The parents ran a haunted house maze thingy, with the children helping out as little spooky things to jump out and scare those that came inside the house.
Some 'young hooligans' came in and started a fire.
Almost everyone escaped, but the house burned down.
Their mother died in the fire, and their father ran away, thinking that the children were dead. They were actually huddled together under some of the rubble.
Two days later, the twins hadn't moved from their position under the rubble.
Ishimaru comes along to investigate the scene (as he is an investigator of course), and finds the children.
They are too far away from a hospital in comparison to Ishi's home, so he takes them back to look after them.
He calls Poco to come over, and she literally screams when she sees the state that the children are in.
The two work hard to make sure that the children survive.
Eventually, the children are fixed up enough so they can talk and such.
One of the two stutters 'Me llamo Muertos. Este es Viva.'
Poco almost faints because they speak Spanish and she is part Spanish.
'Me llamo Poco. Como estas?'
pause
'Solo.'
And then Ishi takes in the children as his own, with Poco as a slight mother figure to the children, and Aethelwynne as a 'brother'.
