"You know... there is nothing more tempting than that locked door."

I slowly turned my head from the glowing screen and peered at the individual. "And why would that door be so tempting?" Skepticism laced my voice.

The person's eyes brightened. "Well, what lies beyond its hinges? Surely you have pondered on the mystery that is behind the door. Oh, the things that might have been changed! It's been so long, and there's so much I'd love to see..."

I paused in faux interest, but decided it wasn't worth the effort. "Can't say that I share your sentiments..." With that, my attention shifted towards the flashing type on the suspended hologram. I could practically feel the sulk permeate from the individual.

"Oh, you're no fun. Brighten up a bit! Being cooped up in this room can't be good for you. What we need to do is go out and appreciate the new world." I could sense the individual shift in my direction. I released a drawn out breath and narrowed my eyes, but I didn't look away from the script glowing in front of me.

After a while, I felt the individual's sharp and overly optimistic gaze bore into my back for far too long, and caved. "...You know I don't have a choice in whether or not I can leave or go. I don't have the right."

"And you know that's a lie. You could go out that door any time you wish. You just choose to stay, for what reason, I can't fathom."

"The door is locked."

"Don't be funny; the key's right in front of you!"

"I don't have the right."

"Yes you do, trust me."

"I don't deserve to leave."

"What? That's crazy talk! Of course you do!"

"No, I do not!" I felt my impassive mask break to reveal my inner turmoil. My eyes shined eerily with unshed tears in the blue light of the screen. I couldn't bring myself to face the person. "Don't you see? Don't you see..."

-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-:-

I didn't notice the individual approach until the person's hands cradled my own. I could feel myself trembling. The person's expression was wry when I compelled myself to look. The tone that answered was soft. "No, no. I can't say that I do. And I don't think I ever will. But, I would like to try."

The individual turned towards the screen to look at the flashing script. While I remained silent and shaking, the person started to speak to me. "Now, look in front of you. See, the key is right there. The question is, are you ready to take it?"

I tentatively looked down. The untouched key gleamed surreally with a golden light against the glow of the hologram. My breath caught with a subdued sob, and I squeezed my eyes closed in shame. The back of my nose and eyes burned with stunted moisture.

"Come, now. No one will judge you for leaving, least of all me. I'll be with you all the way." The person's voice remained soft, un-pressuring. I released my hands from the individual's grip to dig the heal of my palms into my burning, burning eyes. My shaky breath caught every few moments, and the urge to moan thrummed in my chest.

As the moments ticked by, the horrid, stifling heat behind my eyes subsided bit by bit, but my hands remained to hide my face. Almost as if sensing my hesitancy, the individual took my wrists and pushed my hands away from my eyes. With doubtful resolution, I stretched my arm out and supported the key on the base of my fingers. The yellow metal was warm against my chilled fingers.

In a daze, I turned my head to peer at the person. The individual's gaze was terribly warm, terribly beautiful, and so terribly familiar. The sheer urge to wail came back full force, and before I could react....

Yeah that's all I got now ;w;
