Gazania was born into the Albion Herd. His herd consisted of twenty-two members at the time of his birth (even now, he can name all of their names and picture them exactly in his mind) and it's territory included a small part of a forest and a large field. Gazania was one of two bulls, the other being his best friend Shela. Right after he reached his second birthday, strange things started happening. Trees were marked with colored scraps and a large board with writing and pictures appeared in the middle of the field. The herd was worried, but not overly so, until one day large machines starting appearing. The herd watched from the trees, nervous and afraid, as the machines tore up the earth day by day. One day, a machine turned and headed straight for them.
"Run!" The herd's leader, Xyla, shouted. In a panic, the cows ran deeper into the trees. At first, they stuck together, but then a calf stumbled off on her own. "Yarrow!" her mom screamed, chasing after her. Her mate and older son followed them, and soon all of the herd was disbanding. "Shela, where are you?" Gazania bellowed, looking around wildly for his best friend. He was nowhere to be seen. He ran back, hoping to find him, and then he saw Ra staring straight at a machine. The heavy machine was tearing up trees as it approached and the young calf just stared at it, trembling with fear. "Ra, run! Ra!" The tiny calf didn't move. Right before the machine came down on Ra, it stopped. A near-hairless creature stepped out and walked towards her (oddly, it only walked on it's back two legs). Ra finally came to her senses and ran. The creature watched her run and then looked up at him and stepped back slowly until he had climbed back into the machine. Afraid for his life, Gazania ran.

That night, after the machines left, most of the herd had found each other again and they all settled down to sleep. Gazania pressed up against Shela, relieved that his friend was safe. An old cow, Tasmania, kept watch, but Gazania didn't feel safe enough to sleep.
At some point in the night he gave in, because the next morning he woke up to the sound of panic. All around them, the strange creatures he had seen were moving towards them. They held long poles with something at the end. He had no clue what it could be used for. Then he watched one try to loop the end around Xyla's neck. She lashed out at the creature and then ran, and the herd followed her. As they ran, Gazania felt hope rising in his heart. They were close to the field! They would be safe in the field, they had to be! As he broke the treeline, his heart sank like a rock. Large boxes on wheels surrounded them and more creatures with looped poles stood next to them. He watched as his herd was caught and forced into the boxes, and then he felt a loop around his neck. With a battle cry, he swung his head and the loop snapped. He knocked the creature down and fled back into the forest, away from the living nightmare.
As his territory got destroyed, Gazania was forced to leave. He found a different forest to live in, and for a year he was alone. One night while he slept, he heard a sound. Hoofing at the ground, he prepared to fight his foe, but then an old cow stumbled into view. "Tasmania?" The black and white buttermilk smiled softly at him. "Gaz, I am glad to see you."
"Tasmania, what did they do to you all? I thought they killed you!" The cow lied down in front of him, breathing rather heavily. "Give me a moment, Gazania, I'm not a young cow anymore." She spent multiple minutes trying to catch her breath.
"They took us to a big enclosed field. They milked us cows, who knows why, but we had all the food and water we needed. When Ra hurt her hoof, they healed her, and when Xyla fell ill they cured her as well. It was mostly good, but I missed the wild. The stuff keeping us in broke during a storm one night, and we fled. Unfortunately, I got separated from the rest of the herd. I've been traveling for a couple of months and now I've found you!"
Gazania could barely contain his joy. "How was Shela doing? Did he miss me?" His tail flicked in concern as Tasmania avoided his gaze. "I'm sorry, Gaz. He couldn't be milked. They took him away, and the buttermilks that were already there told us that he was likely killed."
Gazania couldn't believe it. For a moment, he thought his best friend had survived, but he hadn't.
That night, he dreamed of blood and death. When he awoke, the cow next to him was still and cold. He spent the rest of the day getting leaves and flowers to cover Tasmania's body. "Goodbye. I hope you find your place among the skies." He bowed his head in respect for the elder cow, then left.
Months later, he found the Gladiola Herd and since then he's had a new home.

Gazania has two different aspects of his personality, and he tends to switch from one to the other rather quickly.
Image
He hates being alone, but he refuses to admit it. Therefore, he can be very territorial and closed off. Sometimes he's almost like a cat - he pretends he doesn't want to be around you but he actually craves attention. He can be very rash and is the living embodiment of "think before you act" because he's never done it.
In his mind, everybody's an enemy with few exceptions. Even if he knows he's wrong, he usually refuses to admit it. Apologizing is hard for him because he hates being wrong, and he'd rather be stubborn than admit his flaws or mistakes. He loves to fight even though he's rather rubbish at it, leading to many unnecessary injuries, and he's very dominant. He wants to be the leader of his herd, but he can't beat Iratze and he can't bring himself to fight Basil or Reese. So instead he just settles for his lower ranking and tries to boss others around anyways. He gets away with it sometimes, but Reese and Iratze are quick to put him back in his place.
His other half is much more gentle. He isn't typically like this, but sometimes something clicks inside of him, typically when he's reminded of his old herd. When it does, he's very protective and pretty cuddly. He becomes a social butterfly and he's often rather flirty, even with cows he has no interest in. He's even flirted with Basil, even though he has no romantic feelings for her and she has a girlfriend. It's just how he is.

Basil found Gazania wandering aimlessly with an injured leg and many claw wounds on his back. He tried to charge her, but she easily dodged him and he crashed into a tree. Next thing he knew, he was waking up in a pile of soft grass and other plants. A few flowers had been weaved into his tail and various herbs were slathered across his back. Basil explained that she was trying to heal him, and the flowers were for good luck. A custom among the herd. He accepted her help, but insisted that he wasn't going to stay. She told him that was fine, but his limp wouldn't wear off for a few weeks, and she didn't recommend that he try to leave with his leg still injured. Among those few weeks, he grew rather close to the softspoken cow. He's the only bull Basil has ever liked and she convinced him to stay once his leg healed. They watch out for each other almost constantly. She calls him 'Gazzy' on occasion even though he hates it.

Pandora is a very skittish cow and the only bulls she likes are mellow ones.
Image
Unfortunately for her, Gazania isn't that type of bull. Pandora is very frightened of him and avoids him as much as possible. They don't interact much. She typically watches him from a distance and is rather annoyed that he spends so much time with her friend Basil. Despite her distaste for him, she does like his coat. She thinks his back pattern looks like seeds and she's rather fascinated by it.

Iratze was worried that he might try to fight her for leadership, and to her dismay, he did. Fortunately for her, he's a rather lousy fighter. She dispatched him with a few swift kicks, sending him to the bottom of the rankings. Since then he's fought himself up above Pandora (she surrendered as soon as he charged her) and Autumn (she also gave up quickly) but he can't bring himself to fight Basil. Iratze respects his confidence and dignity and now that she knows he isn't a threat, they've definitely bonded. She's glad there's another herd member willing to take a few risks. She's also happy to see how he's integrated himself among the herd. She thinks that he's brought them closer, even though Pandora hasn't warmed up to him yet. She believes she will eventually.

Autumn is new to the herd so Gazania hasn't interacted with her much, but from what he's seen she bothers him immensely. She's always sleeping or lying around and it drives him up the wall. Whenever he asks for help, she blows him off or finds a half-baked excuse. He has given up on her. She typically ignores him.

When Reese was born Gazania immediately didn't like him. Because he was the leader's son, he automatically got to be second highest ranking despite his youth. He wants to fight him, but Reese is rather good at fighting and he's still a calf, so he just sulks about it. However, he is starting to let go of his grudge. He doesn't want to spend his whole life being bitter about the only other bull in the herd. While he might not like him much, he will defend him to the death about his gender. If somebody misgenders him on purpose, Gazania will team up with Reese and absolutely destroy them.

Toast may not be a buttermilk but that doesn't mean Gazania isn't close with her. He was jealous of Iratze's companion Eloise so when he found Toast lost in the woods, he grew excited very quickly. Instantly, he knew she was his companion. The fluffy girl followed him home (with a little encouragement) and he loves her very much. Originally she didn't like sitting on him very much, but he always placed her on his back because he wanted her to and eventually she got used to it. Now she likes to sit on his shoulders. Sometimes she pecks at his markings because they look a little like seeds, but he thinks it's funny.

Castle is a friend of Basil's. Basil introduced her to him and while he was wary of her at first, he's grown to like her. He does get a bit jealous when Basil spends time with her, but he knows that she's allowed to have other friends. He typically only hangs out with her when Basil is around, but a few times he has visited her on his own. Even though she isn't a part of the herd, he kind of thinks of her as part of it. He would never be alarmed to find her on their territory, even if she was taking herbs/flowers/etc. In fact, he's given her herbs on occasion.

He met Axel one day while searching for some herbs for Basil. Typically he would instantly charge a trespassing enemy, especially another bull, but he couldn't bring himself to because Axel reminded him of his presumed deceased friend Shela. Instead, he let the other bull know this was Gladiola Herd territory, but as long as he didn't take valuable resources (such as herbs) or cause issues, he would be allowed to pass through. Since then, he's become very relaxed on those terms, and Axel has become a very close friend of his. Axel could set fire to their sleeping area and trample all of their herbs and he'd probably thank him. Sometimes he's worried the only thing binding their friendship is his likeness of Shela, but he also finds Axel's personality charming. Due to Axel's competitiveness they often compete in races and short fighting matches.

Gazania came across Heather one day during a particularly harsh winter when the Gladiola Clan was struggling to find food. He had seen a place with a couple of cows roaming freely, but still contained, and had seen them get fed. So when Iratze was weak because she refused to eat before the rest of the herd, he forced her to eat his share of a grassy patch they had found and left to go there. He had hoped he could just sneak in, but the fence was lined with sharp wire. So instead, he called out to one of the cows. Heather had come and when he explained the situation, she let him have some of his food. Now, even when the herd is doing just fine, he likes to visit her and ask her questions about what her life is like. He's offered to help break her out multiple times because he doesn't understand why a buttermilk wouldn't want complete freedom, but she's declined him every time.

Alli lives in the same place that Heather does, and for the longest time he swore she was a bull due to her horns. When she actually got closer and he realized she had udders he was thoroughly embarrassed. Since then they've been friends, and he hasn't told her about his mistake. He likes to talk to her and can spend hours standing outside the fence socializing with her. Even though she's shy, they've spent enough time together that she's warmed up to him and they have plenty of inside jokes. He had a minor crush on her, but he got over it and now he sees her as just a friend, especially because she's dating his friend Basil!

Gazania finds Bloom rather sweet and he loves her ears. He's always wanted to touch them but he's always been too nervous to ask if he can. Honestly, the only reason they interact much is because he's captivated by her ears and she lives with Alli and Heather. However, he would call her a friend!

Yet another cow that lives with Alli, Heather, and Bloom, Skylar is a very close friend of Gazania's. Their personalities mesh well and despite her being younger than him (because he's Heather's child), he formed a bond with her early on. While they sometimes fight because of her spunkiness and rebellious nature, he finds her head-on approach to life refreshing. Because she is antisocial, sometimes she'll ignore him for lengths of time, but he understands and always leaves her alone. Sometimes he needs the break too.

While he has a friendly relationship with the other enclosed cows, he cannot stand Chelsea. She is impressed at the littlest things yet nothing he's ever done has been enough to peak her interest and it drives him crazy and makes him question himself. She's always pranking him and trying to boss him around, and whenever he tries to fight back she yells at him. It's gotten to the point where he avoids her most of the time, because every interaction they have ends in bickering and tension thick enough to be cut with a knife.

Gazania took a step back, judging the jump in front of him. He could definitely make it. No problem. Piece of cake. Backing up some

more, he took a deep breath and then sprinted towards the large gap in the earth. He leaped, all four hooves leaving the grassy ground. As he landed on the other side, he let out the breath. He did it! As he started walking forward, his legs buckled beneath him and he hit the ground. Looking behind him, he couldn't see anything wrong, but as he tried to stand, he realized he had landed on his left back leg wrong. Great.
He spent the next few hour limping around, hoping that it would wear off. When he heard barking, he quickly headed in the other direction. It was no use, he could barely hobble around. A large scarred wolf barreled through the trees, foaming at the mouth. A normal wolf wouldn't have dreamed of going after a huge bull, but this thing was clearly rabid. It leaped on him and tore at his back. In a normal state, he wouldn't have had an issue with it. But in his exhausted, injured state, it took him nearly a minute to dislodge the canine. The rabid creature lay twitching on the ground and he left before he could figure out if it was going to try to attack him again. Now in even worse condition, he lay down to rest. In the morning, his wounds hurt worse, and his leg had begun to ache terribly. Not even an hour into the morning, he was stumbling around "his" territory when a cow came into view. She took one look at him and began to walk over to him. Not in my territory! He stumbled forward, attempting to charge, but she moved. I'll get you, you'll se- his head slammed into an oak tree and before he could register what had happened, he passed out and hit the dirt.

Bull Name:
    Memphis
Age:
    Five
6 Word Personality:
"That seemed cooler in my head."

In Depth Personality:
Memphis is the type of bull to come up with unbelievable stunts and then attempt to perform them, despite cautious warnings from others. Often times, his poorly planned tricks are total busts, that either lead to him getting injured, or the entire idea simply failing altogether. He's a risk-taker, but a poor one, who always wants to come off as "the cool guy" but tends to be "that bull who's always doing something stupid." Most would refer to him being your typical dorky character, constantly trying to fit in with the popular kids but always managing to make a fool of himself. It's no big deal for Memphis, however, he's a very good sport at it and has learned to laugh at himself, and brush off his failures with a smile. He's a spirited young thing who won't let anyone or anything get him down. That being said, while he's typically a friendly and outgoing little thing, he's got a short temper, and a low tolerance for anyone who may pose a threat to his herd. Making fun of him is one thing, but making fun of his ladies? Bah, he will have none of it. He'll go from being a playful calf to a raging bull in seconds if anyone dares hurt the feelings of those he loves; he's a wee bit overprotective, although most of the cows living at The Milkshake Shack can take care of themselves.
History:
So you're probably wondering, where do you find such a vibrant young bull? Well, it certainly wasn't easy! You see, The Milkshake Shack is located in the western region of the United States, in an area outside of the Redwood Forest. If you happen to know the area, you'd understand that it's a beautiful, lush area, perfect for farming and raising cattle. Despite how lovely and perfect it is, it takes quite a bit to reach the area, and shipping animals is a whole 'nother story!

Memphis had been born on a Buttermilk breeding farm, many many miles away from The Milkshake Shack. He'd been a bit small at birth, and was kept on close watch for the first few weeks of life. As a calf, he was a clumsy young thing, finding it difficult to grow into his long, spindly legs. He would often trip over himself in excitement, or misplace his foot and be sent plummeting to the ground. Despite his clumsiness, he was determined to stay upright. His first few months of life were pretty simple- stay with mom and the rest of the herd, eat, sleep, and stay out of trouble. Of course, that last one was a bit rough for him, as trouble always seemed to be calling his name! Whenever his mom wasn't looking, or happened to be deeply into her nap, he'd sneak off and try to see just what was outside of their pasture. The fence was tall, but the gaps between each board were just enough apart that he could squeeze through, if he really tried. And so, he did. He escaped with little effort, only struggling when his rump seemed to become caught between the boards. His struggle left him with a few minor scrapes, but nothing he couldn't handle. But alas, he was free from the watchful eye of his mother, and thus, free to do as he pleased. So he explored. He continued to explore, until he found himself at the main house on the property. Nobody appeared to be home, meaning the farmers were probably out tending to the other animals, and giving Memphis the opportunity to see just what the human's home was like.

Well, he'd hoped. No one told Memphis that the humans had a few sheepdogs up at the house, and when the ill-observant calf accidentally stepped on one of them, he set the whole pack off. Now they had no intentions of hurting him, but he didn't know that, and bolted immediately. The dogs, of course, instinctively tried to round up the animal and herd it, which led to Memphis crying out and mooing desperately for anyone to rescue him from the loud, scary animals. It didn't take long before a farm hand noticed, and ended up calling off the dogs and having to round up the scared little calf himself. After his "death-defying" experience, Memphis vowed to never do something so stupid again, especially after the lecture he'd received from his mother. But of course, trouble always seemed to call his name.

Memphis's life was pretty normal for the next couple of years. He was weaned off of his mother, and was going to be used for studding, due to his unique coloration, and overall desirable appearance. Life was, well, boring. He lived in a small paddock with several other males, who wanted nothing to do with him, and he was never requested for stud, mostly due to the high fees set for him. So there he was, back to eating and sleeping all the time, and occasionally being brought out for exercise. Lame. As the days went on, Memphis began reminiscing life as a calf, and reliving the moment of being chased by those crazy sheepdogs. It had been so scary at the time, but looking back on it, gave the bull an adrenaline rush, something he recalled mainly experiencing during the actual chase. The more he thought about that incredible feeling, the more he wanted to relish in it, relive that thrill. And so, Memphis decided he needed to get out and rile up those dogs again. Sadly for him, his legs were no longer as long and spindly, and he was no longer small enough to fit through the fence. He actually ended up getting his horse through, before becoming stuck in-between the planks. It took the farmers over an hour of him crying to notice, and another hour to actually free him. Of course, they had to remove the planks, and then repair the fence, not to mention Memphis never did get that rush he'd been looking for.

After this little mishap, it was decided that Memphis wasn't really worth the time and effort to look after, plus he seemed so miserable being cooped up all the time. So he was put up for sale, and was eventually sold to a purple-haired girl who went by the name "grapejuice," and owned a small dairy farm on the west coast. She'd seen the bull go up for sale on the main Buttermilk site, and had instantly fallen in love with him. It took her nearly three days to drive out the trailer to pick up Memphis, but upon seeing him in person, deemed him to be "totally worth it." He only had a few moments to say goodbye to his home, before he was loaded up into the trailer, and sent on his way. The drive was awful, simply terrible. The entire ride home was bumpy and uncomfortable, and every so often, Memphis would moo loudly, or slam his hoof into the side of the metal trailer, and demand the ride be stopped. Of course, this made for a lot of unnecessary stops, including some where the bull would try and stretch his legs by wandering off if the girl wasn't holding onto his halter tight enough.

All in all, it took four days to drive home, extra hours had been accumulated from all of the various stops. Upon arrival, Memphis quickly realized that this home was much more spacious than his previous one, and there were nowhere near as many cows on this little dairy farm. Actually, there were only six, and all of them were female! Never had he felt more nervous in his life, especially considering he was hundreds of miles away from his birth home, and had no familiar faces to help him cope. Upon seeing the cozy little herd, however, the bull found his confidence, and was quick to try and impress his new lady-friends. I did say try...

Herd Relations:
Yazhi - The first cow to inhabit The Milkshake Shack, and also one of the sweetest, Yahzi and Memphis get along extremely well. They have a close relationship, much like brother and sister, as the two can often be found snuggled up to one another and discussing their day, their feelings, or whatever might be on their mind. Both can tap into one another's emotions, and find it easy to vent to one another, or simply be a shoulder to cry on whenever it is needed. Considering she's probably the most sensitive cow, he often feels the need to watch over her and occasionally, be the overbearing big brother.

Jubilee - Next up we have the herd's faithful leader, the slightly reserved Jubilee. She's the eyes and ears of The Milkshake Shack, and is always silently keeping an eye on her beloved herd mates from the sidelines. Unlike Memphis, Jubilee remains on the quiet side, and she often reminds him of a mother, from the way she constantly advises him not to perform his stunts, and gives him that "I told you so" look once it's done and failed. She doesn't encourage his behavior, but often, lets him learn on his own -- something which clearly isn't working as well as she'd hoped. Despite the two being polar opposites, Memphis adores Jubilee, and hopes to one day get to know her better, should she ever choose to actually speak with him. After all, he does tend to be a little too loud and eccentric for her liking.

Sequoia - Here we have the down-to-earth nature lover, Sequoia. She's a cheerful girl who admires the beauty of mother nature, and is constantly getting Memphis to stop and smell the roses rather than live in the moment. Being the nature lover she is, she's often out and about, hiking through the hills, or taking a stroll through the forest and listening to the animals chatter and the birds sing. Memphis occasionally accompanies her on these journeys, always hoping for a little more excitement than what they actually get. He thinks it'd be "rad" to see a bear, whereas Sequoia wants to keep her distance and simply admire the animals in their natural habitat. While they get along well enough, they're not very close, as they both have very different outlooks on life. One likes to live in the fast lane, while the other wants to take the scenic route and simply enjoy the ride.

Naomi - Naomi is what Memphis likes to call a "nerd." She's intelligent, very intelligent, and could tell you everything there is to know about anything. She'll ramble on and on about useless information for hours, something which Memphis often ends up tuning out once he gets bored. Anytime Memphis is attempting to perform some stunt, say, jumping through a ring of fire (a hula-hoop a few inches off the ground which he wants to light on fire but can't), Naomi is right by his side, making all of the calculations and speculations on how to make the trick a success. But again, he tends to tune her out or get lost in her lecture, and often ends up ignoring her, thus failing his trick. She loves his passion for thrills and adventures and so desperately wants to help him out, but he doesn't care much for her advice, and wants to do things on his own. Due to their opposing feelings, the two are acquaintances at best, and don't really spend much time together.

Penelope - Is he allowed to have a crush on one of his herd mates? Because if he can, this girl is definitely it. Penelope is a wild child, who loves to be loud and have fun. A bit of a prankster, this little cow is often hiding around corners, ready to jump out and spook her next unsuspecting victim. He and Penelope get along very well, as she often encourages Memphis's outrageous acts and is always rooting him on. She's a bit of an instigator, really, but she's the reason he never gives up. She gives him hope and courage, even if he finds himself a little frustrated after a failed attempt. Often times, the two can be seen plotting their next big prank together, or performing silly tasks in a childish game of "truth or dare."

Clarabell - Lastly, we have the peace-keeper of the herd, Clarabell. Clara is a very friendly, charming cow who can befriend just about anyone and anything. She's a people-pleaser, who does her best to maintain strong relationships with all of her herd members. Memphis likes Clara and enjoys her company, and truthfully is very envious of her. He tries so hard to be seen as "popular" or as "the cool guy," and yet Clara is just naturally well-liked by everyone.
