Competition Story: "Let the competition begin!" yelled a man. The man was old, pale face and white curly mustache that matched his neatly combed hair. The man was Mr. JameHan, a old competetor that won many shows, medals, awards, and now his dream had came true.. he now had his own ranch, and he also hosted his own competitions. He would have loved to compete, but he was far to old now. Jamehan had decided to call upon his friend, Lily to help him out. Searching under each couch cushion, checking each sock or boot, and breaking every piggy bank they had.. they finally had enough money to buy a Hyrulian Gypsy. He named the filly Ellie, her competition name was Before Sundown because when they bought the filly, they had until sun down because they only opened for that long and would be moving to another location that night. Ellie loved the old man, enjoying each little indentation or wrinkle on his face, the cigar/minty smell he always carried, and the curly mustache he had. Since JameHan was to old to ride, he found love in doing draft horse pulling. Each draft had a sled, weights were put on the sled, they than had to pull the sleds over the small 'hills' in the path, quiet difficult as the weight tended to pull them down. Today JameHan was attending the Snowbank Draft Competition, a snow blanketed and long path with small bumps, medium bumps, and big bumps. Churns, winds, and twists. A true challenge, but ol JameHan believed in Ellie.
Cold puffs of air erupted from her black nostrils, amethyst eyes sparkling as her harness and sled was attached, an assortment of gear were put on her, the sled slowly growing heavier. She warily glanced over to the other components, 3 other mares.. they equally showed their competitive spirit and flexed their muscles, preparing for what was to come. Many minutes passed, slight impatience clearing peeking through as he mares pawed at the rock hard cold snow, distress and tension filling the air as finally all the laughing and excited bidders hushed... finally the gun was shot and the horses began to tug their loads. Ellie gave a loud whinny as she took the lead, hooves raking the snow as her muscles rippled and flexed underneath her bay roan coat. The other mares lashed their tails, some bucking and trying to pull the heavy load along the snow. Minutes passed as they slowly got a grip of their load, dragging it nicely along the snow as they found this quiet easy. Sweat bubbles running down their neck as snow was shredded up and clung to their coat. The first bump came, quiet small but still a challenge especially with a load like this. Many strained neighs were heard as they huffed and puffed, legs shakily pawing up snow as one of the mares got ahead the exhausted Ellie. JameHan biting his nails as he knew Ellie made a mistake at wasting a good deal of precious energy by being first for the first 10 minutes of pulling, so when the bump came she was a bit unprepared. The whites of her eyes showed as she strained each muscle before finally pulling up. The easy part came as she went down the bump, picking up her speed but keeping it moderate as she kept at the heels of the second to last mare.
Drool, sweat, and snow mixed as the mares pulled along, exhausted a tad already as they worked hard for what they were bred for. Bidders cheered, while others groaned and screamed to pick up the pace at their chosen winner. Ellie was busy building energy for the next hill, taking a tight churn in which she nearly slipped and could have been out. When she got to the bump, she was prepared and climbed it, still struggling and she heaved and showed signs of being a bit worn out.. JameHan shouted at her "Only go if you can! Your own health and body matter more than just some tin metal or award, I love you and the last thing I need is to lose you to this competition." JameHan shouted, feeling a bit stupid as Ellie.. well was just a horse and probably didn't understand him.. Ellie did though, pulling up the second hill she repeated the process of building energy, when it came to the last one everyone was ina doozy, even her after building the energy to prepare herself for it. The sled seemed to get heavier, so heavy her legs shook and sweat drenched her coat. She panted and heaved, JameHan worried about her.. wondering if he should leave the competition with Ellie because it isn't worth putting that much strain on your equine for a few bucks and a dumb reward. What seemed like hours the mares finally pulled out of the bump, Ellie exhausted barely made it to the finish line.. But she still finished in 3rd.
"Oh my Ellie! You did a fantastic job! When we get back you're resting and I will get you the best food!" JameHan grinned ear to ear at his beautiful mare. "I love you Ellie.. I really do.." JameHan said, still feeling foolish for talking to a horse. Ellie nickered, nuzzling his chest.. because she heard him, and saw that he loved her...
