Welcome to Crowntail Racers Adoption Agency! Here, you may browse our lovely selection of the infamous Crowntail, a rare
and treasured equine species native to the coasts of Thailand. Lucky for you, our agency specializes in obtaining and breeding
these beauties a little bit closer to home. These beasts range from 10 to 14 hands (3 - 4 ft), and average anywhere from 500
to 900 pounds. Despite their tranquil appearance, they are known as ferocious fighters with harshly controlled dictatorship
style packs. However, they can be easily tamed in captivity, and may even be ridden by their trainers.

CrownTail Special Needs Adoptions wrote:These Crowntails have had a tough start in life and are
looking for new owners to take care of them. We have a few to begin with and others are coming from our
shelter over the next few weeks. Each Crowntail will have something wrong with them, from torn fins and
scars to amputations. Some even have bandages to cover up injuries.

    Gender: Stallion

Are they blind? : No, he just has massive scarring around his eyes, and along that portion of his head.

If no, what colour is their eyes? : They are some of the warmest chocolate brown eyes you will ever see.

Tell me how you gained their trust :
Story Time! wrote: I sighed, my breath visible in the cold morning air. It was just turning to my favorite season, fall. The leaves were mix of vibrant oramges and ambers. But, that wasn't what I was focused on. Darien. This new Crowntail Racer that needed a permanent, and caring owner. I wanted to be that person so bad. The stallion seemed so sweet, but had been marred by bad experiences, both physically and probably mentally. I had come here several times before, just leaning against the fence and watching me. He knew I was there. He heard me whisteling to him softly. He didn't come though. Today was a new day, and I didn't plan on giving up. I walked up to the fence, giving a small whistle, and his ears perked up, and he knew it was me. He drew forward a bit, and then thought twice about it, and backed away again. I moved towards the gate, and slipped inside, staying close to the gate in case he tried anything. I whistled again, and he moved his head to my new location, and again he drew forward about four steps, and shied back two. I smiled, and then he seemed to lose interest, until I moved out, deciding on something different to do. I grabbed a chair, and then went back, and sat down in the chair. I stayed there for awhile, and would ocassionally whistle, letting him know I was still here. He would perk his ears, and draw forward a bit, but shy back about half the distance he moved forward. I was about to leave when the stallion slowly drew forward, extending his muzzle, perking his ears, searching for the sound of the familiar whistle. I offered it, and he altered his course, slowly, and carefully advancing towards me. I smiled, and offered the whistle again. He stopped about an armslength from me, and reached out. I whistled softly, and slowly lifted my hand. He sniffed it, moving his muzzle along it, before bounding off like a little colt, causing me to chuckle softly.
Over the next few days, I continued my efforts, and one day they paid off. He can up behind me, and rested his muzzle on my shoulder for a moment, before he slowly backed away, and then bounded off again. He knew I was here to stay. He knew I wouldn't hurt him like others had. This was how I gained the trust of Darien. He knew, unlike those of the past, I would be there for him whenever he needed me. He knew I wouldn't hurt him like those his past. He had someone that finally cared for him.

Show Name: Point of No Return
Barn Name: Kansas
Gender: Male
Are they blind? : Yes
If yes, how did they become blind? : Before being tamed, Kansas was put into the same pasture as another grown CrownTail and fought viciously. Kansas came out with a few bites and bruises, and too a hard kick to one of his eyes, causing blindness in it.
Tell me how you gained their trust : The girl stumbled, startled by the CrownTail's sudden movements. The CrownTail threw his head up in panic. "I know, you can't see... It must be scary." The girl said to the Crownie. She changed his feed and cleaned out his water, leaving as quickly as she came. She sat on a bucket outside of the Crownie's pin, next to the stereo that was lazily collecting dust in the barn. She snapped it on, with a few clicks and some static, an old rock radio station came on. The Crownie grunted in appreciation, glad for a break from the silence. The girl sat there, watching the Crownie with interest, peacefully singing along to the 80's songs.

Thunder rumbled the barn, causing startled sounds from all of the animals currently residing in their pins. The other Crownie's had be brought in a while ago, once you get dark clouds in Texas, you'd best be prepared for a storm. She saw movement from the pin she was sat in front of. She turned her attention from the sounds of the rare storm to the CrownTail who had ended up lying down in his pin, no doubt lonely, tired, and probably scared. She stood slowly, careful not to startle the somewhat peaceful CrownTail. The girl unlocked the pin and slid into the gated box. She spoke carefully and softly to the CrownTail things of comfort. The radio, somehow still getting a proper signal, played Point of No Return by Kansas. This was the girl's favorite song. She started to sing the old song to the Crownie who's head was now turned in her direction. His ears flicked up in alert, but he didn't move a muscle. The girl continued to sing, slowly sitting down on the opposite side of the pin.

Once she sat, the Crownie relaxed, sighing loudly. The song was half way through when the Crownie moved, jumping up quickly. The girl tensed, pulling her knees up into her chest in case the Crownie moved a little too much, she didn't want her legs to be stepped on. The Crownie moved a few feet towards her then laid down on the straw again, now only a few inches from where her legs were stretched out again. The girl resumed her singing with a small smile on her face, then interrupted herself, "what should we call you, boy?" The Crownie raised it's bandaged head. "You seem to like this song," the Crownie huffed and threw his head up in the air "how about we call you Kansas?" The CrownTail sighed and laid his large head over the girl's legs. She smiled largely, "Kansas it is then." She continued singing with her new found companion.

    Are they blind? :
      yes sadly
If yes, how did they become blind? :
Before being rescued, Strength was owned by a young man that had no idea how to care for a dog, much less a horse as difficult and free willed as Strength. Frustrated with how he could not get Strength to follow his will, the man took the suggestion of the town drunk and bought a leather bullwhip. Every time Strength refused to follow his commands, the man would break out the whip and use it. The first few times, Strength simply shied away from the man. That only made things worse. On a cold rainy day, the man attempted to saddle and ride Strength only to be bucked off. That was the final straw for the man. That day, Strength was beaten all over with the whip, but most noticeably on and around his eyes. Now, he is completely blind in both eyes and most likely will never see again.
Tell me how you gained their trust :
Gaining Strength's trust has to have been one of the hardest things I have ever done. The day that he arrived at my farm, eyes bandaged and halfway spooked, I knew it wasn't going to be as simple as I originally thought it would be. Not only was he a high spirited horse that had been abused, he was a horse that was constantly half spooked by his blindness.

As soon as he arrived, I carefully placed him in a large stall I had meticulously filled with a thick layer of pine shavings and covered every sharp edge and corner I could find with padded fabric. On the ceiling and on top of the stall walls, I had installed several misters that would run 24/7 as long as he was in the barn. For a good hour, I sat on the cement floor of the barn, talking up a constant stream of rambling words as he edged around his new stall. When I felt that he had calmed down enough, I scooted closer to the stall, eyes carefully locked onto the bay, watching for any sign that he was goingn to spook. Luckily enough, he didn't spook and I was able to get right up against the stall wall. Reaching through the gaps between the large ceded planks that made up the wall, I tapped the edge of the foot and a half deep pool (it was about 10 foot square and was separated from the main stall by a gate and that was currently empty) a few times to catch his attention. As soon as he flicked on ear towards me, I carefully flipped open the valve that would allow the pool to fill up and grabbed pulled on the rope that in turn opened the gate.

With a rushing hiss of water, the pool began to fill. Like I had expected, Strength startled at the sudden noise and fled to the other side of the stall. After a minute or two though, he relaxed and slowly made his way over to the water to investigate. Sniffing the trough a few times, he dipped his nose in the water before taking several long pulls of water and steeping into the pool. Satisfied, I scooted back a few feet and sat there for close to two hours, letting him simply get used to my presence. Around seven o'clock, I climbed to my feet and walked to the other side of the barn and into the feed room.

I measured out his grain and grabbed a bag of chopped up and frozen steak that I had prepared the day before. Approaching the stall slowly, I muttered random things and shook the feed, making sure the stallion knew what I was carrying. As soon as I was close enough, I reached through a gap in the stall and slowly poured first the grain then the meat into his metal feed trough. As I backed away, he slowly approached his feed, stoping about halfway there. Taking the hint, I left the barn, keeping the lights on and making sure the door was firmly shut.

For the next two week, my days followed the same pattern. Wake up at 6 am to feed Strength, whistled a two time whistle right before I feed poured the feed in, retreat to the far end of the barn to let him eat, spend an hour or two reading a random book aloud to him, leave around 9 to do my other chores before returning around 5 to follow the same pattern that's the morning had taken. By the end of the third week, I was able to stand within ten feet of his trough as he ate and he would turn his head and step towards his feeder when I whistled. After five weeks, I could crouch down on the other side of the stall wall as he ate and walk into his stall and clean it as long as I stayed five feet away from him and constantly made noise (before that I had to clean one side of the stall at a time, seperating him from me with the gate). After eight weeks, I could pet him through the gaps in the stall wall and he would come up to the fence every time I whistled for him. After ten weeks, I was able to feed him meat out of my hand, scratch and pet him all over from inside his pen, and he would come and lean up against me while I tried to shovel his pen out, that was when I finally let him out of the stall and into the pasture that I had caeefully leveled out and dug a small pond in. 12 weeks, or 3 months, after I got him, Strentgh finally trusted me enough to let me climb onto his back and just sit there. Having never been saddle broken and only just barely thought how to follow with a rope around his neck, I was afraid to break his trust and saddle him. So over the next few months, I slowly taught him how to let me ride him bareback. Now, 6 months after I got him, I can tell that Strength trusts me just as much as I trust him.
