Here's our fourth adopt.

Second Chance Shelter is a dog and cat rescue where you can come to find a new member of your family. We rescue and rehabilitate dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes so they may have the chance to be placed into a caring home. All of our animals are special and deserve a chance to be happy with an owner that will care for them. The question is: are you ready to love them?

This sweetheart was dropped off at our shelter by a good samaritan who caught it before it could make it's way into traffic. We gave it a check up and found no I.D. chip and the poor thing didn't have a collar so after some TLC and an update on it's shots it's ready for adoption.

Well, you see, theres been some speculation he might have been the partner of a man that was in the army, and when they returned back here to visit the man's family Keyo somehow got separated from his beloved master. It appears to be that this pretty boy had been wandering for awhile, as it seems his pads had been worn down and he was limping a bit. If the speculation is correct, he must have been out on those streets trying to find his beloved master again, and the collar must have been torn away on something. Poor guy.

Story: If you were to ask about her old family and Mindy were able to answer, she'd tell you she would die protecting the older couple, their four children, and all fourteen of their grandchildren, and even their two cats. She was very protective of her family. So protective, in fact, that one night her attempts at protecting them led to her finding herself unable to return home.

She had gone outside one night, you know, doing dog things. Running around the yard, chewing on an old baseball bat, barking at the toy poodle across the street...Everything was perfectly normal. Her lovely elderly couple was asleep on the couch after watching a movie, and none of the children or grandchildren were over. It was peaceful.

Until the man with the knives and gun showed up.

At first, Mindy was fearful. She hunkered down on the porch, beneath the ratty old green swing bench there. The man was trying to sneak around to the backyard, and didn't seem to notice her. Immediately, she knew something was wrong.
The thing was, there was a large gap in the fencing in the back yard where her humans used to park their truck to put things back there. She knew better than to leave, so they never found a need to fix it. Thus, this man took advantage of it and was heading to the yard. Mindy's eyes flashed with newfound rage. This disgusting man with the scent of absolute garbage was trying to get into her home!
Mindy growled lowly before whipping off to the backyard. She barked and howled and growled, bearing her teeth at the burglar to try to scare him. He didn't seem worried. He kept heading for the basement door, but Mindy wouldn't let him. She raced up to him, rearing onto her hind legs and slashing her heavy paws at the man's face, claws catching on his cheek. After that, she bit his leg. Hard. She thought she might have broken it until the man finally took off. She chased after him, howling and probably making a nuisance to the neighborhood. As they ran, her owners came outside, calling her. However, she was too focused to hear them.

She chased him for quite some time. Unfortunately, he had dropped one of his knives and it had cut her face. Whether it was intentional or not didn't matter, because when it slashed her, she stopped. He kept running, which was a good idea.
Mindy paused, trying to catch her breath and clear her mind. When she finally relaxed a bit, she realized this:
She had no idea where she was.

Mindy wandered for days after that, not sure how to find her way back home. You see, her nose had never been that good, so she couldn't follow her own trail back. Instead, she wound up lost. Her fur grew dirty and matted, her wound on her face grew irritated, though luckily it didn't get infected, and her eyes were bleary from overexertion and dehydration... the girl was a wreck.
She ended up staying under a church with a hole in the side of the building's porch, where she could hide with ease. She didn't have anywhere else to go, after all.

Days went by. Weeks, even. And then, finally, she was found.
People with poles and leashes were there, and it made her nervous, truly. However, when she saw that they were friendly, and especially after learning they had food and water, Mindy darted out from under the porch and ran in excited circles around the people.
Before putting her in their truck, they gave her a bowl of fresh, cold water. It was extremely soothing to the poor girl, and she lapped it up as quickly as she could. After that, they looped a lead over her neck and walked her to the truck. A man with dark hair, blue and black glasses, and a strange metal thing in his ear lobe then lifted her up and into a crate.
"Don't worry, girly. You're okay now."
He smiled at her, and she was immediately relaxed. Mindy laid in the crate then, sleeping the whole drive.

Unfortunately, her previous owners had never gotten her a collar. Because of this, they weren't able to give her back. They let the vet stick needles in her, but they didn't bother her any. She knew the vaccinations were necessary. They also tended to her face, and had to shave her a little to get the thick mats out of her fur. Eventually, though, her fur grew back and her face healed. She was brought out into the kennels for the dogs available for adoption, and enjoyed seeing the shelter's mascots when they walked around to greet other animals.
Sadly, though, nobody wanted her. Whether it be because their children were scared by the scar on her face, they didn't like big dogs, or even because they simply didn't want to brush her as often as one had to with a keeshond. She watched as daily other dogs were adopted, and cats, too. She seemed to get depressed, even, laying her head on her paws and whining whenever people walked by.

A couple of weeks went by like this, and eventually, a familiar man walked up to her kennel, flashing a smile and holding up a pretty blue, white and brown collar with a matching leash. Mindy knew what that meant, that was for sure. She jumped up and yapped like that poodle she used to hate, walking in a tight circle in excitement.
That man was the one that rescued her. The one that gave her the water and lifted her into the crate. And now, she'd get to live with him forever.

She'd be wrong if she believed she didn't miss her old family. However, this young man's house was still home now. He had another man that lived with him, and they had a cat and a smaller dog, too. Luckily, Mindy got along with them perfectly fine. In the end, she was glad she ended up here. Now she had a new family to protect.

Story: Lille, a very sweet girl was playing with a child on a walk but Lille accidentally scratch the child's arm. Lille's owner thought that this dog could be very dangerous. As soon as Lillie's owner had the chance, she left poor Lille on the streets.
