Name: Daten-shi
Name meaning: Fallen Angel
Gender: Female
One extra: The tears dried from her face as the soft white paw stroked her muzzle. The being before her resembled a tiger, a big gold and white tiger, and silver fire circling about it. Its eyes were as blue as the sky, and as wise as an owl. The majestic tiger looked at the young cub, and in a firm but soft voice, it said:
“I am Saeunn, the oldest and wisest of all the celestial tiger’s. I have come today to speak with you”.
The cub looked curiously at the celestial being “What kind of deal?”
Saeunn closed her eyes. “Child, which is the name you bear?” The cub did not respond, for she didn’t have one.
Saeunn noticed this and said “Very well, then. I shall give it to you.” The cub looked up at her with shinning eyes. “You, from now on, shall be called Daten-shi, meaning fallen angel. Along with this name, I shall give you the power to remember.
With this power, you shall help all the lone and lost souls find their way back to the living. You will make them remember why they are here, and their purpose to live.”
The cub, recently named Daten-shi, nodded at Saeunn, admiration covering her eyes. She was smiling from ear to ear, happy to finally make her way back to the living. But, her smile didn’t last long, for her soft gaze turned cold.
“The price you must pay for the power will be eternal life. You will know solitude and coldness more than any human being. And only one person shall give you the happiness you seek. This person will have to come to love you before you love them back. It will be him who will break the solitude and coldness in your heart, and once again bring you back to the world of the living.”
The cub nodded firmly. She felt like if her life clock was not moving, for she had become immortal. The old tiger looked at her with soft eyes, and licked her muzzle, making her feel better with herself and her newly made fate.
Daten-shi felt courage; warmth and coldness enter her body. When the sensation stopped, she looked at Saeunn, who was glowing, fainter and fainter. “I have to leave soon, little one. But stay assured that I will be watching you, even if you don’t see me, feel me or smell me, I will always be there, watching you and protecting you….” And with that said, Saeunn disappeared as the first rays of the sun came out.
Daten-shi looked at the morning sun, the promise of a new day. And she said to the sun: “I am Daten-shi, wielder of the power to remember, and I promise, that in my eternal life, I will help every lost and lone soul find its way back home. I promise.” She meant what she said, for she knew Saeunn would always watch and look after her, always during her eternal life.
