the barn decided to name this stallion after the joker when he first arrived at the stables, however simply naming him 'joker' seemed so unoriginal. his new caretakers decided on 'jack' instead. while in itself 'jack' is a fairly common name, the context in which they used it is rather unique. after some research, the caretakers found that the joker's given birth name was, in fact, 'jack', but no last name was discovered. while originally intending to name this stallion after whatever the joker's given surname was, after finding there was never a specific one, settled on 'jack' instead. they found it fit the stallion quite nicely, and he seems to respond to it. the name jack not taken in the joker sense typically means 'god is gracious'.

the caretakers didn't know what to expect when they took the rescue horse in. they expected fear, hostility, maybe even anger. the rescue horse -later to become known as jack- displayed none of these things. though the caretakers knew to give him his space, and work with him slowly to build up confidence, the stallion seemed...disinterested in their slow pace and lack of progress. throughout the time the caretaker's spent 'rehabilitating' the stallion that didn't seem to need rehab, they learned a lot about him. jack is quiet. he rarely makes a noise. when the grain is being given out in the morning and in the afternoon, he stands in the corner of his stall and stays quiet. he never nickers when he sees another horse he's turned out with, he never nickers when he sees one of his favorite people approaching him with an apple. it's almost as if he's above all that, as if a horse can be. at first it was a bit worrying, unnatural even, but after the vet determined that physically nothing seemed wrong with jack, they came to accept it for who he was. they also found he was extremely intelligent, catching onto new tasks at an incredibly fast rate. he didn't have a lot of patience for going slow, and would plow through new prospects easily. he's not curious, but he's not timid either. he won't readily approach something to examine it, though if encouraged he won't back off either. he enjoys his personal space, preferring the solitude and safety of his stall over the openness of the pasture he typically spends his days in. he's never taken well to pulling wok, and eventually they gave up trying to make him do the work they usually had the drafts do. the caretakers found he preferred trail riding, so now they take turns riding him on the winding, long trails through woods and over rivers and moors and up mountains even. jack seems to enjoy it thoroughly, though if you don't notice him well it's hard to notice adjustments in his attitude. usually he's fairly mild tempered, and has his ears relaxed, though when he's enjoying himself his ears tend to move a bit more- almost as if he's more engaged and paying attention rather than just mindlessly going with it. the one strong aversion he really does have it water. he will act up extremely when the caretakers are trying to bathe him. this usually involves bucking, rearing, spinning, biting, ears binning back, kicking, and the whole shebang. other than that, it's hard to believe he feels anything at all.
