Valeria's life long companion is a small owl named Jada.
Valeria's mother found the little owlet after a storm and
brought it home to care for it's injuries. Sadly, some of the
injuries were extensive. Jada's left wing was badly broken in
multiple places and living far from a vet, Valeria's mom had no means
to fully fix the wing. Since then, the wing has not fully healed and
Jada can not fly, hence the fact that Valeria's mom took her in and
Valeria has grown up with her (we are going with that Jada has a
Viscet-like life span).

Personalities:
Jada-
Jada is a smart owl, always doing her best to find different ways
of doing things to compensate for her useless wing. She delights in kindly
pestering Valeria about making stupid mistakes or procrastinating, and
ends up helping the Viscet through her daily problems. Jada doesn't like
to be around other birds, fearful that they will make fun of her for not
being able to fly. But Jada doesn't need other birds, she has Valeria.
Jada likes silence and stillness, contrary to the Viscet she spends her
time with, however, Jada has gotten used to Valeria's ways and gets
her dose of silence when Valeria is sleeping. Jada spends her night on
Valeria's bed post or on the window sill, letting breezes ruffle her feathers.
Jada has also been trying to get Valeria to teach her to read. Jada can
make out things like names and places but longer words and full out
reading is a mystery to her. When Valeria brings home writing
assignments from school (Jada isn't allowed in the building and has
to be content waiting outside) Jada will watch with wide eyes as Valeria
works on them. However, her trance is often broken as she has to get
Valeria focused again and again.

Valeria-
Valeria has a hyperactive mind and ADHD (she takes medicine in the
morning to help with it). She has a hard time focusing and often makes
decisions without thinking them over. Not having much money, Valeria's
only guidance counselor (people with ADHD often have one) for this is Jada,
who by now has gotten quite good at monitoring when Valeria is having
trouble controlling herself. Besides all this, Valeria is quite smart, loving
to spout random facts about everything and read nonstop (this often leads
her to bump into things). Valeria likes trying to bake after finding an old
cupcake book a few years back and delights in accidentally burning things
(which she then makes Jada try) and then pouring icing all over the least
burnt.

A little story of getting up in the morning-
Valeria yawned and snuggled further down into the covers, ignoring the fuzzy
sound of chirping. The young viscet had no intention of getting up today,
maybe not even the next few days. But the chirping got louder, and almost
to the point of annoying rather then faint whispers. "What is it?" Valeria mumbled,
pulling the covers over her head. With only a prick on her shoulder as warning,
the covers were pulled off, reveling the pink Viscet underneath. Valeria met
Jada's deep brown eyes with her blue ones and sighed. "Alright." Valeria pulled
herself up and wandered out of the room. Jada waddled after her. The owl
peered out of the door frame and narrowed her eyes as she didn't see her
friend. Jada fluffed her feathers and changed directions to where she thought
Valeria might be. When the owl reacher her destination, Valeria already had a
checker board set up. "Oh! Jada, let's play checkers!" The viscet beamed at her
friend. Jada was about to clack her beak to let Valeria know that they needed to
get ready to meet Valeria's mom to work at the farm stand (Valeria and her mom
often help selling the fruits and veggies grown at their community garden, which
was where she was now), but Jada pulled a puppy dog face. Jada glared at the girl
but melted under her gaze. Maybe it would be a quick game, Jada thought, trying to
convince herself that they would not spend the next 30 minutes playing. Plopping
down across from Valeria, Jada pushed a red piece forward. The game began.
