Will pretty up later- sorry for the length I got carried away!

Username:

~Silver

Name:

Nora- Irish for "Light."

Gender:

Female

Who are they looking for?:

Her other half. It sounds a bit cheesy I know but seriously read this and you'll learn that it is anything but cheesy.

Nora sat in a very comfortable couch while staring outside at the other kids playing outside. She suppressed a sigh. "Mommy!" She said as she stood up and went over to the window. "Why can't I go outside and feel the sun on my pelt? Or the sun's warm rays hug me? Or smell the healthy dirt in the ground?" She asked for 3rd day in a row.

"Because, Nora," Her mom started out as she patiently looked her daughter in the eyes. "We are cursed, remember?" Nora let out an impatient sigh and started to pout. She was beginning to wonder if her mother had made up this "curse" just to make her believe that she can't go outside. "Right. The spooky curse about the shadow who sneaks up on you and steals your soul, leaving you to be like a zombie basically." Nora rolled her eyes as she sighed and stared outside longingly. Her mother shook her head as she, too, quietly sighed. "It is a horrible curse, I know my little one." She said as she tried to calm down her daughter. "We are forever cursed to stay in this house or else the shadows will come and take us just like they did with our grandfathers." She spoke softly, for there were rumors that the shadows let them roam around in the house sometimes.

Nora finally gave in and sat down in front of the window as she watched the kids play outside all day. As far as they knew of, an old ancient family lived in the nice mansion and were scared of germs. They came and laughed and played in the forest every day, as if taunting the girl who would look longingly out at them every day. One day, though, Nora had enough of "breathing in boring dust" as she put it. She waited one very late night until all of the residents of the house had fallen asleep. Then, Nora slowly crept into her mother's room and took out the key used to open up the front door. It was as if Nora had practiced taking things and returning them, which she had. There was nothing better to do in that house rather than eavesdrop and read the "forbidden journals" written by her grandfathers before they had died.

Quietly she crept down the creaky stairs and soon enough stared at the door. She took long and deep breaths as she mentally prepared herself for what was to come. Finally the girl gathered enough courage to shove the key into the door and, before she changed her mind, turned it and pushed the door open.

Nora slowly walked out and into the darkness. It was as if the whole world had transformed within 12 hours. The once welcoming light of day now seemed to be sucked into a dark hole. It wasn't until Nora looked up and saw a bright moon and stars that she grinned and knew that she was safe. Nora took a deep breath and then, like any other child, she ran into the woods happily. She ran, and ran, and ran as she felt the grass brushing against her feet, the trees swaying gently as if welcoming her into the world, and the lightning bugs lighting up the way to a river. Nora soon stopped and, intrigued, looked into the river. She gasped happily as she sat, awestruck at the pebbles glistening in the warm summer night.

Behind her, a dark figure emerged upon it's target. It had been hundreds of years since the last time it had been out after the cursed family. Ever since the girl's grandfathers had killed it's family, calling them "monsters," the creature had sworn to go after any and all of it's family relatives and make them become the monsters. The grandfathers had found a special tree and made the base of the mansion out of it which, surprisingly enough, kept the creatures out. It was then that the creature had stayed at bay, like a cat watching it's prey, silently waiting for it's chance to bring more misery out upon the family.

The creature had taken a second to savor the moment before suddenly it hugged the girl. Nora's sight was blinded by the creature's black pelt and she let out a yell as she felt a cold hand go into her heart. The girl gasped at how cold it was and before she knew it, she sat blankly as she watched the creature pull out a golden light and transformed it into a clone. Nora sat and stared at the bizarre scene before her and saw the girl sing happily as she ran off into the woods, enjoying her night. Nora blinked once. Twice. Even a third before shaking her head.

Nora frowned as she looked around the forest confused now. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but she felt... Different somehow. She slowly walked around the forest but now instead of it's welcoming hugs she felt a cold silence, as if it had taken away everything that she had loved. It wasn't until the moon was way above her head that it dawned on her what had happened.

"My happiness is gone." She said as she sat down in a calm meadow and stared up at the sky. Oddly enough, unlike her grandfathers, she didn't feel upset. She just felt a loss deep inside her and knew that she had to somehow find that ball of happiness, for that would be where the creature would be at and she'd force it to put it back inside her. Nora slowly sat up and began her long trek across the forest. Nora didn't realize how much she had changed before she had found a trail of footprints and started following it. She suddenly let out a sigh as she noticed that it was now her who was stalking her prey. Nora kind of pitied that clone of hers. Not a few hours prior to it she had been in it's same place. In a whole new world who had admired it. Nora shook herself out of her thoughts and focused on the task at hand.

It wasn't until a faint glow in the distance caught Nora's attention and she knew that she was near. Nora slowly crept up to the girl and didn't stop to think twice as she sat, picking flowers and giggling at the lightning bugs around her. Suddenly she tackled the clone and it let out a shriek before she turned into a bright, golden ball again. The creature was holding it and regarding Nora with an odd look. Nora narrowed her eyes as she let out a fierce growl, no longer scared of the creature that her family had been for so long. "Give me back my happiness!" She said as she inched closer to the creature. It simply held a hand up and instantly Nora felt her anger vanish. "You're different from your ancestors." It spoke slowly as it regarded her with an odd look still. "I don't sense the cold-blooded fiends in you, but instead I feel someone who has became one without the happiness distracting you." Nora narrowed her eyes before taking a step back. "Oh?" She said a bit curtly. "You quickly took control of it.. And used it's skills to track down what you felt like you needed. You weren't miserable at all. You overcame your other emotions and became stronger than anyone else in the family.." It said as it soon looked at her respectfully. "Can you give me back my happiness now?" She asked rather bluntly as she wagged her tail, rather annoyed instead of desperately. The creature frowned as it thought for a long moment. "I can not do that simply because I have your whole family cursed.. But I can give you a little bit of it." Nora's face became blank as she looked at the creature.

"Can I... Will I feel happiness?" She dared ask it. The creature nodded its head. "Yes but very rarely will you feel so. It will be at these moment that you will cherish them forever." It said as it took a chunk of the ball out and placed it back into Nora's heart. She still felt the same though and sighed before feeling her heart warm up slightly, as if telling her that it was in her forever now. "I will never look at light the same way again, though. It is much to bright and happy for me.. So I will come out at night where I will feel one with my surroundings." She spoke slowly. The creature thoughtfully nodded its head again and took out a beautiful greenish ribbon and gave it to her. "You see the world with my eyes now, child." It said as it placed a finger on her head. "For that, I will give you all of your happiness."

The creature found some abandoned lanterns and put the ball of light in them and nodded to her. "These will always light your way through the darkest of nights. They will remind you that you have something there to urge you on.. To make you feel humane." It said before it vanished. Nora perked her ears up and sniffed the smoke before looking at the lanterns. "I don't want to hold these for the rest of my life!" She scoffed before looking at the ribbon. She had an idea.

She untied the ribbon and cut off some of it then tied the lanterns onto her tail and smiled slightly, pleased with her work. She retied the ribbon up to make a pretty bow and picked it up with her teeth and continued onto her journey into the dark forest.

---

Nora now lives on a mountain in the forest. She never returned to her mother's house, for she felt as if she would only make her miserable if she had told her what had really happened. Nora had decided to leave it to her imagination to have her figure out what had happened to her daughter. Nora is rather content now though and is known to wander around the forest at night with her lanterns softly clinking against each other as she explores and smells the deep rich earth. She's now known as the "Lost Child," and Nora doesn't mind that much.

She thinks that it rather suits her quite well, actually.
