Behind the scars:
"I got these scars from a powerful evil. One that only the bravest of warriors would dare to fight, a beast that blocked the sun with a wretched darkness. A power named, Zetsumei. I was tired of the wicked shadow's reign so I ambushed the monster in the night and banished it to the realm of emptiness. It was a challenge, but I was determined to bring it to the hands of justice. The demon attacked me, it ripped at my flesh and left me gnarled and injured, but I sent him away with the last of my power. These scars are a reminder of the ordeal, but I know that emptiness cannot hold Zetsumei forever. Itsu, I am handing down my katana to you." The doll placed the sword into the child's hands. "You have a power greater than my own, I know you will guard the relm better than I ever could. Go child, harness your power and be the warrior you were created to be."

Darkness filled the night, not a single thing could be seen. A small flicker of light sparked suddenly but vanished just as quickly. Then it returned, this time it stayed and grew into a small flame which illuminated the face of a young doll, his expression of great joy. "Praise the heavens," a voice chimed, "you finally did it without singeing your hair." The doll smirked as a fan entered the light. "This is great, Kurayami! This means I can finally be the warrior Musha always wanted me to be." Silence rung through the air until Kurayami spoke, "I know this is great news," she said, "but it's a great deal of responsibility guarding a literal demon prison. Don't you think, y'know, you should practice some more?" The doll nodded, " I am aware of the responsibility and I agree, I am in need of stronger magic before I put myself in front of Zetsumei's prison." A small sigh of relief came from the fan. "I'm glad you understand the risks, Itsu."

Morning came slowly as the sun rose over the mountains and into the valley. Itsu was already awake, tending to the large sheep outside his small home. It had been years since his first flame and the doll was powerful enough in his own eyes to count himself as a warrior. Today was the day he'd start his guard at the gates of the realm of emptiness. Once the sheep were fed he packed a small bag with some of his belongings; a shawl, a pair of sandals, a large straw hat, some paper, ink, a pen, and his most treasured possession; Master Musha's katana. Slipping the sword into its sheath he put on his bag and began his journey by foot.
"You know you could always just stay home with the sheep. Live a normal life, one away from death and demons." Kurayami said suddenly, breaking the silence. "While it is tempting to live without a care in the world, I prefer to live up to my calling and protect the dolls of this realm. It's my destiny and I plan on making Musha proud." Itsu said calmly as he continued walking, the cold air nipping at his nose and cheeks. It was silent once more as the doll walked, only once the sun began to set was when he stopped to rest. "Use your magic and make us a fire." The fan said as she lay on the doll, Itsu laughed as he spoke. "Heh, I know a fire would be good, but I'm afraid not tonight. I'd like to save my magic for when I really need it." Kurayami groaned, "fine." She snarled as she folded up. The two fell into slumber quickly but neither dreamt a dream.

Days passed before the two found themselves standing in front of the gates that lead to the realm of emptiness. "Welp. We're doomed." Kurayami said blatantly, Itsu looked at her and smiled softly. "We are not doomed, have faith in me and yourself. Besides, I am a warrior trained to battle this evil, I am confident I can guard the gates with great strength." He placed a hand on the shadow, "I won't let anything happen to you. I promise."

Itsu was true to his word, he kept his companion safe and comforted while they guarded the gates. However, their peace did not last long.

One night while Kurayami was resting, Itsu was greeted in his dreams by a dark force. It showed him visions of his failure, the death of his town, and worst, the death of Kurayami. The force claimed all this would happen because of him, but he could stop it by opening the gates of the prison behind him. Scared, Itsu awoke from his slumber and walked to the gate and put his hands on the bars. "Open this prison." The force said within the doll's mind, "Release your fate." The doll shook as he stepped away from the gate. "No." He whispered. "I will protect my people from your lies you wicked creature." Silence. "Very well than foolish one. I guess I will have to open these gates my self." The force growled coldly. Itsu began to walk forward to the gates, his arm stretched out. "Wh-! How is this happening?" He stammered out horrified; he couldn't feel himself, all he could feel was pain, a pain that rushed through his body. The gate swung open with his help, a menacing darkness gushing out as he stood idle and helpless. He could no longer speak as he unwillingly turned toward his friend, she lay opened on the ground, the design on her panels moving rapidly in terror.

Itsu could see himself moving closer, "All you do is bring me down. See what happened! The gates are opened and Zetsumei has been released. All because you were foolish enough to sleep!" He snapped angrily, fire coursing through his body, but he didn't mean any of it. It wasn't him. "I..." Kurayami squeaked before getting tossed closer to the gates. The doll began to shout horrible lies to the fan, but Itsu wasn't listening, the fire circulating through his body was too much to bare along with this corruption. 'Fire!' He thought suddenly. As the doll spoke his eyes and skin began to glow as sparks flew from his hands. "Stop it you imbecile!" He screamed as he clawed at his cheeks, fire burst out of his eyes and hands, burning his clothing as he screamed in agony. "Kurayami- I'm sorry. I- I broke my promise." Itsu said between gasps as he tried to regain possession of his body. Soon the doll was ingulfed in powerful flames as he struggled with the demon inside of him. Retaining the little control he had left, he stumbled painfully to the gates. "I'm sorry, Kurayami..." He spat out sadly as he turned to face her, " I will see you soon." With this he stepped into the emptiness leaving smoldering ash and his shadow behind.

The small fan cried loudly as she tried to believe Itsu's last words. There was no way he could leave her in such horrifying conditions. She waited for days for her doll to return, her hope of him ever returning diminishing as every hour dragged on. Once a week had passed she had completely given up, she began to leave until she heard the charred gate behind her squeak. "Kurayami?" She heard a voice ask. Turning around she saw Itsu standing wearily in the opening of the gates, his body badly scarred by his burns and his clothes tattered and ruined. "Itsu!" She screamed as she flew toward him, she smacked against his chest as she began to sob, "Oh Itsu, I thought you had died! Please don't leave me again." The doll placed his hands on the fan and smiled reassuringly. "I know I couldn't keep my first promise, but I hope you can forgive me. I swear upon the name of every spirit in and beyond this realm that I will never leave you again." His smile grew weak as he continued, closing the gate as he spoke. "I am sorry for how I acted. I let my guard down in the night and Zetsumei found a way to corrupt my body. I didn't mean anything I said back then, I-" He was interrupted by Kurayami, "Stop. It's ok, I forgive you. You risked your life to destroy that power, I owe you everything! Itsu, you are a warrior even more powerful than the one Musha thought you'd ever be. You're willing to die if it meant the world could be safe, that's a true hero." They stood in strained silence before Itsu spoke. "I'm glad you still see me a doll worthy of the title "warrior"." He stood up defiantly and smiled. "Hey, every great warrior has their scars," He said, "and I have a story tell about mine, just like Master Musha."
Place of stay:
After the ordeal at the gates of the realm of emptiness, Itsu lives back in his small home in the mountain valley. His home is wooden with sliding wooden doors, his realm's symbol for peace carved and painted onto them. A flat roof made of wood and tin provides him shade on bright summer days, a stone pourch in the front gives him a place to stand and watch the rain in fall.
The floors of his home are bamboo with a weaving pattern like parquet, the walls are a cream with multiple complex designs painted on them, all of which tie into the valley's belief of spirits. Inside he has a bonsai and outside he has a large amount of bamboo and colorful plants. A large open field houses his many large sheep and a stone pathway leads to an arch that welcomes dolls onto his land.
Songs:Before Kurayami was abandoned by her original owners and later taken in by Itsu, she memorized dozens of songs that would play within her home. Dearly missing the songs, she taught them to Itsu; he now sings them when he wants some peace and comfort in his otherwise quiet home. He also sings them to Kurayami when she's feeling down because he knows it cheers her up.
A few of the songs Itsu enjoys singing are:
-
「Summertime Record」を歌ってみた【Mafumafu】-
【Mafumafu】「The World's Lifespan and the Last Day」 歌ってみたAnd his favorite,
-
いかないで / Ikanaide 【まふまふ / Mafumafu】Kurayami loves it when Itsu uses his fire when he speaks, "It helps visualize the tales he tells me," she claims, "It's really fun to see him craft his fire into different shapes."

Itsu and Kurayami have been good companions for an extremely long time. The doll found the little fan buried in other old and forgotten items, but something clicked inside of the doll when he found her, he felt like the two of them belonged together. So he took her home well before he ever knew fire magic.
Many memories are shared between the two, good and bad. They have even been told they act somewhat like "siblings" by other dolls and it makes Itsu smile from ear to ear, Kurayami laughs happily.

Fall
Rain poured down outside of the home of Itsu and Kurayami. "Fall." The doll told himself as he watched from his pourch, the tin roof protecting him from the skies tears. Today was a day of relaxation, even the birds did not sing on this day, for they rested in the trees and meadows. A little flame ignited the dim light of the outdoors; Itsu had created a small fire. The small ember licked the sky as it danced around the doll's hands, it changed into the shape of a fox on command and the doll smiled. He knew his friend would like this. "Kurayami." He spoke calmly through the open door, "I have something to show you." Exiting the frame, the little fan floated onto Itsu's shoulder, her pattern moving wildly in the shape of a flame. "Itsu! That's amazing!" She chirped happily as she bobbed up and down.
"Rest with me." The doll said happily. The two sat in the open frame of the door and watched the rain as it hit the stone pathway. Sitting side by side, they drifted off into the calming serenity of the world around them. "Fall." Itsu smiled, his eyes closed. "The most peaceful of seasons."
