Nova sat on the shoreline, her eyes firmly focused on the sky. Night had always interested her, and the lights in the sky were more interesting. The members of her pod always said they were stars, and they'd heard the humans talk about them on lonely nights when they too rested under the stars. They told her it was why she had her name -- her mother had named her for the words the humans associated with the black sky. Nova tended to let her gaze wander upward at night, much like her mother had, and the humans do. And in the day, she'd peer into the lake, and the reflection of her coat would be enough to stare at.
