Rescue Story: Each week Rin sat at her computer, filing images of horses in auctions and kill pens across the United States. It terrified her and made her sick each night worrying over every soul, but she was only one person and the amount of horses in her care would suffer if she took on more. At Maple Ridge she had borders and workers, but she had exhausted many of her connections trying her best to find homes for so many unwanted animals. And it never stopped, backyard breeders, people looking for Christmas money or drug money, stolen horses, the list went on and on. But each week she tried her best, and often full loads would be kept from crossing state lines with the help of many others who saw the plight of these animals. She fought at congress trying to get bills passed that would keep U.S. horses out of the slaughter factories. But she had been given the go ahead finally to look for a horse for her husband, who was not the best rider. Pouring through thousands of entries she found pictures of a worn down, but young stallion, she knew he was grey and his legs looked clean and steady but these were just pictures from a Pennsylvania kill pen, no description no handling, a gamble. Would he even survive through the shipping fever, were there other problems that you couldn't see past the muddied exterior? Rin always hated paying the inflated amounts on these horses, the kill buyer would get them at auction for little to nothing maybe $25, and then turn around and tease you with a chance to save them for only $900, all profit on another's misery, but he had slipped through and if someone wanted him this would be the only way. Something about his eyes drew her in, but she would have to purchase him sight unseen except for these dim, terrible angled pictures. Her husband peeked around the corner just as she was about to move on to the next pen of horses singing badly to his favorite song Pompeii, he stole a look at the stallion and his eyes lit up. "Rin, do what you have to do, we are making a trip to Pennsylvania to pick him up." She looked up at him, swearing he had to be joking, but he was dead serious, "He's the one I want, don't tell me it's a bad idea, I won't listen" So she dialed up the information found a shipper that was willing to transport a "dirty load" (The possibility of sick/ contaminated horses from auction) And went outside to set up a quarantine area, he would need alot of work, that is if he even survived his first month. But inside she was truly happy to have gotten him something made her pay attention, something drew her to him, maybe in time she would find out what mysteries he had to share.
