I see the marking on his nose, going up between his eyes, as a spade and wanted to find a subtle way to acknowledge that; it is easily my favorite part of his design. Bekk can't sleep without a Luminara Candle and Jinx.
---Bekk's parents got him a Luminara candle when he was very little - he had trouble sleeping when he "moved out" of the room he and Scout shared and got his own own room; being thunder-storm season didn't help. The candle emits a soft flickering glow, and if it's super quiet, he can hear the "wick" moving, creating a faint clicking sound.

---Jinx has slept next to or on top of Bekk ever since the two met three years ago. Now, he can't sleep without her near-by. Well, he can, it just takes him forever to fall asleep and when he finally does he doesn't sleep well. He needs to hear or feel Jinx breathing; and falls asleep almost instantly if she is draped over his nose, between his ears or on his ribs.
---When Bekk was 7, they allowed him to get a pet and he picked Jinx. For the first week or so, she slept in her own little bed on his desk, then Bekk sprained his fore-leg after Scout dared him to jump from his favorite outdoor perch - an old doghouse that, when he was atop, he could see the whole neighborhood due the fact they already lived at the top of a slight hill. Of course, he couldn't back down from a dare and jumped. He landed wrong. That night, Bekk was in tears as he tried to sleep; partly from the faint pain as the anesthetic wore off, but mostly from fear. The next night wasn't much better and on top of that, there was a thunder-storm and after some begging, Cast and Oswyn agreed to let Jinx sleep on the bed with Bekk until his leg felt better - Jinx hasn't slept in her bed since.
