"This is the best
dessert for the early
fall when the sweet and
firm apples are just in season.
Use the best quality cinnamon
you can get and get it
from a spice merchant or even
a store where you can
get it bulk; it does make
a difference. Within ten
minutes of going in the
oven the scent will fill the
house and neighbors you
loaned things to years ago
will return them just to
invite themselves in and
wonder aloud if there is
any left (Note: there isn't).
Optional accompaniments
would be caramel sauce,
ice cream, and whipped
cream."

"He did what?!"
That was how September started for Ra, his more-or-less little sister Amora (though technically not related) pouring out troubles to him as soon as she unloaded from her trailer, six months on the show ring leaving her with more heartache and worries and gossip than he would have though possible.
They lay side by side together underneath a Birch tree, the smell of brown sugar and firewood from the humans' mingling with the crisp autumn smell, the winter-is-coming-but-not-yet smell that was just so delightfully refreshing despite the nip in the air.
Amora's dark face, made comical by her odd blaze, was deathly serious. "He kicked me, Ra. Right in the side! I thought Rose was going to kick him, right then and there." Rose being their owner, daughter of two of the human's on the farm and sibling of the three others. There was a theme with the names, he knew, but it wasn't explained to him.
He nodded along as she began to prattle about this particular stallion. From the way she told it he could tell when she was exaggerating, and when she was flat-out lying. He read between the lines as it were and saw she had had a crush, that a different mare had beaten her and she was upset, that she got carsick sometime between traveling to another competition, that she was worn out and tired.
So he nudged her forelock, blew out once, and heaved himself upwards mid-sentence. She followed, still talking, as they walked towards the humans' house. The smell of apple and sugar and oats was overwhelming, a combination of their most common treats mixed together, and he nickered, flicking an ear to show he was still listening as Amora began to describe an impossible jump and the end result.
The humans peeked out, disappeared, and didn't bring a treat. Amora paused her story to neigh as well, pawing at the ground, and then continued. They kept this up for maybe thirty minutes before a stumbling-into-the-strange-human-horseshoes Rose came out, the smaller human Poppy close behind, and one of the older male humans Aster just behind.
Amora finally ceased talking, for they all had that glorious smell clinging to them, and were nuzzled and followed until the treat was relinquished. Treat finished, their light blankets were put on, and then Amora continued. "So, then, at the last show, I saw that stallion again, except, and it's funny how these things are, it turned out he has the same sire as you! Good thing you aren't like that, right?"
"Good thing," He agreed, though he remembered the poor filly he had bullied at his first show and inwardly cringed.
Personality:
Ra has been frequently told he is the most relaxed
stallion they have ever met and is often confused
for a gelding. He has a protective personality and
is a good listener, to both good and bad. He is
excellent at reading horses and can understand
what they're trying to say while not taking things
at face value all of the time. He's been described
as a 'big brother sort' and considers most other
Tolters family, even if they are not related. This
has made some situations as a stallion rather
awkward, such as when a mare is interested in him
but all he can see is a little sister. He likes to eat
and Autumn and weather that is cool but not cold.
He loves being outside and enjoys being in the
company of others. He's a quick learner, though
when something stumps him it takes twice as long
as it would take any average horse. He doesn't like
shows at all, though he does them as though they
don't bother him at all. Crowds make him nervous,
and since he was poled by a previous owner he tends
to overjump. Ra used to be a bully, but grew out of
it by the time he was four and since is very stern
with horses who bully others, going out of his way
to make things difficult for them. When asked about
his history he jokes that there's not much to say and
then won't say anything about it, no matter how often
he is pestered.

So excited~ And I just can't hiiide it
'I Dream of a Better Tomorrow'
Lo! See there, a land distant
See there, a sunrise new
A new chapter of a story
A wide-eyed view!
The water's winking at me
And I am feeling grand!
Say good-bye to yesterday;
The new day takes me by hand.
Run, twist, and shout!
Until your voice is hoarse!
Tell the world your heart,
And stay upon your course.
A family that's all mine,
Dear ones who love me so,
Surrounded in this new land
Without a worry or woe.
See there! A smile!
It's been hiding for a while.
Breathe in air of the isle
You've made it another mile!
Dance, sing, celebrate!
You've made it to the better
and yesterday can't harm you
If you don't send the letter
Keep the skeletons buried
And stay with the ones you love
Because yesterday might decide
To become tomorrow
Q&A:
Q: Ra, is there a mare you've got your eye on?
Ra: It's just you and me in here, I hope you know. How can I watch any mare if I can't see her?
Q: ...Right then. It's September now! How does that make you feel?
Ra: Honestly, I am excited. Cool weather here I come!
Q: So where did you start out?
Ra: It's funny that you ask, haha, I was just an ordinary colt with an ordinary dam in an ordinary stable. Not much to say there.
Q: Others suspect differently. Would you elaborate?
Ra: ...
Ra: ...
Ra: Nope!
Q: But...
