ones. Be sure to share your treats, alright?" And with that he is back on the path to the town once more, embers floating gently on the wind.
