Chrysaora Basilisks #252 | Orphan Rescue Event

Postby noreptiles_ » Fri Jul 17, 2015 3:12 pm

General Info
Chrysaora Basilisk are the prevalent equine creatures that inhabit the world Lucent. They roam by the hundreds, using their unique hooves to score the uneven rock and track down their most vital source of nourishment; evil. The relationship between Chrysaora and humans is a complex one. Chrysaora vocalize like horses, but are also thought to have a syrinx much like birds do and have been recorded displaying a variety of sharp, avian sounds. Their eyes layer over with a dark, murky black until their normal eye color pierces through in a great ball of electric light, radiating toward their victim's open eyes and paralyzing them. The Glare is able to stop both human and creature, and after a few days, unique to other forms of basilisk, the paralyzed being transforms into a sea nettle.

First Encounter
I had been searching the adoptables for weeks, waiting for my heart to be stolen yet again by another Chrysaora. I saw tall, handsome stallions and stunningly beautiful mares, with forms flooding faster than rapid rivers. I saw applications of promising future-owners, filled with dedication and love. I had yet to find this for myself, when I lifted the newspaper at a shocking headline: Stolen Foals for Second Chance. My eyes did the work as I savoured every word, and finally finding the link to a thread to find my very own foal. I didn't hesitate to look at all the foals' profiles. Then I found her. There was no picture, just a description that read boisterous, playful filly looking for a new home. Energetic and brave, sticking her nose where it doesn't belong. I laughed aloud, and submitted my application.
The next few days were filled with anticipation. Did I get her? Will she come home with me? I couldn't stop pacing around. I needed this girl, I could tell she was perfect for me. When I went out to grab my mail, I saw it. The letter of acceptance or rejection that would decided the fate of the filly's new caretaker. My fingers tingled, my breath was short and sharp, nervous but excited. I almost feared opening the envelope, but couldn't contain my excitement. I tore it open and stared at the words. The world around me blurred, as all I saw was Your application has been accepted, filly 252 officially belongs to Hell Hound.
I couldn't wait. I rushed to the car and drove as fast as allowed to the event, and was lead to the stables by .Lone Wolf.
(I hope it's okay to involve you in the story, if not let me know and I'll remove this) I read the numbers as we passed each stall. 250, 251, 252. .Lone Wolf. took the halter and lead rope from the shelf, handed it to me, then shook my hand and wished me luck. With a 'thank-you', I peeked over the stable door.
My breath was taken away. She was beautiful. I saw her shiny coat glisten in the sunlight, her mane flowing, her eyes sparkling. Her name came to me in a heart beat. "Delta" I whispered in awe, lost in her purple-blue mane and tail. I unlatched the door and slowly eased in, letting her feel comfortable with my presence. Surprisingly, she did not huddle in the corner as some foals had. She bravely stood before me, inspecting the strange creature that I was. I gently applied her halter, which she protested against at first, but allowed it to be fitted to her with little resistance. I attached the lead rope and waited a moment as she snuffled the stable door, until she took a step forward. This told me she was eager to start her new life, as was I, and I led her to my trailer to take her to the ranch we both called home.

Gaining Trust
The truck bumped along the gravel road, tugging the trailer with Delta inside. I pulled into the ranch and parked my truck, and went around to the trailer. I opened the door and she stood looking at me. I slowly reached to the lead rope hanging from her halter. She stepped back with a snort and I backed off. The second attempt was better. I lead her out of the trailer and towards a small fenced pasture. We entered and I released her so that she could relax. I knew it would take some time for her to get used to me, but now she needed rest. She had a big day, as have I. I let her explore on her own before the sun sank low in the sky, and I led her to the stables. It was nice and cozy, with lots of bedding and some hay for her to enjoy. She settled down and I removed her halter, but she didn't let me put a blanket on her. I secured the gate and retreated to my own bed until the sun rose.
I geared up, ready for the new day. I snatched some apple slices from the kitchen counter and threw on a jacket, and made my way to the stable Delta had spent the night. She was grazing on the small amount of hay I had left her, but when I approached, she stopped and backed away. I was patient with her, moving slowly when she allowed me to. I grabbed her lead rope and brought her to a pen, where we could build a bond. She trotted around the perimeter, avoiding me, but I didn't feel discouraged. I would have to work to earn her trust.
I reached out with an apple slice in my palm, staying still as not to spook her. She eyed the slice, but continued to pace until she got enough courage to approach me. She slurped up the apple and snorted, stepping back to see if I'd do anything to her, but I just stood there, waiting for her to realize I wouldn't hurt her. I held out another slice, and this time she came closer quickly and chewed on it next to me, flicking her tail and keeping an eye on me. The third slice was gone from my hand quickly, and she started to relax.
Eventually she let me stroke her soft mane, and enjoyed my touch when I brushed her. It was time for the final test, gearing her up. I gathered a saddle and pad. She seemed to study it but wasn't spooked, even as I gently lay is on her. I wasn't going to ride her yet since she was too young, but it was good for her to get the feel of a saddle. I lead her around the pen, and she followed me easily. When I lead her to the pasture to graze, and I sat nearby engulfed in my book, she approached me a few times for companionship. I smiled and stroked her, she looked back at me with trusting eyes. She'd be my friend for many years.

First Feeding
I had given Delta a few apple slices and a small amount of hay, but the first time I would actually feed her would be this morning. I dressed up and headed to the barn, where I gathered some real food for her to have her first meal in her new home. I carried the load to her stable and she peeked over the gate, but backed up so I could open it and come in. She watched me as I set the bale of hay and filled her trough with fresh water. She sniffed the hay curiously, unsure at first. It had a bit of my scent on it, and I hoped that it wouldn't matter, now that she trusted me. She did reach out and grab a clump, then chewed happily. She was growing and was going to need to eat a lot. I left her to munch on her food while I tended to other chores like fixing up that one fallen part of the fence to the pasture and mucking out the stalls. I organized all the riding equipment and imagined us together, galloping through the trails. I smiled to myself and grabbed my gardening tools to harvest a single carrot for Delta. After I washed it I brought it to her and she looked up from her hay to investigate what I had. She didn't hesitate to take a bite, whinnying happily at the treat. She finished it off and I grabbed the brush to groom her, making her coat clean and sleek, almost shimmering in the sunlight. She snorted and I rubbed her snout, then closed the gate and headed back to the barn to finish my chores.

Meeting the Herd
Today I woke up more excited than I had ever been. Today Delta was going to meet the rest of my family. I was nervous, as this could either go really well, or really badly. I hoped for the first option.
Once again I dressed up, had some coffee and headed to the barn to gather some supplies. I collected a saddle, riding pad, halter, and everything else I needed for riding, as well as a lead rope. I walked along the stalls in the stable, passing the other Chrys that snorted a hello. I started with my first Chry, Dakota, who was mellow and gentle. I lead him to the pasture where he could graze, then returned for Oyster and Daxon. One by one I lead all members of the herd to the pasture, and while they grazed I reached Delta, who gave me a whinnying greeting and pushed her head into my hand, and I stroked her face. I put on her halter and lead rope and lead her to the pasture, where we stood and I studied how the others reacted. Oyster, the bold one, trotted up to the fence and bowed his head, sniffing her and snorting. Dakota quickly followed and Oyster moved off to the side. He assessed the foal and when he seemed comfortable enough, I brought her into the pasture. Then the entire herd came over, some overly excited and pushing to reach her, while others approached slowly with respect. Delta was a little unsure as what she should do, but standing there was good enough while the herd took a look at her. When they began to peel off to graze, she followed. I smiled. She was accepted, and I even saw Skelly, a young mare, acting like she were kin and convincing her to follow her to the best grazing spots. I felt proud that this young foal, who had been a victim to the underground market, had grown to love and trust in just a couple days. She would grow up to be a strong and important member of the herd. She has a family now.
I grabbed the riding gear I had brought from the barn and saddled up Dakota. He was my most experienced Chry and tended to have a big influence on the herd. I mounted and we trotted around the pasture, showing Delta how things work. She strayed away from the others for a moment to observe, watching me ride. She was curious and galloped alongside, before Skelly pulled her back and she grazed with the others. The wind flowed through Dakota's mane, he was an excellent Chry who knew all the ropes, as was Skelly who would teach her to be brave. She would be taught well by both her human and her herd. She never belonged in the underground trade. This is where she belonged. With her family.
