Quintillion "Quin" Patrick Lee
"noun - quintillion. 1. a cardinal number represented in the
US by 1 followed by 18 zeros, and in Great Britain by 1 followed by 30 zeros." - dictionary.com
gender | male (
DMAB)
if you were a plant... | "
I'D be a venus flytrap, because they're really cool and they have these huge jaws with big teeth and they're scary and cool and not scared of anything and they're dangerous and I like them a lot. At least they're not some boring flower which just sits there and does nothing, they actually do stuff and they eat these huge insects and stuff and aren't there just to look nice."

LET'S . TALK . ABOUT . THE . SEASONS
what's your favourite season? | "I like summer the best. Not as much right in the middle what it's too hot, but I like it at the start and the end when it's hot enough to do cool stuff but not too hot so you get really tired and sweaty, y'know? I like it because it means you can go outside and do all sorts of things and play and run and jump and not be too cold while you do it but not be too hot either, if it's right at the start or the end. We go outside a lot, and I don't like it when I get really hot or really cold."
show me | [image to the right, click for a larger view]
what's going on in that picture? | "
THAT'S some people going cliff diving... About to, anyway. It's where you go to a cliff and you jump off into the sea, and it's pretty cool. The cliff they're on is small, though, I've jumped off cliffs ten billion times higher. They're just cowards."
why is that specific to summer? | "BECAUSE you have to be stupid to do it in winter or anything. The water's not that cold in summer but you'd freeze if you did it when it was colder because the sea gets really cold sometimes. So you gotta do it in summer or it wouldn't be good."
is that what you like to do in summer? |"
YEAH! Well, some of it. I like cliff diving because it's like... I think it's called a 'rush' or something. What that means is you do cool stuff and it makes you get really excited and happy and things. Anyway, I like it because of that, and I go cliff diving every summer at this one cliff at the seaside which is my favourite, and you feel like you're flying because you're in the sky and it's really awesome. I always climb the highest and jump the best! One day I'm going to do it like they do on TV. Other than that, I also like going climbing and running and cycling and doing tricks and scary stuff like climbing right to the top of a building like I did last year and scared lots of people. And it's all stuff I do at summer because summer's the best. I actually met Chase when I was cliff diving one summer and we've done it every year since then because we're the coolest. Chase is cool, too."
hey, that's not your mom, is it?* | "
WHAT, no! Chase? That's disgusting."
IT was a late summer’s afternoon, the kind during which the weather is calm, particularly in contrast to the atmosphere. The small coastal town which had been desolate only months ago was now alive with tourists and sports players alike, all of whom stood and talked and ran under the glory of the rugged, towering cliffs which stood like a king to this corner of the Earth. Everywhere was noise and people and activity, the very picture of hell for an introvert but of some form of earthly heaven for Chase, who strode with no small swagger towards the end of land.
Given her meagre height of five-feet-and-two-inches, the mass of people seemed to engulf her, backpack and all, which cut off her vision of anything beyond the people directly in front of her. In spite of this, the flannel-clad teen made her way on with an undeniable stubbornness about her, stopping only when there came a gap in the crowd which revealed to her a small child of no more than eight who stood fully clothed in a t-shirt and shorts on the edge of the cliff, apparently about to jump.
When she needs to be, the small bean can be fast and agile, and this is exactly what she summoned from within herself at that moment, as she ran towards the child, blind to the danger of running towards a cliff edge. Managing to stop her movement just behind the younger bean, Chase reached out with both arms, grabbing the child and pulling them back, lowering herself to one knee as she did so.
The child started at the feeling of being grabbed without warning, but immediately steeled himself, preparing to be told ‘no’ by yet another useless grown-up. The arms around him loosened after a moment, allowing him to turn within them. Upon doing this, he was greeted by the somewhat concerned-looking face of a cream-coloured bean who was younger than he'd expected: what he'd assumed to be an older bean appeared to be in only her late teens, or early twenties at the most, and he was taller than her while she was kneeled down. Having been about to sigh dramatically and explain that he knew how to cliff dive, the child stopped in his tracks, his mouth open in mid-inhale. At that, the older girl broke into a grin, dropping her arms.
Gonna jump, huh?” She said in a manner which sounded more like a statement than a question. Her voice was sweet, and laced with a southern accent which, even at this point, was emphasised by her dialect. The child pouted in reaction.
I was gon' do it like they done on TV.” He stated with the defeatedness of somebody who knew they were about to be told that they were wrong. To his surprise, the other’s grin only widened.
Sweet! So was I,” explained she, “So you just wait for me, a’right?”
The child opened his mouth to speak, but found that he was speechless. He broke into a slightly shocked smile, nodding enthusiastically. Chase returned this nod, standing up. She'd spotted a stranger on a bench to her right, and, being the overly trusting bean that she is, wandered over, swinging her backpack from her shoulders as she did so. Politely, she asked the stranger to look after the bag for a short while, and had dumped her bag on the bench and turned back to the child before they'd even had a chance to respond.
Returning to the younger bean’s side, she looked over the edge of the cliff and to the waters below. Though relatively calm as was to be expected for this season, the ‘deep teal monster’ - as she'd nicknamed it in her childhood - was throwing up quite the spray, a million tiny diamonds hurled into the air every time a wave slapped into the rock face. She'd done this many times before, starting at what was possibly a younger age than that of her little friend here, but she felt that the least that she could do was ensure that he had something to hold onto and so offered to him one of her hands.
So?” She asked. “You gonna hold my hand or jus’ leave me here?”
In response, the child simply grinned up at her, taking her hand in his own. Chase noted his complete lack of communicated fear, and the fact that he seemed to be rather enjoying himself. As is characteristic for her, she didn't doubt him or his ability in the slightest, and trusted that he'd be fine to jump off of a cliff. Holding up three of the fingers of her free hand in such a way which allowed him to see, she counted down, folding one finger in turn for each number until her hand was in a fist. The two shared a glance, before bending their knees together and taking the leap.
In that instant, they were flying.
The world around them became a blur, everything seeming to soar past the pair in some great effort to reach the clouds. The air whistled in their ears, creating the effect of some form of otherworldly wind which they had not noticed previously, and all which they felt was the freedom of some ethereal flight. Their hands separated mid-jump; after all, it was much easier to dive with two hands, and then both Chase and her new friend were free-falling independently. All they felt was pure adrenaline, watching the water speed closer and closer to them with every moment which passed.
Hardly a breath later, and what seemed like an eternity of falling was cut short by the impact of two bodies on the waves. The world became much more silent as they plunged into the water, being encased in a delicate cocoon of liquid. Everything stung for a moment, as it always does after diving, then Chase surfaced, treading water while she took a breath of air. It appeared, at this moment, that her little friend hadn't reached the surface yet, though Chase didn't worry, figuring that he could probably look after himself. And, proving her right for this moment at the least, it wasn't long before the child's head rose from the water, taking a deep breath. Being smaller and weaker than Chase, he had to fight a little harder to keep his head above the water, but that didn't at all affect the huge grin on his face.
"That was awesome!" He exclaimed excitedly between breaths, not hesitating to splash some of the water at the older bean with one hand. Faking offence, Chase gave her own splash in his direction, raising a laugh from the younger bean, before announcing a contest.
“Race you to the shore!” she declared, setting off there and then, giving the child no chance to have a head start. Being the competitive bean he is, the child sped off after her, though his size did make him much slower than his competition. Surely enough, Chase reached the land quite significantly before her young friend did. Having come second, the child wasted no time in coming up for a reason for this loss, speaking with some level of breathlessness even as he began to take his first steps out of the water, his wet clothes clinging to him.
“No fair! I would have totally beat you because I'm faster but you cheated! You didn't even say about it ‘til you was halfway there already!” He huffed, pouting. To this, Chase just laughed, choosing to challenge him.
“Yeah? Well I think I’m better, so you'll just have to prove me wrong, huh?”
The younger bean's eyes narrowed slightly as he grinned, glad to have the challenge.
"I will, because I'm really better." He retorted with confidence. Chase smiled, wringing out the bottom of her flannel shirt as she did so.
"Right, right. Anyway," she started, thrusting out a hand for the child to shake, "I'm Chase, what's your name?"
"I uh-" He began, pausing for a moment to shake her hand, put on his best 'I'm-just-an-innocent-child-and-I'm-totally-not-lying' face and soften his voice a little. "I don't know."
"Dang..." Chase said, feeling rather sorry for the little bean and believing his lie without a second thought. Dropping his hand, she shuffled quickly through her recent memories, doing her best to come up with the coolest word she could think of. Almost immediately, she settled on one of the newer additions to her mental dictionary, quite happy with her choice. "Well, then, I'll call you Quintillion. Quin."
The younger bean's eyes widened in response and he grinned happily. "That sounds awesome!"
"Oh, it is – d'you know what a quintillion is?" When Quin shook his head, Chase’s smile widened, glad to be able to show off her knowledge. “Well, a quintillion is a very, very big number. Here, it's a one with eighteen zeros after it – which is big anyway – but in some places, it has thirty zeros. Even a million only has six.”
“Woah… So it's really really big and mega cool and awesome!” The child exclaimed. “I like that name.”
Chase smiled proudly at this. “So, Quin, d’you happen to want ice cream?”
Quintillion gasped happily, beaming. “Yeah!! Ice cream, ice cream!”
“Sweet! We'll have to get my stuff first, a’right?” Chase asked, already setting off in the direction of a crude stone staircase with a rusted banister which led up the cliff face. The cliff wasn't too high – certainly not so much as some – and so the elder bean was able to easily calculate that it shouldn't take the pair long to reach the top.
“Okay! Wait up though, I'm not as big as you!” Cried the younger bean, jogging after Chase. Still determined to prove that he was better than she was, Quin raced straight past her, aiming to reach the top before she did. Noticing this, Chase sped up a little, jogging up a few stairs but returning to a fast walk for the remainder of the climb. As she stepped onto the top of the cliff once more, a rather out of breath Quin began chant and jump.
“I beat you! I beat you!”
“Aw man, that means I'm a loser then, huh?” Asked Chase, continuing on in the direction of the bench. Luckily, the stranger apparently hadn't walked off with her bag.
“Yeah!” Quin exclaimed, following on beside her “You lost! See? I’m really the best!”
“Maybe,” Chase responded, “But I'm not convinced.”
Here, she stopped speaking having reached the stranger with whom she'd left her bag, so as to thank them and collect it. Quin waited impatiently until the moment the older bean had started to turn away from the bench.
“No fair! I won, so I'm better!” he complained.
“Yeah, sure, but I know I'll win next time,” Chase said, “So I'm not convinced. Try beat me if you think you can, I'll show you.”
Apparently exasperated, Quin crossed his arms. “Fine, but I will win because I'm a Quintrillion and I'm cool and I'm also the best.”
“We'll see ‘bout that – and, psst,” she stage-whispered, “You mean Quintillion”
“Same thing, though.” The child said, pouting in an attempt to hide his grin.
“Yeah, yeah, sure. So, the ice cream shop is…” She paused for a moment to scope out her surroundings, spotting the small building she'd had in mind – one she'd visited many times, both as a child and, now, adult – just over the road. She pointed it out to the younger bean. “There.”
Quin quickly spotted the place in question, and didn't hesitate to run to the roadside – stopping a little too close to the edge of the sidewalk for some, though Chase didn't pay attention to such things.
“Follow me!” He cried, excitable as ever. Chase jogged up beside him, slowed just a little by the bag on her back. As soon as there was a suitably large break in the traffic, Quin ran straight across the road, grabbing Chase’s hand and pulling her with him. “Ha!” He said, a little more loudly than is generally acceptable in a public space, “We beat the cars! We got them better!”
“Sure did,” Chase said, taking advantage of the fact that she had his hand in her own to lead him into the squat yet homely shop, “So, what kind of ice cream does a Quintillion like?”
“Mint choc chip is the best! Because it's got both things and it's awesome.” Explained the younger bean.
“Hmm… I like mint, too. I think I might get it as well.” Responded Chase, nodding thoughtfully.
She walked Quin over towards the counter, all the while taking in the vaguely familiar building. Though it'd recently been remodelled, the soft pastel colours and round tables which made up the interior of the shop were reminiscent of its appearance years ago. Even outside, the new, sand-coloured stone, wide windows and tables shaded by large, faded parasols were similar to those of old which was enough to remind the teen fondly of her childhood.
Chase ordered two mint chocolate chip ice creams, waiting as the worker prepared this and watching her young friend and rambling on with his hands and face pressed up against the glass (or was that plastic?) which served as a shield to the various flavours of ice cream from the greedy hands of younger beans much like himself.
When the ice creams were handed to her over the counter, she paid the worker, handed one to Quin and walked to one of the tables outdoors, her young minion in tow. Before he'd even taken his seat, Quintillion had gained a new mint chocolate chip moustache and beard from his rather messy eating habits. The pair sat, Chase dumping her damp flannel over the back of the chair so that she was instead just wearing the simple shirt underneath, and began to eat. It appeared that, now, Quin was going to have a few moments of silence.
Having had a sudden thought, though it should probably have occurred to her earlier, Chase spoke up.
“So hey, you got parents anywhere?” She asked, genuinely curious as to where this little bean came from. In response, Quin looked up at her with the same wide, innocent eyes as when he'd told her that he had no name, and lied to her without a second thought.
“I don’t have any.” He stated in a manner innocent enough to seem true, obviously free of regret and experiencing no guilt about his decision. Little did he know that by now, Chase’s mind was racing. Ever since it was announced that no bean could have a child again, she had felt crushed, being that she had always wanted a little one of her own. Maybe, just maybe, she had her chance now.
"Aw man," she said, playing it cool, "That must suck, huh?"
The younger bean shrugged at this.
"You could stick with me for a while, if you want?" Chase added, watching Quin beaming in response.
"Yeah! That'd be so cool!"
“Neat!” She exclaimed, suddenly scrabbling to grab her phone from her bag. By now, she'd thought to tell her best
Image
friend about this. Opening her conversation with Jayce, she typed in a quick message.
‘hey, youll never guess what I just found’
Without thinking, she pulled up the camera to take a picture of herself with her new friend, suddenly pausing with her hand in the air.
“Oh, d'you mind?” She asked. Quin looked over to what she was doing.
“Picture? Sure!” Quin said, quickly wiping his mouth with the back of his hand in an attempt to look somewhat decent. Chase took the picture, rather satisfied with the result, and sent it to Jayce. Hardly a moment later, she got a response.
‘What, a 6 year old who's shorter than you?’
‘I put up with your emo phase and I get this in return? no, hes a kid without parents’
Looking over her shoulder as she typed, Quin suddenly spoke, apparently having only just having read the message from Jayce.
“I'm seven! Not six like a baby!” He complained. Laughing, Chase typed a second message.
‘and he told me to tell you hes 7’
‘7, got it. And what are you planning?’

"ANYWAY, after that Chase kept texting for a bit and we finished our ice creams and we were about to get up when daddy and Fuyu and Chi were on the street – it was a boys’ day out - and they saw us and then daddy was all saying ‘Patrick! Patrick! I was so worried!’ and things and he ran over and was fussing and Chase was a bit confused. But then daddy said 'thank you so much' to Chase for looking after me and told me not to run off again – but that's boring – and anyway he was pulling me away with him and it turns out Chase was going that way too so I walked with her and she told me she was surprised at everything which had happened and I told her I liked Quintillion more than Patrick Lee. And eventually Chase needed to go in a different direction so she said bye and offered to babysit if daddy ever needed her to and gave him her phone number, and she did! And that's how I met Chase and she babysits sometimes and things and she's cool (But not as much as me) and now people should call me Quin because that name is better than Patrick, but mommy and daddy always forget. I think they forget sometimes because I sometimes have to pretend that Patrick is my name because that's what it says on my passport and the school register and stuff. It's okay, though, because old people are forgetful sometimes, I'll just have to keep teaching them.”

HOW . ABOUT . SOME . GARDENING?
Image
how do you feel about gardening? | "GARDENING? Why should I care about that? It's stupid, you just sit there and wait for things to happen, which is useless and pointless. All you have to do it put something in the ground, it's not even difficult. Then you just wait and see that it either grew or didn't and you get bored."
are you any good at it? | "
I don't know, I've never bothered to try. And why should I? It's stupid. I bet that if I did, though, I'd be the best at it and my plants would be the biggest."
If you were to place Quin in a garden with gardening tools and leave him there, you'd be more likely to come back and find the entire place destroyed than to find anything growing. Even supervised, the inactive nature of the plants would bore him quickly, and he would soon be making noise or running rampant until he found something interesting to do.
what kinds of plants do you like best (flowers, herbs, succulents, cacti, etc)? | "...
THERE'S that many types? Why can't they all just be called 'plants'? If I had to choose a favourite, it'd be whatever venus flytraps and things are, because flowers are for girls - and I heard about one which is like a jug and it catches insects and stuff then digests them. Those are cool. But cacti aren't that bad either, because they're spiky and stuff, so they're not that boring like most plants."
do you have a garden? | "
NO, I don't. Why would I need a garden? They're boring; just plants and plants and plants everywhere. Plants don't do nothing, they just sit there. Boring. Mommy and daddy have a garden (but I think it's mostly mommy's, because she really likes plants for some reason), but I don't use it or anything, unless I wanna play out there or something."
do you want one? | "
NO! I don't want one and I don't need one, not right now. Not until I get a huge mansion with this huge garden but then I wouldn't need to do anything because my staff would do that while I'm out doing things which are actually cool."
if you had one, would you want it to be useful or pretty? | "
I heard some people have gardens for vegetables and stuff, which is stupid. Who needs a garden when you have a store? No, if I had a garden it'd be the biggest and best garden with loads of rare stuff and huge man-eating plants - like on that movie! The 'shop of something-or-other' one. That plant was actually cool, but it did speak, so that makes it better than all the others anyway."
Image

would you make your family help with your garden? | "SURE, I guess. I mean, it would be the biggest garden so I'd need someone to deal with it - not that it takes much effort - and I think they like plants and stuff. Probably... They're the kind of people who would. They like that kind of boring stuff, so why not? It'd give them something to do, and it'd be good for them since they'd be doing something interesting for one. I mean, it'd only be interesting in my garden because my garden would have loads of cool stuff in it, things which actually do things and aren't boring like those normal plants and flowers and stuff."
what kind of things would you like in your garden? | "
IF I had to have one, I'd only have things which are actually cool, like talking plants like in that movie I talked about earlier and huge stuff and things which cost lots of money. I'd have a giant tree - the biggest one ever - which is so big that only I could climb it and then I'd have statues and fountains and things around it because they're slightly less boring than plants - at least they're interesting to look at and you can make them how you want. And the statues could secretly be robots and move around and stuff and I could have a robot dragon and lions and things, cool things. But I don't want a garden until I get a mansion, remember?"
okay, so what would you prefer to have? | "
SOMETHING really awesome... Like wings! I could grow wings or have someone make some for me out of metal and stuff and they'd be huge and look really cool and they'd glow and I could fly around and everyone would be surprised and amazed and they'd be like 'woooaaahh'. And I'd flap my wings and go up into the sky and take some clouds back in a bottle or something so that I could sell them and then I'd be rich and I'd buy a rocket so I could go into space and find a new planet and make friends with the aliens and I'd be the best."
for reference, the things referred to in this section were Venus flytraps, pitcher plants, and Little Shop of Horrors

LET'S . GET . MORE . PERSONAL
tell us about yourself* | "ME? Is there anything which isn't obvious already? I'm cool – really cool – and I do interesting stuff. You know, exciting things. Things which aren't boring. What else is there to know?"

Attention seeker - show off – loud – sarcastic – easily offended – opinionated – self-centered - ENTP-A

Image
In general, Quin is just another noisy child with little to no sense of priorities and almost no patience. Almost his entire life revolves around not only himself, but his insatiable need for attention and to be seen. Being in a large family, of course, this was made a little more difficult than it would have been if he were an only child. Not only that, but, being a few minutes older than Chara, Quin is also one of three middle children. His parents do their best to make everything fair, as any good parent would, but it's just never been enough as far as the young bean was concerned, and Quin became quite the troublemaker, figuring that attention is attention, no matter whether it's positive or negative.
As a young child, he'd spend his time clinging to one of his parents or one of his siblings, or, while Chara lay soundly asleep at night, would wail and bawl for hours on end. At his current age, his attention seeking is somewhat more refined, in that he tends to do things to gain attention rather than clinging to people or waiting for them to come to him. This new form of attention seeking is usually seen in the form of showing off constantly, be it about a piece of information or something he believes he can do, doing 'dangerous' things such as climbing up high and jumping off of things, small acts of disruption like shouting out in class, or just talking very loudly for an extended period and constantly asking (Regularly irrelevant or obvious) questions.
Quin tends to take up lots of activities for the sake of doing something, which will in part net him some attention, and also keeps him busy, as he really does hate boredom. If you were to ask whether or not he's tried something, provided that he doesn't see it as 'boring', the answer is probably yes. Cross country? Yes. Scuba diving? Of course. Cliff diving, the leading role in the school play, rock climbing? Absolutely. All of this is funded by none other than his parents, though mostly Tochi, who is often glad to see him taking part and doing things, though he does often worry with some of the more dangerous of activities.
Occasionally, he will also become somewhat destructive, though this is mostly when he is bored, and consists of him tearing up pieces of paper, picking leaves from plants, digging holes or knocking things off of shelves by mistake while he runs around in an attempt to be doing something which he sees as interesting.

Because of this, he is sometimes referred to as a 'bull in a china shop'.
Often, when in open spaces or those with lots of people, Quin will talk with excessive volume or just shout what he has to say, as he feels that he has to be heard at all times, this loudness having been originally brought on by living in a busy household with lots of family members to speak over. When he speaks, Quin does so with an overwhelming confidence and exuberance, and states his opinions as though they are proven facts, being that he is strongly opinionated. He has a very definitive idea of everything, and hates to be proven wrong, though when he does know that he has lost an argument will switch sides immediately, using the other's own arguments to his advantage as best he can. In general, he prefers to classify things simply by things which he sees as obvious, like 'girl' and 'boy' - which will lead him to be quite confused by more ambiguous gender identities in later life – and 'cool' and 'not cool'. As such, what he sees as 'cool' and 'not cool' will be stated immediately upon his thinking these things, given that he has an audience, and he will stand by his opinions until the end, though his arguments are often somewhat lacking in evidence.
Around others, even those who have known him for quite some time, Quin is almost always showing off in one way or another, be it attempting great feats of courage, claiming to be able to do superhuman things or just claiming to have more or better of everything than

everybody else. You visited this place? Well, his great grandparents own ten of them only better, apparently. You found a nickel? Well last weekend, he allegedly found a ten-dollar bill. These things are seldom true, but his exaggerations and made-up stories make Quin seem larger than life in a way which he finds appealing. Besides this, Quin is usually very fun and fairly competitive, always wanting to play and meet new people, even if he does usually end up talking over everyone he comes across.
For the most part, Quin acts in a less trusting manner around adults, having been told to 'stop' too many times for him to expect anything else from them. Around adults, he will usually pull off a 'cute' face in an attempt to look more innocent than he is and to get away with things, though is often sarcastic when told not to do something. Sarcasm is a trait he picked up only last year from Meghan, and he has hardly stopped using his new found 'skill' since. Some people find this fairly irritating but, as far as Quin is concerned, it's just hilarious, and he'll usually end up laughing after a sarcastic phrase – or during one, if he's unlucky.

how about your family?* | "WELL, my family is alright, I guess... I have a mommy and a daddy, two brothers, Fuyuki and Daichi, a sister, Satsuki... And a twin sister, Chara. She's... My twin sister. Yep."
Image
Tochi | Definitely not a daddy's boy, Quin isn't particularly close to Tochi, finding that he's rather overbearing and fairly boring. While Quin wants to be out in the world doing things without guidance, Tochi would much rather keep him where he knows he would be safe, and tend to worry a lot. This worry has, over time, led to Quin not bothering to ask whether he can do things, instead just doing them, meaning that he often gets into trouble with his father based on Tochi’s worry that he could become injured. As a family man, Tochi spends a lot of time with his wife and children, watching over them and enjoying the time he gets to spend with them. Of course, he does his best to give each of his children equal attention, which Quin does not like at all. Often, which Tochi is speaking to Fuyuki, Daichi, Satsuki or Chara – Chara especially – Quin will burst into the conversation or be very loud nearby so as to divert attention from his siblings towards himself. Though Tochi does try to be gracious, he is fair in his treatment and will usually tell his son off for this. Given that Tochi tries hard to be a good father and to give his children the best experiences he can provide, Quin finds it easy to use him to his advantage, and will commonly be found asking for things and to be taken places. Tochi does all that he can to supply these things, only really saying no when he is concerned for his youngest son’s safety.
Image
Kura | Quin is closer to his mother than to his father, given that he doesn't find her quite so overbearing as her husband, though he is often confused about her and her scent jars. He just can't seem to fathom why she's so quiet, and doesn't understand her shyness at all, so he does try to encourage her to meet others and be more talkative, mostly through holding her hand and attempting to pull her with him and by talking excessively at her. In response, Kura acts in a polite manner, and declines his many offers to take her out to a number of places with as much grace as can be put into a few words. In general, she'll simply suggest that he do something outdoors or go and play with his siblings. Previously, these offers had been to help her with things and to create a scent jar of his own, but she soon moved away from these things as he would become easily bored and she began to realise that it's maybe better to keep him away from her scent jars. Quin doesn't really understand why his mother keeps jars of ‘smelly stuff’ or their sentimental value, and, after two had been broken – admittedly, only one of these breakages had been by accident – it was decided that he was no longer allowed to be too near to them. Kura worries a lot about her youngest son, though in a less outspoken manner than her husband, and, in her own, shy way, seldom hesitates to be relieved when she knows that he is safe and look out for him at every given opportunity. Often, on the quieter of evenings, when Quin has settled down to some extent due to tiredness, he will snuggle up next to his mother, telling her all number of exaggerated tales until it's time for bed.
Image
Fuyuki | In general, Quin doesn't get along with Fuyuki as well as he does with Daichi, mostly because the two are almost always in competition for their parents’ attention, particularly their father’s. Fuyuki doesn't intend to create any form of competition, and just does what he enjoys and shares it with his parents, but Quin sees him as his main rival. Of course, ‘Fuyu’ and Tochi are rather close and are able to talk for quite some time, while Quin’s conversations are fairly inconsistent, and while Fuyuki almost always has something to show for what he's done during that day, Quin rarely has any kind of creation to present. As you'd imagine, this makes Quin quite determined to do everything that he can to be more impressive than his brother, and he takes every opportunity to compete with him, the result being that he either celebrates excessively and milks his victory, or is a dreadfully sore loser. Fuyuki is quite well-mannered and reserved, and so doesn't often want to take part in Quin’s games, meaning that the two don't spend much time together. Due to Fuyuki being polite and often refusing to play with his youngest brother, Quin will sometimes mockingly switch what he calls him from ‘Fuyu’, a nickname, to ‘Fugu’, a traditional Japanese dish of pufferfish which he learned about from his mother and from his father’s partial Japanese background, with the reasoning that ‘he’s all prickly like a spiky-fish’.
Image
Daichi | ‘Chi’ is definitely Quin’s favourite family member, and is one of the few people who can compete with the number of questions he asks. When Quin was a very young child, Daichi could frequently be found beside his cradle, just watching him with an undoubtable curiosity and a need to know about him: where he came from, how he grew and learned, what he liked and didn't, and who he would grow to be. This is possibly one reason for the pair’s bond. Often, Daichi is the only person who will play with Quin, unless of course he is busy or not in the mood to do so, in which case Quin will often become frustrated, but not in a manner which is aimed at Chi, just that he isn't doing things. He doesn't really understand why Daichi is sometimes spacey, and of course does everything he can to pull him out of these periods of daydreaming with loud noises and disruption just in case something is wrong. The pair’s ideas of playing are quite different, as Chi prefers to play in a manner which doesn't usually disturb others, while Quin would much rather include everything and everyone within a 10-mile radius in his games. Because of this, they're often conflicted as to what to do, but as Quin tends to be dominant and Chi submissive, Daichi is often pulled into loud and rambunctious games, which serve as a sort of experiment to him, to find out where the line between okay and not okay is. In social situations, particularly those involving strangers, Quin takes the lead, and while he commonly trails off and forgets that he isn't the only one who can talk, does try to include Daichi and push him to converse and improve his social skills. The result isn't always good, but Quin tries and his older brother appreciates this.
Image
Satsuki | There appears to be a level of disconnect between Quin and his oldest sibling, maybe due to their age difference. It was almost always made clear that he Should Not Go In Her Room If Possible, and he generally doesn't, unless other people go in first, in which case he will follow, if only to be included in whatever happens. For this reason, he tends to only see her in family areas, if they both happen to be there at the same time. Satsuki tends not to be particularly responsive to Quin’s insistent badgering, leading to his either becoming frustrated or leaving and doing something else, depending on what else is nearby at the time. He doesn't really know her, and can't honestly say that he knows when her birthday is (Though he would of course lie and say that he does know), and, while he doesn't exactly dislike her, would expressly say that she isn't cool.
Image
Chara | Given that Quin thrives in attention and loves to be unique, it's safe to say that he hates being a twin, and some of this hatred has passed onto his twin sister despite her having done nothing particularly wrong. The realisation that
Image
he and Chara would be eternally seen as a pair only fell upon Quin at age three, when he asked his parents what a twin was and why he was one. They explained to him that he and Chara were like a pair of children instead of just two separate ones, and this seemed to really quite upset him, as he wanted to know why they made him the same as Chara and why he couldn't be ‘a just-one baby’. All he wanted was to be unique, but this is made much more difficult as in general, everyone sees he and Chara as ‘the twins’ rather than two individual beans. Of course, Quin believes that this is all Chara’s fault, and hates to share anything with her, much less their room. Their parents do their best to treat not only the twins but each of their children as individuals, based on what they need and like, but Quin seldom notices, instead picking up on every minute similarity between how he and his sister are treated. The same goes for how Chara acts. She likes mint ice cream or wants to play outside? She must be copying him! This often leads to him doing outrageous things around his sister, if only to differentiate himself from her, and if he thinks that he can do or say something to get one up on her, he will do so. Alas, Chara doesn't seem to pick up on his dislike of her, and actually loves her brother. She'll often want to play or just spend time being around her brother, then not understand why he seems so disgruntled. In general, Quin will avoid playing with Chara, using excuses like ‘but she's not good at that’ or ‘but she's a girl’, unless there is the prospect of a competition, in which he will do everything possible to beat her and prove that he is the ‘better’ sibling.
and how about that one from earlier?* | “CHASE? Well, she babysits sometimes… I sometimes stay with her as well, or we go on adventures and stuff! She's pretty cool, and I'm still trying to convince her that I'm the coolest – because I am. She has a dog called Charley, and he's nice and I like him, and he comes on adventures with us. It's stuff like finding stuff – once we found these really really old coins – and we do really cool stuff like going to different places and things and climbing mountains! And we always have to bring backpacks to keep stuff in so I have a green one with a frog – but it's really a monster disguised as a frog – on it, and Chase has her regular backpack. One day I'm going to go to the Amazon rainforest, maybe Chase will take me, and I'll meet all sorts of animals and wrestle a huge crocodile and discover a new animal or plant – because there are lots of them there – and become rich and famous and then I'll buy everything and make my own country and be the King!”
Chase and Quin are fairly close, and Chase is fairly trusted by Tochi and Kura, given that she had taken care or Quin when she met him and he had run off on his own and that she has been babysitting for the family for a year or so. She gets along well with all five children in the family, but none so much as Quin, who she refers to interchangeably as her apprentice or minion. When Chase does babysit, Quin follows her around, being sure that he gets more of her attention than his siblings do, and Chase doesn't mind this. Chase is eighteen and, while she does still live with her parents, hardly ever stays there, preferring to travel from place to place and stay with friends or in hotels for the night, while during the day she will visit all number of places, be it small towns, forests, or massive tourist attractions in a sort of ‘adventure’ with her springer spaniel, Charley. From time to time, she'll also invite Quin on these adventures, taking him to see and do things and keeping him busy. Unless his parents have decided that he'll be busy on the decided date, Quin will always be excited to go, and look forwards to following her and her dog away from his home with his green backpack and being treated differently to his siblings. On some occasions, he will stay with Chase for a little longer, sometimes on weekends or just overnight. This usually only happens if Chase is going somewhere a little further away and he's begged his parents to go with her, but they need longer to get there and back, or if he is in a particularly bad mood. This started a few months ago, when Chase had finished babysitting and had just left, and Quin ended up getting into an argument with Chara, which then expanded to include Kura and Tochi. Quin was getting fairly upset, and complaining yet again about sharing a room with his sister, and eventually just exclaimed that he was going to live

with Chase instead and ran off, right out of the house. Though his parents followed him, they found that they'd soon lost him. He'd been known to run off before, but never with the idea to leave permanently, and his family were of course very worried. They called Chase, as he'd mentioned going to live with her, and she said that she'd keep an eye out for him. Sure enough, just ten minutes later they received a text saying that she'd found him running to find her, but that he was pretty upset and not willing to go back home right now. They discussed this, though the responses from Chase took a while as she had to pretend that she wasn't in contact with Quin's parents for the sake of not upsetting him further, and it was agreed that Chase should keep an eye on him and have him return the next morning, when he would have surely settled. Just as they'd suspected, he was fine by the following day and was returned home to his very relieved parents. Since then, he has stayed with Chase from time to time, occasionally as a stunt to try and gain attention but more often when he's upset, and while his parents do still worry about him running off, they're glad to know that if he does suddenly leave, they can probably find him, and that he's not just running to a stranger. Chase has all number of nicknames for Quin, ranging from ‘Squirt’ to ‘Billy goat’ to ‘Pidgey’, all of which have a story behind them, mostly involving a game of some sort. Though he mightn't show it often, instead preferring to act as though he doesn't care and is too cool for that, Quin does really respect Chase, and looks up to her and her lack of care for what anyone thinks, and, ironically, Chase is quite attached to the child though she acts in a ‘chill’ manner about it. Often, Quin will use stories she's told him when trying to show that he's better than others, simply saying that he did the things involved instead of her, and sometimes even exaggerates on her to make himself look better, saying things like ‘well, I'm friends with a real life explorer who's been all around the entire world and speaks every language and she takes me with her sometimes because I'm awesome.’ All in all, the pair of them – or trio, if you were to count Charley – are inseparable.

Form notes: an asterisk [*] in a header indicates that the topic is an extra. The form is mostly laid out in an 'interview style', so for the sake of ease of reading, Quin's grammar and speaking has been mostly corrected throughout, though things like repeatedly using the word 'and', making sentences excessively long or over-use of words like 'cool' have been left in. In stories, the grammar and speaking has not been corrected to the same extent to give an idea of how he communicates. Though the family does have a trend of using Japanese names, I have been assured that Tochi (Quin's father)'s new character would be likely to use non-Japanese names. In my form, Meghan, Jayce and Chase were used. Meghan is owned by ChristianAnimalLover, and Jayce is owned by Hopeful. I had permission to use both. Chase is owned by me. In my form, it was said that Chase was eighteen. This is true, and she has been aged to the adult lines, but as I am travelling currently, this has not yet been revealed. Finally, I would like to apologise profusely for the excesses of text.
