This pony is somewhat spring-inspired, based on the leaves of the tropical almond [Terminalia catappa], which turn a lovely red around this time where I am.

The coming of spring is an exciting time,
When snow its self becomes a crime,
So little Red don't you cry,
Cause in days to come birds will fly.

Soon enough his coat grows thin,
Then Spring will truly begin,
Time to play and time to swim
When the days are no longer dim.

Short story:
His eyes glistened as the jump came into view, his ears pricked and he began to stride out, 3....2...1.... soaring. Flying. Dreaming? The young stallion flew sideways as he opened his eyes in the box stall and sighed, it was just a dream, never would be be able to jump so high, but false hope never hurt anyone, right? The sight of light spread into the barn as large doors opened and let the cool autumn breeze drift into it's enclosed walls.

This time it was for real, long strides towards the oxer. Red's legs flt like springs as he pushed off from the ground, flying through the unstoppable air CLINK his foot clipped a bar, with a thud he heard it fall to the ground as he landed. With his hart sinking, it was becoming harder and harder to dream of a time when he could jump as high as the others. The stallion munched sadly on his food that night, listening to the bickering of the other horses when suddenly he made a decision. It was to never give up on what he loved doing, he could still jump, just not at a high level and maybe one day, he would make his way up to the top.

From that night on, the determination of Red meant that he could succeed further than he had ever done before. Soon enough, he was flying over the oxers that he had once feared, his legs touching the soft ground happily as he long forgot the sound of falling poles and the feeling of his sinking heart.
