Story:
Wind whipped wildly through the canyon, lashing at Canis' violet mane as the Viscet gazed determinedly ahead at the rocky canyon. Behind her, Lupus swept low to the ground, it's mouth clamped shut as it surveyed the area through the soft fur that coated it. "Are you ready?" Canis looked back at her tail with a devious grin.
"I've always been. Let's do this!" Lupus raised its head. This is what made Canis such an odd ball. Not only did her tail have a mouth, but it could speak and think on its own. Most viscets got scared around her, but she could only see it as a beautiful gift of an eternal friend.
Canis leapt off the ground, sailing over the edge of the canyon and angling down. She swooped through the air as effortless as an eagle in flight. Her eyes locked onto the ledge that bore paw prints from her previous landings. She swung her hind legs below her and braced herself for impact. As usual, she landed effortlessly on the platform, rolling her body to transfer the force of the impact. "Woo hoo! Another one down!"
"C-Canis!" Lupus spoke up just as the ground beneath the two crumbled and cracked apart, sending them tumbling down the canyon wildly. Canis choked on panic and flailed about, uncertain of what to do, only to come to a jerking halt as Lupus bit a tree that was jutting out from the canyon edge. They dangled for a while, Canis panting heavily as she stared down the steep cliff wall.
"Look around!"
Canis swept her eyes around them, locking onto a large platform to the left. "Hang on!" She kicked the rock wall and began swaying. With every sway, she kicked again until the angle was perfect. "Now!" At her command, Lupus released the tree and the two sailed through the air before landing clumsily on the platform.
"Yeah! That's my girl!"
Canis stood up and grinned. "Now, we climb!" She jumped up and latched onto the rocky surface with her forepaws before proceeding to climb. Behind her, Lupus raised its head and bit onto branches, holding onto them before letting go and moving to the next one incase Canis lost her grip. Finally, Canis reached over the edge of the cliff and climbed out, her legs flailing behind her slightly as she sprawled onto the flat ground. The two laid on the ground, panting and exhausted. "That was awesome!" Canis flailed at the last word in excitement.
"Perhaps, but let's not do it again for a while." Lupus rose and faced Canis, who grinned cheerfully at it in return.
"Oh your no fun!"
"Canis! I'm se-" In the blink of an eye, Lupus was on the ground, sprawled strangely to resemble a leopard tail movement. It closed its mouth and forced the small tuf of fur on its head to flatten, forcing itself to look like a fluffy leopard tail. A moment later, two viscets padded through the bushes.
Canis rolled over and stood up. She watched the viscets hesitantly, before beginning to pad away from them. The viscets gave her an odd look, the taller one keeping his eyes locked on Lupus. Canis felt her fur bristle slightly and she picked up the pace. As she passed them, she gave the two a sweet smile and waved slightly before jogging out of sight. There, she bolted, Lupus suddenly springing to life as it curled up against her to prevent its head from getting knocked around by her movements.
"That was too close..." Canis looked back at her eternal companion nervously.
"I agree. We need to be more careful... We don't want the problem to start again..."
"Yeah..."
Canis and LupusCanis and Lupus have a twisted relationship to say the least. Canis is the action, adventure, wild half while Lupus is the logical, noble, and proud half. The two are best depicted as Yin and Yang. There are times where they are fire and water, raging and dueling constantly over the slightest things, and other times where they get along in perfect harmony.
Canis and Lupus were born attached, of course, and it is believed that the two were supposed to be twins, but a mutation occurred before they were born and so a talking tailed Viscet was born. Many viscets lived in fear of the two, others worshiped them. Legends were born and myths spread like rumors, tainting the minds and tongues of viscets that heard and believed the words. Soon after their birth, Canis and Lupus had to evacuate their home and travel in solitude, never being near others. Though, avoiding other viscets 100% of the time was impossible, so when they were approached, Lupus would tighten its mouth and drop to the ground resembling a very fluffy snow leopard tail, which, oddly enough, is a more accepted mutation.
Despite all of their arguments, Canis and Lupus are, quite literally, inseparable and have found a way to work around their differences. Together, they are the unstoppable team, a duo that can't be broken. When faced with a trial, it's best to turn to these two. Though your answer may come in the form of a riddle, it might also be the most intellectual thing you have ever heard. Or the dumbest. That happens sometimes.
