Palette;; Corrupted YouthLegend tells of a vaiki with a kitsune plume of tails following behind it. Many decades ago, when the world was still fresh and new, it was said that the kitsune had a role in the construction of the world's magic. More mundane things, like the crackle of fire, the twinkle of stars, the first spark of love-- the things people call 'magical' were the work of the kitsune crafting them into existence. The kitsune was said to be an assistant of the heavens, one sent to help make the world beautiful-- to paint with its five tails the beauty that the world needed to compliment itself. The kitsune was one of many helpers who added to the world, each adding their own touch and wonder to it.
In those days of old, there used to be temples and elegant shrines to commemorate each of the mystical figures, the helpers, etceteras-- the kitsune had one of these, as well. A large, beautiful thing-- ornate marble and beautiful stones added a magical feeling to it-- one that stood to represent all the magic and lovely things that the kitsune had brought to the world.
However, as time passed and people moved away from superstition, the temple fell into a state of neglect. People no longer clung to the legends and tales of old, they instead believed in other things, or were simply too wrapped up in the world to care anymore. The kitsune was forgotten, as well as many other figures that used to hold such a dear place to the hearts of the people. What was once fact, now became legend-- a passing story-- nothing more than a whisper-- then nothing at all.
The kitsune watched from the skyward palace the helpers dwelled within, gazing listfully at the earth with wise eyes. It had seen many things in its years, indeed-- it had seen faith and hopelessness, love and war, all the good and bad the world had to offer had been played before its eyes as a play before an audience. It had even walked among them-- four times, it had walked the earth-- and each time it did, its physical 'form' was given a tail-- as if to represent the greater deity it represented.
The kitsune knew that it only had one more incarnation left-- with only one more tail to offer. The kitsune looked at the masses of the faithless and thought to itself. Each time it reincarnated, it was to help the people remember the beauties and simpler things-- to soothe the bloodlust of man and instead supplement peace and compassion. The kitsune thought to itself that the world needed its aid oncemore, whether it was trapped in the sky after this case mattered not-- it was simply a necessary task.
Ritzkah was the name she was given this time, and born into a female body she was left without much memory of whatever realm she had come from. Her five tails left others puzzled, but she would simply smile and wave off their concerns-- as it never mattered much to her. When it was born into her last mortal body, the kitsune knew it would have no power-- it had only one incarnation left, and with each one its magic in the mortal realm faded. As such, Ritzkah was powerless, but not at all hopeless.
She was an optimistic, cheerful girl with a vigor and passion for life few could rival. Wise beyond her years, Ritzkah was always striving to know and achieve-- to better herself in some way. She was an odd and eccentric vaiki in her youth, a trait that did not soon abandon her. She was a child of love and affection, born into a peaceful land with an equally peaceful heart. She was soothed by her gentle environment, and groomed into a snug and wonderful reality.
It took her a good while to notice how hollow some people were. In her adulthood, Ritzkah started to travel around from place to place-- her curiousity prompting her to see what she could of the world. Mortality never concerned Ritzkah, she didn't dwell on it long when the thoughts occured to her-- but she wanted to observe the gorgeous things the world had to show her. This exploring of hers took her all over the place, and to many towns, cities, expanses of forest and endless land.
Ritzkah picked up on subtle things others might miss. She caught those glimpses of emptiness in some people, the hopelessness trapped behind the orbs of their eyes. Ritzkah found herself rather adept at detecting the emotions of others-- she later learned that this was called empathy. Ritzkah was drawn to this, and attempted to aid others in any way she could. She could not help everyone, of course, and often found herself at a loss-- and in need of guidance on how to help those around her.
Her wandering led her, eventually, to the temple of the kitsune. She felt a spark within her ignite, standing before the looming building-- and she quickly slipped inside. Wandering up to a large marble statue of the kitsune in all its glory, she stared in wonder at the deity.
She fixed the temple up and started to take up living in it. She encouraged others to come to the temple as well-- though... for another reason than it was created. Ritzkah used the temple as a place to counsel others and offer advice to those who asked. She housed many books within the temple, decorating its walls with tall shelves and a rolling ladder to boot.
Ritzkah chose to live her life helping others in the way she could, rather than obsessing over what she failed to accomplish, she chose to attempt to bring light into the hearts of those who sought it and reconvince them of the beauty of the world. She rekindled hope in the hopeless, and cast her small rays of hope over the temple.
