Show Name: Swallow The Air
Barn Name: May
Gender: Mare
Personality: This mare is completely curious, anything moving will peak her interest and it isn't rare to see her trying to escape the paddock to explore. May, however is extremely competitive and lives for competitions, unable to turn down a challenge but isn't a sore loser if she happens to lose. Has a weakness for sweet treats like sugar cubes and has a good relationship with dogs.
Eye Color: Light purple
Height: 16 HH

Competition Story: It was a warm summer's day as May's owner made the large mare walk in large circle to calm her nerves before they were called to start the cross country course. It was only a small competition put on in her owner's home town but May couldn't help but be excited and pumped for the opportunity to stretch her legs. "And next will be Sarah and her mare Swallow the Air!" The crowd cheered and the mare's ears flattened on her head for a moment with nerves before she exhaled slowly, making her way to the start. Soon the starting sound echoed in the mare's ears and May pumped her legs forward, sending dust into the air behind her. Her heart thumped strongly in her chest as the pair made their way up the small, grassy rise and towards the first jump. It was a log jump, the thick beam slightly intimating but May concentrated on her strides and sailed over it easily. Cheering erupted on both sides of the trial and May's purple eyes sparkled with pride, digging deeper to increase her speed across the course. The wind rushed through her ears as they sailed over a drop fence, May's rider patting her on the neck as they made their way down the slope at a good pace. The mare's eyes opened wide when she saw the large body of water ahead of her. She hated these types of jumps as she couldn't see where her feet where being placed or what shape the ground was under the water. Her brown ears flattened on her skull but her rider gave her some encouragement. May clenched her jaw before jumping over the jump and landing heavily in the water. Water splashed against her legs and underside, May pushing herself to keep moving through the cool liquid. May short tail flickered after she cleared the jump out of the water, her eyes glued to the finish line at the end of the field. Her lungs burned with effort and a light sheen of sweat was evident on her coat as she closed the distance between the last jump and the finish line. There is no better feeling than crossing the finish line and having a chorus of cheers fill the air. May stood still, recovering her breathing to slow her thumping heart. They came second in the end and it only made May even more determined to make next time a first place performance.

Show Name: The Biggest Difference
Barn Name: Emma
Gender: Mare
Personality: Emma is a loving horse. She would like nothing more then to sit in a stall for an hour with just her rider (Anna) and snuggle. However, she also loves to compete!
Eye Color: Light purple
Height: 16 HH

Competition Story:

I felt the trailer stopping. We must be at the show grounds! She stepped in place, ready to get out of the trailer. I heard someone opening the trailer doors, and was greeted by Anna's smiling, energetic face. Anna untied me from the ring in trailer and led me out. I took in my surroundings. It was very crowded, and there were riders of every age there. Staying calm while Anna got sorted out, I noticed a huge black Frisian stallion who wasn't behaving. He was giving his rider a whole lot of trouble, rearing, bucking, starting and stopping. Anna led me to the stall that was assigned to us. She put me in and told me "Okay, girl. We have an hour and a half until our cross country course." I bobbed my head. We were only competing in one class today, but the class was supposed to be a really tricky one that required lots of stamina and strength. While Anna went to get checked in, I looked around the barn, seeing the Frisian stallion again. He was now in cross ties, trying to nip everyone who passed.

Anna came back about 20 minutes later. She had all of my tack along with her number. She was fully dressed, except for her cross country vest, which she would put on once we were getting ready to go. In about 25 minutes, I was groomed, tacked, and ready to go. We walked down the isle and by the stallion. He reared, and his rider flew back, grabbing whatever she could to stop herself from slamming into a door. She happened to grab my reins, and yanked my head hard in the process. I remained as calm as possible, not wanting to upset Anna. I could tell she was upset at the other rider, but she wasn't going to say anything. We reached a warm up arena, and Anna hopped on. We took a few small jumps and did a few exercises. She strapped on her vest and we headed over to the start of the course. She had come to walk it yesterday, so I wasn't too worried.

Before I knew it, we were up at the starting line, and the announcer blew the horn for us to go. We shot off, heading for the first jump, a tree trunk. We took it without a problem, along with the next six jumps that were an assortment of benches, hay bales, streams, a ditch, and 2 walls. At a sharp turn in the course, I felt a pressure come off of my right side. Then I felt Anna shifting around. I realized that my rein has snapped. It must have been from the stallion's rider. All of the sudden, we saw the last jump in the distance. It was huge! I could feel Anna scrambling to grab my mane. I slowed a bit, but the jump was getting closer. I felt Anna settle, and I waited for her command. She didn't ask me to slow down, so I surged forward. The jump was bigger then I realized, and I felt Anna's grip get tighter on my mane.

I reached the jump, and in the last few strides, I could hear Anna whisper: "We got this, Emma". I gained a little bit of extra speed and flew over the jump. Anna Urged me into into a gallop to cross the finish line. Anna hopped off my back and hugged me as hard as she could, and I nuzzled her back.

15 minutes later, we were handed the blue ribbon by one of the judges. She smiled at Anna and patted my neck. "That was one of the most courageous rides I've ever seen in my life. You have an amazing horse. I see you two going far. Anna smiled a huge smile, and I bumped her back. She pinned my ribbon onto my bridle, and in the distance, I could see the last jump of the course.

Show Name: Before Sundown
Barn Name: Ellie
Gender: Mare
Personality: Nurturing, affectionate, serious, fair, courteous, mature, obedient, trustworthy.
Eye Color: Light purple
Height: 16 HH
Competition Story: "Let the competition begin!" yelled a man. The man was old, pale face and white curly mustache that matched his neatly combed hair. The man was Mr. JameHan, a old competetor that won many shows, medals, awards, and now his dream had came true.. he now had his own ranch, and he also hosted his own competitions. He would have loved to compete, but he was far to old now. Jamehan had decided to call upon his friend, Lily to help him out. Searching under each couch cushion, checking each sock or boot, and breaking every piggy bank they had.. they finally had enough money to buy a Hyrulian Gypsy. He named the filly Ellie, her competition name was Before Sundown because when they bought the filly, they had until sun down because they only opened for that long and would be moving to another location that night. Ellie loved the old man, enjoying each little indentation or wrinkle on his face, the cigar/minty smell he always carried, and the curly mustache he had. Since JameHan was to old to ride, he found love in doing draft horse pulling. Each draft had a sled, weights were put on the sled, they than had to pull the sleds over the small 'hills' in the path, quiet difficult as the weight tended to pull them down. Today JameHan was attending the Snowbank Draft Competition, a snow blanketed and long path with small bumps, medium bumps, and big bumps. Churns, winds, and twists. A true challenge, but ol JameHan believed in Ellie.

Cold puffs of air erupted from her black nostrils, amethyst eyes sparkling as her harness and sled was attached, an assortment of gear were put on her, the sled slowly growing heavier. She warily glanced over to the other components, 3 other mares.. they equally showed their competitive spirit and flexed their muscles, preparing for what was to come. Many minutes passed, slight impatience clearing peeking through as he mares pawed at the rock hard cold snow, distress and tension filling the air as finally all the laughing and excited bidders hushed... finally the gun was shot and the horses began to tug their loads. Ellie gave a loud whinny as she took the lead, hooves raking the snow as her muscles rippled and flexed underneath her bay roan coat. The other mares lashed their tails, some bucking and trying to pull the heavy load along the snow. Minutes passed as they slowly got a grip of their load, dragging it nicely along the snow as they found this quiet easy. Sweat bubbles running down their neck as snow was shredded up and clung to their coat. The first bump came, quiet small but still a challenge especially with a load like this. Many strained neighs were heard as they huffed and puffed, legs shakily pawing up snow as one of the mares got ahead the exhausted Ellie. JameHan biting his nails as he knew Ellie made a mistake at wasting a good deal of precious energy by being first for the first 10 minutes of pulling, so when the bump came she was a bit unprepared. The whites of her eyes showed as she strained each muscle before finally pulling up. The easy part came as she went down the bump, picking up her speed but keeping it moderate as she kept at the heels of the second to last mare.

Drool, sweat, and snow mixed as the mares pulled along, exhausted a tad already as they worked hard for what they were bred for. Bidders cheered, while others groaned and screamed to pick up the pace at their chosen winner. Ellie was busy building energy for the next hill, taking a tight churn in which she nearly slipped and could have been out. When she got to the bump, she was prepared and climbed it, still struggling and she heaved and showed signs of being a bit worn out.. JameHan shouted at her "Only go if you can! Your own health and body matter more than just some tin metal or award, I love you and the last thing I need is to lose you to this competition." JameHan shouted, feeling a bit stupid as Ellie.. well was just a horse and probably didn't understand him.. Ellie did though, pulling up the second hill she repeated the process of building energy, when it came to the last one everyone was ina doozy, even her after building the energy to prepare herself for it. The sled seemed to get heavier, so heavy her legs shook and sweat drenched her coat. She panted and heaved, JameHan worried about her.. wondering if he should leave the competition with Ellie because it isn't worth putting that much strain on your equine for a few bucks and a dumb reward. What seemed like hours the mares finally pulled out of the bump, Ellie exhausted barely made it to the finish line.. But she still finished in 3rd.

"Oh my Ellie! You did a fantastic job! When we get back you're resting and I will get you the best food!" JameHan grinned ear to ear at his beautiful mare. "I love you Ellie.. I really do.." JameHan said, still feeling foolish for talking to a horse. Ellie nickered, nuzzling his chest.. because she heard him, and saw that he loved her...
