"I just want to help people.."
Midnight had hit, most of the trick or treating children and adults had gone inside to enjoy the treats they had already received on their many little adventures to several houses that night. The lights from the houses that lit up the street were now extinguished, the people of the streets finally settling in for the night after hours and hours of trick or treating. Aki walked down the streets with her bag in her jaws, her two friends following close behind. After years and years of trick or treating, Aki had learned that after everyone else was inside, that was the best time to go to all of the houses and gather the remaining treats, as most people would open the door, dump the treats in, and groggily whisper "Happy Halloween" before slamming their doors in frustration.
Aki looked around the streets until she saw one single house at the end of the street lit up by a few jack-o-lanterns lit and lined up along the side walk.
"Over there!" Aki whispered, being cautious of the people sleeping in the houses to their left and their right as she gestured directly ahead of them with a tilt of her head. Her friends nodded eagerly, quickly running ahead of Aki as the eagerness to snag more treats before the night ended built up inside of them. Aki sighed and broke into a slow jog after them. When they reached the wooden stairs of the porch, they walked up them, loud creaks sounding and echoing around them. The single porch light was flickering on and off right above a large bowl of candy. Her friends gasped, happy to have found such a large amount of candy.
"Score!" One of her friends whispered excitedly, looking at Aki before their smile turned into a frown. "Hey, why aren't you excited.." Aki sighed and pointed to the posted note on the bowl. Take one only, thanks!
"Oh.. well.." Then an idea struck Aki. She had always cared about other people, so she picked up the bowl and ran down the stairs, sprinting down the street. She remembered seeing a family of kokoros who had no home at all, and looked like they were starving to death.
"Hey! Wait for us, we want some candy too!" Her friends broke into quick sprints after Aki, rage filling them. Aki made a sharp turn around a corner, sprinting across the street towards a long bridge near a beach. She slowed to a walk, walking under the bridge. The family appeared to be sleeping, but Aki was so excited she prodded everyone until they woke up. her friends caught up and realized what she was doing, and they definitely approved of it. They knew Aki was caring, and they didn't want to bring out her rude side, especially in front of kokoros she connects so well with.
"I got a surprise for you." She put the bowl of candy in the middle of the family after they woke up. smiles crossed their lips as she spoke. "I know you guys were hungry, and you definitely deserve to be involved. Happy Halloween, enjoy your treats!"
