Wow would you look at that, 20 katkins!! I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see how far they've come in such a short amount of time <3
As promised, #20 features two rare characteristics: multi tail and colored sclera. This special kat will have a special competition to go along with it. In order to win, you must write me a story including:
>> their career path,
>> beast creatures, &
>> another katkin of your choice.
In addition to this you must include a piece of art related to your story that features this katkin, drawn by you or someone else.
No extras are permitted, but you may pretty up your form as long as it does not include more pieces of artwork.
This competition will end in 3 weeks on October 20th. Good luck! <3

Username: CreativeName: LintikGender: MaleCareer path: Corps (aiming for Ranger)Story:The trees loomed overhead, blocking out most of the sun and bathing the foot-beaten trail in scattered speckles of light. The sky was almost cloudless, just a few puffy cotton clouds drifted lazily above. By all accounts the day was beautiful and Lintik took his time walking the patrol route, reveling in how his dark fur soaked up the sun and felt like being wrapped in a blanket. Even his pet companion Ash was looking a little more sluggish this afternoon as he padded next to the ranger-in-training.
As the two walked the well worn path, they could hear the skittering and scurrying of little paws from squirrel-ish and rabbit-ish creatures, though Ash was made lazy by the relaxing warmth on his fur and made no move to chase them as he normally would. Lintik caught sight of a bushy tail, a stark white among the greenery, just for a flash before it was darting into it's burrow. Though the katkin would never think about hurting a little creature in any way, he knew that Ash was a predator, and though well trained, he wasn't domestic.
Domesticity came from generations and generations of breeding for the right temperament, of living closely together. Ash was a wolf-weasel, found as a barely weeks old pup by Lintik in his teenaged years right before his Corps training began. A beast had attacked, trampling burrows and knocking aside trees in a rampage of hate and spite and no other good reason at all. From the rubble of a upturned tree, Lintik had heard the confused, panicked crying of a pup and ran in without much thinking, grabbed the scruff of its neck, and held it close to him as he sprinted home with a beast hot on his tails until it caught sight of easier prey and veered off. Of course, Lintik put in the report of a rampaging beast off the foraging trails, but after the commotion calmed down, he was left at a loss of what to do with the still crying pup.
In the end, he ended up keeping him, training him to listen to commands, to hold and go and attack the very same beasts that had ruined the pup's home. Lintik named him Ash, thinking himself clever since Ash would have be somewhat risen from ashes, or at least rubble, like a phoenix. Except with a much better name than just the corny and overly predictable name of Phoenix. At least he thought so anyway.
He had to wonder as the two to-be rangers walked the patrol, if Ash remembered any of how he was found. Of why Lintik raised him. He shook himself from his thoughts as Ash's ears perked up more attentively, walking with more purpose in the direction of a noise. It only took another moment before Lintik heard it too. Music. Delightful, cheerful melodies carried on the wind accompanied by beautiful singing, as light as a bird twittering in the new dawn. Curious and intent to do his job and check on any other katkin they came across, Lintik followed Ash and the sound of the music to a little meadow.
The sounds of the songs came from up a tree and shielding his eyes from the sun, he looked up to see a blue manx blissfully unaware of anything around her save the birds in the tree around her and her song. Though Lintik was hesitant to interrupt her, he smiled pleasantly and waved with his free hand as he called to her from the ground, "Hello there! I'm with the Corps regiment, making patrols of the paths, and wanted to make sure you were aware of the beast that's reported to be in the area. That's a lovely song, by the way, as well!"
From her perch, the manx startled a tad, looking down sheepishly, "Oh! Hello! Um, I didn't hear about the beast sighting... It's safe around here, though, right?" She seemed to brighten a bit as she caught sight of Ash sitting by Lintik's side, tail thumping on the ground, "Aww, what a cutie!" she cooed. Ash gave a prideful bark in response, recognizing when he was being fawned over.
Lintik patted Ash's head, "His name's Ash, he's friendly if you want to come down and pet him. But as the for the beast, you should be fine. The sighting was on the other side of the trail, but we've been patrolling all the trails this side of the village to be safe. I just wanted to make sure you were aware, better than being caught unprepared after all."
The manx katkin in the tree put her guitar away, firmly securing it to her back as she began to climb down from the tree to take up the offer to pet the cutest wolf-weasel she'd ever seen. But as luck would have it, it was at that moment that birds took off from the trees around the meadow, even flying away from the one the blue katkin was in. Everything went still. Ash immediately was on his feet, fur on his neck and shoulders bristling as he looked around and waited. Lintik was immediately on guard, the quiet and the fact that any creature able was fleeing the sight. He hda been trained for this. A beast was approaching.
"Get back up into the tree, stay still and quiet. Don't panic, everything will be fine, but get as high into the tree as you can," he hissed the instructions quietly, quickly, paw already on his weapon. Waiting.
It felt like an eternity wrapped within the confines of only a minute, before the ground was vibrating. A screech, so high pitched and almost unnatural, it stole away the breath of the manx in the tree. Even Lintik, though trained for combat against beasts, was having to remind himself to take deep calming breaths as he unsheathed his sword. Almost as soon as he did, a large boar-like beast charged into the meadow, aiming straight for Lintik and Ash, as targeted on them as an arrow loosed from a bow. Lintik leaped away, as Ash dodged to the side before clamping his jaws onto one of the beast's legs, biting down with all the force he could muster, trying to hinder it.
With a cry, the boar-beast shook the creature free, throwing Ash a few feet away where he landed hard on his side. The boar-beast was already favoring the leg, though it seemed to be even angrier than only moments ago, snorting aggressively and focusing its piercing red eyes on Lintik, the glinting of the sword in the sunshine catching it's ire. Again it charged Lintik, bellowing out a cry so
loud that it was hard to not drop his sword to cover his ears. He stood his ground until the last second, twisting to the right and slashing the beast's good front leg that was bearing most its weight, causing it to stumble and trip over itself, it's front digging into the ground as it skid along.
Shakily it stood, and with its front two legs injured, charged into the treeline once more, Ash making a beeline for him, nipping at the beast's heels, spurring the quickening retreat. The beast was leaving to continue this fight another day, though helped into that decision by Ash.
Lintik waited, watching the woods it had disappeared into, waiting for some sign to see if the beast was still lurking, waiting for an opportunity to return while they were unaware, but soon the stillness passed, and birds were once against tweeting, scurrying paws again were heard in the underbrush. Ash stayed growling where he had ceased his chase for another moment, before huffing and returning to Lintik's side. The battle was won, even if the war continued.
Lintik let out a breath, relieved that this particular beast had been chased away so easily, knowing that that was a rare feat. They needed to leave before it decided to test its luck against the pair again. Lintik sheathed his sword and casually walked to the tree's trunk, knowing that though they needed to hurry and return to the village, it wouldn't do to panic the katkin in the tree. "The beast is gone, it's safe once more. We should return to the village though, I need to report this. I'd feel much better if you'd allow me to escort you there, miss."
A head poked out from a particularly densely leaved branch, "It's gone?" she squeaked. With a confirming nod from Lintik, she carefully began the climb down.
"Would you mind terribly if I escorted you back to town...?"
The katkin shook her head, though kept glancing at the treeline.
"Don't worry, it's gone. I'll keep you safe, alright? My name's Lintik, and I already introduced you to Ash. Sorry your music had to be interrupted like this... Perhaps I could buy you a cupcake to make up for the trouble?" The more casually he acted about the situation, generally the more at ease it tended to put katkins he helped. If he was unconcerned, then usually the others were less likely to panic as well.
"I'm Rain. I think I'd like that," she returned the smile Lintik gave her.

Here's an exchange I just had with a user that you all might find helpful:
do i have to use someone elses katkin or can i just make an npc for this story ?
Answer:
I had originally hoped you guys would choose already existing katkins, but I suppose if you can't find one to use that fits into your story then you can make an NPC.
