Baltic Winters Sled Dog Association: Rescue Round Up

This pup is very big and appears to be crosses with another larger breed, meaning this guy will be fixed. But they have a lovely temperament, they seem rather ignorant though and doesn't appear to learn quickly.

Task 1 - Welcoming your new dog home - Complete
Nanook walked down the side of packed down snow trail. The sky was dark, the air was crisp and fresh. Below there was snow and ice patches everywhere. It was for sure winter. His tail trailing behind him, his ears drooped, and his paws dragged. His tummy gave a large growl and pain shot through his ribs. He was so hungry, he would eat rotten bird meat if he had to. He looked up from the trail, he saw a faint glow in the distance. He was way to weak to run or hide, he watched the glow get closer. Nanook stopped walking and his legs collapsed from underneath him. He tried to get back up but his legs just wouldn't move. His head fell to the ground and he closed his eyes in pain. Nanook felt hunger cramps run through his rib cage all the way to his rump. He let out a huge yelp and opened his eyes, the glow was brighter than ever. He was very desperate to get up this time, he gave a big heave but his body didn't move. Nanook let out a small whine and set his head on the ground. This was the end, he thought to himself. He closed his eyes and listened to the forest, the noise of the coming light. The noise was very weird, he listen to it for a few seconds then he heard a alarming bark. Nanook opened his eyes just enough to see what the barking was coming from. It was a dog team, he looked at the many dogs that were lined up and hooked into line. A female human with a fluffy parka and a head lamp on walked up to him. It poked him in the side, he gave a slight whine. It picked him up from the snow and walked over to the sled with him in her arms. She lightly set him down and unzipped the sled pouched and picked him up and set him inside the sled. She zipped up the pouch and the sled began moving again. Nanook began shaking with fear, he wasn't quit sure what was happing and he didn't know what was going to happen. He then pasted out, not knowing what happened after that. He woke up in a room of a large house. It was very warm inside the room, underneath him was soft fur-like snow. But it wasn't snow. He testes his legs, they moved. He sighed of happiness, he was still alive. Nanook got up and he was surprised, he legs didn't give in. They were a little wobbly but it supported him weight. He looked around, there was a silver disk near him that had lettering on the side, human language. He couldn't read it but he could tell it was some sort of name. He sat down and looked around even more. There was some sort of transparent ice on the side of the room. When you looked through it, it showed images of the outside. He heard a creaking noise behind him, he looked behind him and there stood the female figure that he saw before everything went dark. "Hiya there Nanook, how are you?" she asked.

Task 2 - Bonding - Complete
Nanook sprinted across the dog yard. He had somewhere to be in such little time. He felt a tail under his paw but he didn’t care at the moment, where he was going was way more important. Nanook’s tail whipped back and forth has he ran. He accidently ran into Kobuck who was laying down next to her dog house. She got up and the chain that was connected to her collar clang. Kobuck glared at him for a moment before she laid back down. Nanook gave a quick apology before he took off running off again. He finally reached the house, he pawed the front door to let the girl he loved as his owner to know he was here. A few seconds later the front door open and stepped out the female. She had a harness in one hand and a ball in the other. She leaned down and slipped the harness down around his shoulders and around his waist. He gave a small yelp of happiness and turned around and ran down the steps. He turned around and waited for her to throw the ball. She raised her arm and threw the ball as hard as she could across the yard. It bounced once and landed behind the dog sled shed. Nanook picked it up and ran back and dropped the ball at the girl’s feet. He waged his tail and waited for her to throw the ball again. She threw the ball a few more times and gave him a break. She walked over to the dog sled and took the cover off the sled. She called Nanook over and chained him to the sled. She walked over to the dog yard and unchained a few more dogs. She chained them up to the sled, Kobuck ended up being chained next to him.

Task 4 - Training - Complete
The wind blew and snow shards blew across the dog yard. Nanook whined as some ice shards stung his eyes. Today was one of the coldest days of the winter. The Iditarod was creeping up on the team, only two weeks away. Nanook stood up, stretched his front leg then his back legs. She peeked around his dog house and looked at his neighboring dog house that contained Kobuck. Her head hung out of her dog house that was much smaller than Nanook’s. She looked over at Nanook and got out of her dog house. She gave a quick stretch and yawned. Kobuck gave a surprised yelp as a few shards flew into her eyes. She blinked a few times then sniffed the ground. Nanook sat watching her for a few minutes. Every time she would look over at Nanook he would always gerk his head and look somewhere else until he knew she wasn’t looking at him. Nanook perked his ears up a the sound of chains clanging, its was the girl that loved him ever so much. He barked and wagged his tail. He spun around in circles and yelped with happiness. She appeared and all the dogs began to bark, we all knew it was time to go training. Nanook was in the second to last row of dog houses so he knew it would take a bit before she would reach him. Nanook waited patiently, but Kobuck next to him wasn’t waiting patiently. She barked at the top of her lungs and ran back and forth trying to get off her chain. Nanook rolled his eyes, he rather waste his energy on the run. The girl finally reach his row and Nanook was the first one he unhooked. Nanook jumped up on her waist and began licking her face. She giggled and lead him to the sled, she hooked him up and went and grabbed Kobuck. She brang Kobuck over and hooked her in next to Nanook. Nanook glanced over at Kobuck who gave a slight glare at him, Nanook cocked his head motioning a question of what was that for. Kobuck looked away and began barking. Nanook stood there calm as he could be waiting for the girl to say the special word, “Mush”. The girl finally hooked up all of the selected 16 dogs and put on her parka. Nanook began antsy and started yanking forward on the sled. The sled wouldn’t budge so he pulled harder, though he knew the sled had a anchor that held it to the ground. Nanook pulled even harder this time, no movement. He then sat still, waiting for the special word. Then it was said, “Mush!” Nanook took off in a sprint with all the other dogs, though he was in the third row of the lineup he could still make the sled go faster. The dogs in front of him were rather slower than him and he kept bumping into them every now and then. Nanook then would get annoyed and sometimes do it on purpose to make them go faster. He looked around, it was a rather beautiful day today, there was no more ice wind and the sun shinned. “Whoa” said the girl. Nanook stopped along as the other dogs.

good afternoon everyone! I apologize for the delay on this adopt.

since the tasks had never been completed for this baby, as accordance with the rescue round up rules, they will be rehomed.

with baltic huskies being reopened, I have spoke to CS oekaki staff about these competitions and what to do with them! all unjudged dogs will be transferred over to new lines, and their competitions extended! this being said:

this dog is being temporarily revoked and placed on hold so that they can be transferred for free to the new lines. anyone who was entered in a competition for this dog will still be honored and have their forms automatically counted in the new competition, and will be welcome to edit+add to their forms if they wish!

for dogs that have competitions that will be impossible to judge by someone else other than the artist (such as a guess the genotype), these competitions will be converted into raffles so that everyone who entered will get a chance.
