CWHR: Sooty Buckskin Overo

Postby ImmyWimmy1 » Sat Feb 27, 2016 12:06 am

Seren, I'm sorry! I started off with a plain buckskin and kept adding genes and I didn't realise what I did until it was too late to undo all my work- the colouration was not deliberate I swear!!! ;n;

So I logged on to CS to see that the website is celebrating "Tell a Fairytale Day" today (be sure to pick up some of the adorable puppies made by Pluma). With my love for all things fantasy and magic, I couldn't help but get inspired and create this mare for the Cottonwood community!

This mare is a Friesian Sporthorse, meaning she has a mixture of another breed (in this case an American Quarter Horse) as well as Friesian in her genetics. Besides improving her athleticism, her AQH blood gives her a flashier, more striking coat than that of her Friesian lineage. However she still retains the flowing mane, tail and, though somewhat reduced, feathering of her graceful Baroque ancestry. This girl is truly the picture of sophistication and elegance, potentially excelling in equestrian sports such as dressage or western pleasure.

NB- I did want to make some fantasy, or at least some pretty dressage, tack for her, but I do have a lot of assignments to get through here at University sadly. However if the winner wants to we can discuss the addition of tack at a later date. I will probably charge a payment for it, but I will implement a discount.

~~~
To add her to your stables you need to fill out the form below. Now because this horse is to celebrate 'Tell a Fairytale Day' there are a few things you might want to take into account (because judging, MWUHAHAHAHAHA!!! >:D ):
> She doesn't have to have a fairytale-based show/barn name, but if you do use one, especially for the show name, you will get bonus points!
> For the 'Gif from OUAT' section, I want you to find me a gif from the ABC TV show Once Upon A Time. If you don't know about the show, it's basically where lots of fairytale characters, such as Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood and Rumplestiltskin, end up getting trapped in our world after a curse banishes them all from the fairytale world. It's not got the best writing and/or animation ever, but because of the fantasy and Disney references my housemates and I love it!
> Do you like The Ugly Duckling for its moral? Or perhaps you like the magic behind a tale such as The Frog Prince? Tell me which fairytale captures your imagination most and why!
> So the last bit may prove a little trickier for some people (which is why it's optional), but it's not called 'Tell a Fairytale Day' for no reason! You have to come up with your own short fairytale, using any characters, settings, morals and plot of your choice. It can be of any length and of any level of grammar. I will be marking any entries for this section mainly for their creativity and I'm really excited to see what you guys could come up with (I know there are some fantastic writers in the community!!!) You will get loads of bonus marks for attempting this section, so even if you don't feel like you're the best writer in the world please feel free to give it a go! :mrgreen:
What is your favourite fairytale and why?:
My favorite would have to be the classic; Cinderella.
Why?
Cinderella was raised with two stepsisters and stepmother who treated her unfairly and terribly after her father's death. Despite being treated so unkindly, she showed no resentment or hostility towards them. It teaches us that even if we are treated terribly by people, we should still be kind and thoughtful to all. Even to this day, I can honestly say that this is something that I haven't been able to do thoroughly.
Short Fairytale (Optional):
In the Kingdom of Zen, it was ruled by a great king. He was loved by everyone, citizens, soldiers, castle helpers and even princes, kings and more from outside the kingdom. Reason being was simple, he was kind and thoughtful. As the years went by, he was starting to get old and it was time to choose a new heir to the throne. He had three sons. It was supposed that the heir would be the oldest, Shuu. However, Shuu was a lazy prince. All he ever does was laze around and sleep all day. His only interested was music that was played in town. This brought forth a competition for the throne by the King.
Each son was to prove their worthiness of being the next King.
The youngest went to various kingdoms and towns to help the business of Zen while the middle son went to slay a dragon to steal it's hoard of treasure. Shuu was unfazed by this and couldn't be the least bit bothered by the competition.
"What a stupid idea." "It's such a nuisance." He would always say.
One day, the King and princess of a nearby kingdom, Arav paid a visit. They chat and had tea. As Shuu was walking past the garden, he noticed the princess, Zaira. She was the most beautiful maiden he had set his eyes on. Zaira noticed and excused herself from the Kings while they were talking about their business. She made her way to Shuu and introduced herself. Needless to say, Zaira took a liking to Shuu too. They started talking about their interests and hobbies but Shuu mainly replied with his love for relaxation and music. Zaira found it adorable. After their visit, Shuu would be back to normal, lazing around but his mind was set on the princess.
A few months later, news had spread that Zaira was captured and held hostage by a Giant. He was looking for money in exchange for the princess. If Zaira's father does not comply, Zaira would never be able to go back.
Furious was an understatement when Shu heard of it. He got off his bed, went to the armory and donned his armor and retrieved his sword. He packed the essentials, mounted his horse and sped off towards the direction of the mountains. That alone was the most productive thing the king had ever seen his son do.
Finding the giant was easy, he got off at a distance and made his way quietly towards the giant. Years of lazing around had heightened his sense of hearing to avoid being caught by his family members and other guards when they were ordered to search for said prince. Zaira was locked up in a steel cage under lock and key while the giant was preparing a fire. With the giant's back towards Shuu, he ran up towards the giant and slashed his back. The giant bellowed and stood up, easily towering over Shuu. The giant was at least five times taller than Shuu. The fight ensued but after a while, Shuu felt that he was fighting a losing battle as he slowly started to tire out and become slower.
Shuu collapsed on the ground from exhaustion as the giant lumbered over to crush him with his foot. He took one more look at Zaira. She was crying as she looked at him. Just then, she screamed out to Shuu "Stop giving up and give yourself another fighting chance!" That took Shuu aback and directed the giant's attention at the princess. Shuu quickly got up and analyzed the place carefully. It was surrounded by tall rocks and boulders. He got an idea and clambered on top of the tallest rock he could find, closest to the giant.He yelled for the giant's attention and immediately got a response as the giant went towards Shuu, who was standing at his chest. Just as the giant was about the grab Shuu, he dodged it, ran up his arm and landed a swift slash at the giant's neck. The giant belted a gurgled yell as he breathed his last breath. Shuu retrieved the keys from the giant and freed the princess.
They returned to Zen where both kings were overjoyed by the return of the princess.
It was chosen that Shuu was the next crowned king and Zaira would be his queen. The younger brothers were depressed as they both worked hard and helped increase the kingdom's business trades and finance (by slaying the dragon). Shuu knew his brothers did what they could and placed the youngest in charge of the kingdom's business trades and the middle son in charge of the kingdom's finance. Zen was in safe hands and everyone could agree on that.
THE END
What is your favourite fairytale and why?:
My favorite fairytale would have to be the story of 'Beauty and the Beast'. I found so much inspiration from this story growing up. To know that people aren't always what they seem on the outside had a great effect on me and my choices toward others. Seeing people of all different shapes and sizes come together to help each other just melts my heart. I try to live by the rule of treating others the way you would want to be treated and some of my best friends (who may seem tough or distant) are actually the best people with the largest hearts I've ever know. Don't judge a book by its cover, but instead read its pages and try to understand its story. They may just surprise you.
Short Fairytale (Optional):
There once was a young girl who lived with her family in the glittering caverns of a mountain city. She wished to see the sun, so one day she dared the rocky stoop up to the broken crag of the mountainside. She was so overjoyed to see the bright yellow ball of light that she played in its warmth and wandered into the woods, quickly becoming lost in the dense forest. As the sun disappeared behind the peaks of her home she began to shiver and cried out. Something did hear her pleas, but it wasn't a friend as a large white bear came out of the trees with a roar. She ran deeper into the forest and just as the massive beast was upon her, a big cat, a tiger, came to her aid and defended her. The cat defeated the bear, but was badly injured. The girl, grateful to the magnificent creature, tended to its wounds and after a day and a night under her care, it lead her back to her home and stayed there, forever her protector.
What is your favourite fairytale and why?: This is such a hard question, but I definitely have a fairytale that's super special to me. East of the Sun, West of the Moon, is a Norwegian fairytale that I've loved since I was young. In this fairytale, the female lead (known only as "the youngest daughter" or " the girl" in the original tale) goes on a journey to rescue the prince she accidentally doomed. Many fractured fairytales nowadays have the princess saving the prince, and while I love this, I love that, from the beginning, East & West featured this story. I also adore the title of the tale, it's so poetic and enchanting. I love this fairytale so much, I'm writing a four novel series based on it. :3 I also love fairytales that personify animals or nature, and this fairytale features talking winds with big personalities. The main character also goes through a series of trials to rescue the prince from the queen of the trolls.
Short Fairytale:
Once, a poor widow and her many children were in desperate need of money for food. Despairing, the widow sent off her oldest daughter, named Isra, with hopes she could find employment and send money back for her younger siblings and old mother. The teenage girl set out on a search for employment, but was turned away again and again. Ashamed and fearful for her family's lives, the girl was about to give up when a cook approached her in the marketplace. The cook warned that the house she worked for was unusual, but the girl jumped at the chance for any bit of earned coin. She followed the cook, to discover that the cook worked in a castle. The king, master of the castle, had recently remarried a woman who made all the servants jumpy. Something was off about the mysterious new queen. The king had a son, who spent his hours avoiding his new stepsister's overwhelming affections.
Isra, now a maid, was not too comfortable in her new residence, but she was grateful for the money to send back. As a few years passed, her family was getting by well, and she had grown used to avoiding the mistress for fear of her wrath. The king took ill, however, and soon passed away. Overnight, the castle's atmosphere went from uncomfortable to tense. Gossip and rumors rustled down the halls just like the careful feet who avoided the queen more than ever. One morning, the castle erupted into chaos. Shouting and rumbling came from the great hall, and when servants and guards ran to end whatever struggle had occurred, they were greeted by quite a sight- the ripped clothes of the prince on the floor, over which stood a large polar bear, who was groaning and trembling. The queen had transformed into a frightening troll, wielding a long staff. She roared at all the servants that from here on out, the castle and all its inhabitants were cursed. Until the prince could meet a set of conditions, he would remain a bear during the day, and would only become a man at night. Unless he could get a girl to spend a year in the castle, without discovering his true identity and the existence of the curse. The castle would be hidden away and wiped from the memories of the surrounding people.
"Of course, I'm not heartless. The prince cannot leave without his staff, after all." The troll queen cackled, and bright light surrounded each of the servants present, turning them into a variety of creatures. The guards became a pack of dogs, the cook became a bleating sheep. Isra peered around the curtain, gasping in horror at the sudden transformations, before she felt a sharp pain in her hands, spreading through her whole body. She began to shrink, and shut her eyes tight until the creaking of her bones ground to a halt. She shivered, looking down at her hands, which were now tiny paws. The great hall looked like a whole county rather than a single room to her. Her whiskers trembled as her berry-like eyes stared at the whining dogs that were once the castle's protectors. The troll queen was nowhere to be seen, and her daughter had disappeared as well. She could see the mountain of fur that was the heir to the castle, bemoaning his new fate. Her heart beat far too fast for her chest. She couldn't go home as a mouse. She couldn't leave the castle. Tiny, squeaking sobs wracked her soft dun-colored body as the day wore on.
Decades passed, and no one in the castle aged. Every day, they wandered around the castle as beasts, still aware of their human selves that would they would only assume after sundown. A few girls were brought, but most gave up or fled in fright after a few days or weeks. As time wore on, everyone sank further into despair. Isra had a particularly hard time. She was the smallest of the shifted servants, and daily routines became extremely dangerous when one was smaller than a bread crust. With every year, Isra knew that her family was growing older, and possibly passing on, with no knowledge of what had happened to their older sister.
Then, with only a year left before time was up, the prince returned with a new girl. The new girl, Kestrel, had offered herself up in exchange for her family, and the servants felt hope creeping back up with every week she stayed. Months passed, and there were only days left until they would all be free. Most of the servants practically danced around the castle, careful not to let the girl see them (per instruction), but leaving her tiny gifts out of gratitude. Isra wanted this business to be over, but she feared knowing what had happened to her family after a hundred years had passed. They would be gone by now, and she did not know where she would go after this.
Dawn rose on the last day, but with it came the castle's ruin. The castle began to crack apart, and all the servants fled, having just turned into their animal forms. The girl had failed, and with only a day left, there was no time to begin again. The curse had not been broken, and now the troll queen came to decide their fates for once and for all. Isra had shifted in the middle of the long hall, surrounded by falling marble blocks and dust that made her eyes water furiously. She was ready to curl up in a ball and give up when a pair of hands scooped her up, as the bear-prince and the girl who was once their only hope for salvation dashed for the exit. The girl had paused their flight to save Isra. They came to the foyer, only discovering a large pillar blocking the door. Not even the powerful bear could move the pillar. They were stuck. As the castle fell down around them, Isra spoke up in her tiny, squeaky voice, telling them of a servant's exit hidden behind a tapestry. The trio barely escaped, falling out into the world, just lit up by the sunrise. A chariot pulled by great dark bulls stood before them, with a smirking troll queen, not the least bit aged, standing before them. She took the prince away with her to her realm, to marry her daughter. The prince gave the human girl one last, sad look as his polar-bear self, before disappearing in a flash of light with the queen and the chariot.
Kestrel, coated in dust and coughing, gently set Isra on the ground. A few tears rolled down her cheeks, and she murmured to the little mouse-maid. "I'm sorry. This...I think this is because of me."
Isra felt sorry for her, as the girl had been kept in the dark and did not understand the wide repercussions of her actions. "Come with me, Kestrel." She led her to a cave where the servants, all in animal form, crouched, looking miserable and dejected. The troll queen had not removed their curse, and they were doomed to remain apart from human society forever. After explaining the curse to the girl, they sat and watched as the girl seemed to argue with herself internally. Finally, Kestrel stood up.
"I'm going to get the prince back. I'll go to this place, this land of the trolls, and figure out a way to break the curse over him, and all of you."
Isra, along with one of the guard dogs, accompanied Kestrel to the road where she would begin her journey. The guard dog left her with some abrasive advice, per usual, but Isra had something else to say. She grasped Kestrel's fingertip with her tiny paw, and squeaked as loud as she could to her. "I believe that you can do this." Kestrel smiled gratefully and turned to set out, and the two enchanted animals watched her go, full of warring doubt and hope. Isra was not sure if she would ever be free of the curse, and she knew that her siblings no longer waited for her, but she was not ready to give up hope just yet.
They will, hopefully one day, live happily ever after.
I want to leave a note, I know this isn't a full tale, but I took the beginning of my new fairytale novel series based on the afore-mentioned tale (I am changing A LOT from the original), and put it from the little mouse's point of view. I love this little mouse character and really loved using this chance to flesh her out a little bit! (I may even include and edited/fixed version of this for the book XD) Sorry it's a bit rushed!
Hey, I don't hate sooty buckskins! She is soooo gorgeous, and being a fractured fairytale lover/writer, of course I want to try out! :3
I guess Rapunzel would have to be my favorite. I love her spunk and curiosity and how she is always ready for a fight. In a way, she kinda reminds me of myself. I have no idea what else to add...
Might add if I have enough time/inspiration.
One week left before judging guys! Really enjoying the fairytales everyone has put up so far! :D
Btw if people are struggling and feel they need more time, please let me know. I know how busy this time of year can be for those in school/college/University/other! If 50% or more of the people trying out ask for an extension I'll add a few more days onto the deadline.
Apologies for the slight delay in judging guys! Friday was a little crazier than expected! XD
Anyway, time for me to announce our winner. By no means was it easy: the fairy tales everyone had written were all a joy to read and it was very hard to judge. It was evident to see the amount of work that had gone into everybody's sections and I'm very proud of you all! :thumbup:
But in the end I had to pick a winner, so after careful consideration I have decided to name SerenWish the winner of this particular contest! Though your tale was not completed, the attention to detail and the way you weaved the plot together was phenomenal and had me hooked from start to finish! I'd love to read more if you have any my dear!!! :3 <3 Congratulations!!! :mrgreen: :clap:
Honourable mentions go out to DarkestWerewolf and ScarletFang for their wonderful tales too! Your stories were also a great pleasure to read and, should the occasion arise, I'd love to see more of your creative writing in the near future! :clap:
Thank you to everyone who participated and have a nice day! :D <3 xxx
