Fumaça was shy as a young filly, constantly at her dam's side, not venturing out. Foals her age teased her, and came up with cruel names for her. Fuma’s dam reassured her foal that they would change with age, but Fuma couldn't withhold tears as the onslaughts continued. Her weakness fuelled their words.
As she aged, her skin got thicker, and she learned to ignore the unforgiving words of her peers. Her dam was right in saying they would grow out of it, but they grew into something worse. In her first year of living away from her dam, she learned that there was a stronger reality to the teasing she had endured--those same horses looked up to her. She grew in confidence and strength, and was no longer made fun of. The words that once defined her were gone like the smoke of a flame and the new ones grew like the fire. She was calm and capable in the areas that she was once withdrawn and broken.
At 3 years old, she met a handsome stallion named Gadraidh. He was respectful and tasteful, and she immediately had interest in him. Shortly after meeting him, she fell in love with him. As time went on, he encouraged her to further become the mare she had always wanted to be, guiding her and always showing appreciation for her.
